The packaging:

The packaging of Rofis R3, as already seen previously with the Rofis R1 and R2, is well made, complete with indications about how the torch is made, on the main features and the equipment inside it.

The package opens like a book:

Package contents:

Once removed from the box, the battery of the R3 must be completely recharged before being used continuously. The supplied battery arrived with the Rofis R3 measured, in my case, 3.7v. Also remember to take out the protection tab under the negative pole of the battery.

The battery supplied with the Rofis R3 is a 3400mAh 18650 Li-ion battery.

At the negative of 18650 the Rofis "R" is seen against light.

Once the battery is inserted into the torch and the tail cap is screwed on, the power button lights up briefly to indicate the charging status. If it lights up green we have more than 40% of remaining charge, if it lights red less than 40% and finally if red flashing indicates low battery power.

The Rofis R3 is equipped for charging a propretary cable approximately 54 cm long. This has on one side an effective magnet to be connected to the charging base above the Rofis head, and on the other a standard USB connector. Charging can also be done by connecting the USB cable to other electronic equipment such as powerbank etc.

When the battery is being charged, the side button in translucent rubber lights up red. When the charge is 100% it lights up green. When the Rofis R3 is charging, the torch can be turned on, but only in Low mode. After charging (green led) I measured 4.19v for Rofis R3.

If we try to load the Rofis R3 with the battery inserted with the inverted poles, absent or if there is a malfunction, the button will flash red and green alternating to alert us of the problem.

Let's see a comparison of the Rofis R3 with other torches:

From left: Olight M2T. Rofis R3, Astrolux S1 and Battery Rofis Li-ion 18650

From left: Armytek Wizard Pro USB, Rofis R3, Nitecore HC30 and Battery Rofis Li-ion 18650

The three Rofis R series together.

----------

----------

The head of the Rofis R3 has an SMO reflector (smooth) with the XM-L2 LED in the middle. The R3 is available in a cool white version and in a neutral white version. My model is NW. The lens has an A.R. (anti-reflective) protection and a green GTD seal. The polished stainless steel bezel that protects and improves the appearance of the torch.

On the head of the Rofis R3 we find the magnetic charging base that allows, through its charging cable, the connection to a USB socket.

----------

As I was told by Rofis, the new R3 can also be loaded in fresh water without problems. I tried with the Rofis R2 and in fact the recharge occurred with the same times of normal charging and without problems. I quickly tested the water recharge even with the Rofis R3. Still no problem. The magnetic base that I thought was blackened, remained the same.

----------

The power button, is made of rubber material, the dimensions are fair and the click is decided. At the center of the button we have a translucent point with a notification led below it. The button not being raised can be difficult to find in the dark, especially with the use of gloves, fortunately the clip can help. This is done well, firmly to the torch body and flexible at the right point.

The clip in the Rofis R3, can be inserted only on one side, of the four available, because two sides are occupied by the power button and the recharging base and one must be left free for the rotation of the head. The one available for the clip is therefore the one with the word ROFIS above it.

The lettering on the Rofis R3 is of excellent quality, as well as the glossy black finish and the knurling on the head and body.

As mentioned above, the head of the Rofis R3 can be rotated and the particular structure of the torch allows to combine a non-acute angle as previously happened with the TR series.

----------

The only part that can be unscrewed in the Rofis R3 is the tailcap.
At the negative pole we find a rigid and removable plate spring with a powerful magnet underneath. A plated spring is also present in positive.

The tailcap of the Rofis R3 being flat in the tail, allows the torch to be put in a candle (tail standing). It is also equipped with a hole to insert the lanyard.

The threads on the body of the Rofis arrive, in my example, well lubricated. Being anodized they allow the physical lock-out of the torch.

----------

----------

THE HEADBAND:

The elastic headband is well made, worn and adjusted easily. The band supplied with the Rofis R3 is also equipped with the upper elastic support.

The Rofis R3, in the angular version, easily inserts itself into the orange silicone support even without unscrewing the tailcap. If inserted with the switch on the left side, you can keep the inserted clip without problems. In this case it is easy to turn the torch up to cover an angle greater than 90°.

Naturally the switch is well visible.

We see the band with torch and clip worn on a helmet.

Without clips Rofis recommends using the switch on the right side.

The Rofis R3, as we know, has a rotating head. It can also be used in an optimal position, inserted in the band, in position above the left ear.

Good distance covered by the radius of the Rofis R3.

This further possibility makes the Rofis R3 very interesting for use as headlight.

Beam, Runtime e Beamshot.

The beam of Rofis R3 does not present strange imperfections or particular artifacts. Discreet the color of the NW version (5000K). The distance of the beam from the feet is about 60 cm.

Runtime.

The test was carried out with the battery fully charged in TURBO and HIGH without forced ventilation in a closed environment. The battery used is the one supplied with the Rofis R3, ie a 18650 protected by 3400 mAh.

The Rofis R3 in TURBO has a sudden descent after only one minute. It goes from 7200 cd to 2934 cd after a minute and a half. This brightness is then held for a long time as seen from the graph. When the battery is almost empty, the flashlight warns you with a flashing red intermittently on the power button. The torch goes out after many hours.
In HIGH we have a practically constant brightness up to the first step down to minute 157.

Below the graph of the first 10 min. in TURBO:

CONCLUSIONS:

ROFIS with the "R" series has greatly improved the already discrete "convertibles" of the TR series. Many positive aspects that make these torches a "must" in its kind.
Personally in the Rofis R3 I would have liked more throw of what it demonstrates with the LED XM-L2.
Thank you for reading this review.

Great review thanks!

Nice review. Neat light. Couple questions.

If you double click to get to TURBO can you double click again to return to level before Turbo?

If you hold switch to change modes it goes L M H even if your in M or does it go to higher levels?

Thank you for doing this review.

Would love a discount code on these?

Thanks for that, an angled / multi angle light is something that is missing from my little collection and would be even more handy with the head strap too.
They always seem overly expensive to me though, when compared to a straight light?

Me too!

yes i want also one angle light…maby i take the older model, looks better.but the price is really too high…

Here’s the answers:
No, from the turbo with the double click remain in turbo.
If you are in M it go to H and after L M H.

Thank you for reading the review.

It may seem expensive, but consider that anyway you have included a headband and a good 18650 battery.

NW version 5000K? Where??

Five web stores selling this and all show only the CW version

It’s rather upsetting that both reviews on this review the NW version, but NO ONE is listing it for sale :rage:

Great review thanks! :+1:

You’re right, but I see that they are sending only R3 with NW LEDs for review.
I try to see if they can send me a cool white tint.

Hey man, thanks for the review. I definitely want this light.

What is your estimate of the high mode, how many lumens do you think it’s actually outputting, is it a little less than 560?

I just pulled out the R3 and tried the High level. The 560 lumens declared should all be there.

R.M.

In mine the charging circuit has dead after 1 months light usage. :rage:
All other functions are working properly.
I did not expect it form a Rofis light.

Its one of my fav light. Love its multi angle rotary head.

Finally it is solved.
Some mysterious problem occurred with the charging cable which increased the internal resistance somehow. I could measure voltage and current flow through it, but the flashlight detected charge error and indicated on the on the button led ( so the flashlight got the voltage from the cable too ).

Following some messages BG has escalated the problem to Rofis. The Rofis service guy told that by their opinion ( maybe an experience too ) the failure is not in the flashlight but in the cable. I received a free replacement cable, and the charging is perfect now.

Nice customer rervice, now R3 is one of my favourite flashlights again!

Really liking this R3
