Review: Skyray King (3xXM-L - 4x18650)

I meant the mouse over pics were opposite of the post above them, but now they're not. i checked like 3 times before i posted.. it must have been my browser

The KING is brighter. Period :D

My King NW is a bit brighter than my DRY NW, when using the cells I used, in the temperature I tested them etc.

The bottom line is that both of them are bright.

After that it's more about personal preferences:
- Side vs. Tail clicky? [Side]
- Gold vs. Black? [Hmm.. It's not really gold, something between gold & bronze, and it's different -> Gold]
- Body design? [King, for sure!]
- Electric vs. Mechanical switch? [Electric is fine]
- Do you need the med mode? [Well.. I can live without it]
- Does double-click to off bother you? [Less than going through all the modes in DRY to see that it was really left on Turbo]
- Do you need the additional runtime provided by fourth cell in King? [Not really, but it doesn't harm either]

So, right now, my choice would be the King. But DRY is not bad either, so I simply love having them both!

If I still don't have both, Sure I will get King.

But I had DRY and if King have medium mode, I will get them BOTH

I guess the switch cycling is really bothering me. I had a dream last night I owned the KING and I was testing the modes and then trying to turn it off. It kept on cycling through modes and I could never get it to turn off. haha

I really want to buy the king but the switch glitch and no medium mode is keeping me from buying..I actually like the colour and switch placement..

Richie, Has your King arrived yet? I am eager to hear your comparison to the T70 :)

Xed...mine hasn't arrived yet. I'm sure by the time it does, the forum will have moved on to the next big thing..LOL.

double post

Hi _The_

I wanted to ask a question regarding the photo comparing your DRY NW to the KING. I don't know if your DRY has the auto-stepdown feature, so I ask this question with all respect. Is it possible your DRY stepped down from turbo to high mode without you realizing it?

I only ask because my DRY has the step-down feature and I nearly didn't catch the fact it had stepped down just prior to me taking my beam shots yesterday. Naturally I switched it back to turbo and then took my beam shot. Again, I mean no insult or disrespect to you, I was curious if this was possible when you took your photo. Great photos by the way!

Hi Richie,

That would have been a good explanation, but no. My DRY doesn't have the stepdown feature, as you can see in the ceiling bounce graph. My DRY was brighter only during the first 1s or something, it sags a bit after that.

I'm glad you liked my photos. :)

Thank you _The_ for the clarification

That is a really nice looking light. I especially like that it has NO BATTERY CARRIER! Many other companies could follow suit but are too lazy to make the specialized curved battery container.

While looking at the pictures in DrJones' thread, I noticed that my NW King doesn't have the SkyRay King markings in the head. Good for me, since I think it looks way better without. :)

It's kind of funny that no one noticed it so far.

Maybe that's why I don't have the switch issues either.. ;)

Ps. I went for a walk yesterday and used the King for about 10 minutes continuously on high. Ambient temperature was about +3°C, so the King survived that runtime by being only mildly warm. I really like this light!

Interesting! what I did notice, is that your BOX doesn't say SkyRay and has a strange symbol, but didn't note the flashlight :)

Can anyone please measure the thickness and diameter of the lens please? I was wondering about the possibility of getting an UCL lens for this

Hi Xed...diameter is 54.87mm and thickness is 3.03mm.

Thanks Richie!

Similarly, the Balder SE-1 I received from CNQG had no markings (no branding) and there was even a used Ultrafire battery inside. I'm wondering if he sent a review sample.

I'm about to buy this from Tmart with free shipping. Any reason why I shouldn't (finger getting itchy!!!)
