Eastward YJ J09 - Came today !

Oooh. Not good. Well, rebate time from DealExtreme. It wasn't what you ordered and it has quality problems.

Thanks for the report. Sorry this didnt work out to be a good light. Its a handsome host but there have been many quality issues with this model. Its to expensive for me to be a budget host mod so i never got one.

Seems there are no lessons to be learned here .. sometimes the best lights are the first ones and then they turn to rubbish in later models . I'm not fully convinced peoples reviews are worth all that much since many things are purely subjective and quality control being widely varied ..some good some horrible .. it's a crap shoot .

I had really hoped that the pictures didn't nessesarily match the model as so many times it doesn't at DX.

I'm very sad and disappointed to hear this. I had very high hopes for low-low, no blinking flashlights.

Again, the same problem as purchasing the akoray 6 mode and receiving the new 1 mode, as recently ocurred to a guy at DX fourms. sad sad sad

This is par for the course at DX. But anyway we'll have a better idea of the error/failure rate with this light when I receive mine. Looks like it'll be at least another week still for me, though.

Got my J09 today, and its the 3-mode version (high-still high-#&%§$% strobe). Ordered 30 days ago, so shipping was quite fast (to Germany).
Its a XP-G emitter. Its bright (with an Eneloop). Buts its not the light I ordered!
My clicky seems ok, the pill is glued in (why must Eastward seal all lights? I ruined my tweezers…) On the box is a label with the correkt sku.47626, don’t know who made the mistake, DX or Eastward.
The 3-mode version is 19.60$ atm, wasn’t it like 18.80$ some weeks ago?

I think they glue it to shop bad seller from down grading the led

XP-G? Sure?

I thought the 4 dies are a sign for XP-G.

OMG! is XP-G! at least!. Pity the modes

It's a XPG for sure.

Now there is a new question:

XPG at last

or

XPG at the moment???

I dont understand that, sorry, English is not my natal language, maybe I wrote an error with "xpg at least"

No no, your quote was fine and perfectly understandable, newbie74 is just saying it in a different way, ie. "For the price, this light finally has a worthwhile emitter"

Pity DX screwed up and sent out the wrong light, however the 3-mode IS listed as an XP-G on the website.

Perhaps I was too subtle.

Fran82, what I meant was: We finally have an Eastward XPG. But will it continue shipping with an XPG emitter? Or will it revert to XPE as (I believe) some earlier ones? It is a new and different question...

If they have a 4 mode, no strobe, XPG it's a sure buy in my opinion. But I'm not buying it because I don't know what they will ship...

Ah! Ok, sorry

I bought one of the original 3-mode ones. It has an XP-E but is the brightest on an AA NiMH of anything I own. I don't have the junk switch problems but then I bought it, like many of my lights, around the time it was announced by DX. I do wonder about dropping in an R5 I happen to have lying around, but the R5's I have are not mounted on anything, they are just in the packaging they come in off a reel, so I'd have to get the XP-E out and somehow get the R5 mounted on the star - once I'd got past the glue. I've never done reflow soldering. Arenat's post here does give me some ideas though.

My Eastward YJ J09 arrived and it has 3 modes high-"not so high, but almost the same"-strobe and an xp-e emitter (I can see the dots). Brightness is lower than my P32, but I don't have old's switch problems. I like the tint and the beam quality, but almost 20 $ for a pseudo single mode is definitely too much in my books. In times like these, I feel the urge to sell all my budget lights and get one expensive light that does what I expect.

Okay, well I'm kind of glad I avoided this whole stupidity then. Probably still look in to the Mr Lite - just got a KC-05 and I'm fairly impressed thus far.

The problem is , that i have variable output every time I switch on the light , now this is not really noticeable to the naked eye , only to my light meter [ lightbox ]

And once the switch is shorted out , making the light into a twisty , my output goes to a very nice 250L ...

So less switch , I get on average almost 100 more lumens output ...

I also think this has something to do with the driver , as it seems very sensitive to resistance [ like my multimeter ] ...

I have a nice laundry list of issues ... and hopefully I will have the review posted today ...
