Sorry, you’re right, it’s a single front switch light on the SP32A. After awhile if you have enough lights they all run together…
The nitefox is dual switch for sure…
I definitely want an edc/ compact light. I’m just not bothered with a light that doesn’t fit in my pocket. I’m definitely leaning towards the sofirn.
I’m just curious what the difference is with the v2 version.
The V2 has lighted battery conditon monitor behind the side switch. It has selectable interface between 2 mode groups (ramping or standard serial clicks). It also has automatic temp regulation which means it auto-steps down from Turbo to prevent overheating.
I have original Sp32 and just received the GOLD v2 model. Love them both!
I'd go for the new Gold again, if I had to choose between the two.

I have both the SP32A and SP32A V2 and been meaning to wrtite something about the difference so the timing of question is fortuitous. I feel, the SP32A V2 is less of a successor to the SP32A and more of an alternative version.
There actually appear to be additional versions even amongst the SP32A’s that are not numbered.
- On my version the SP32A full ramping from the Lowest level to brightest takes about 3-seconds (which I didn’t find to be too fast.)
- Whereas the V2 takes 5-secs to ramp across the range. (From what I understand others have experienced different times in their copy.)
- The SP32A has Max (Turbo 1550 lumens or 5A draw) accessed via a double-click and the top of the normal ramping range is 1300 lumens.
- Whereas the V2 has it’s Max (1300 lumnes or 3A draw) as part of the main ramping range. On the V2 a Double-click during ramping still takes you Max but that level is the same 1300 lumen Max.
- The SP32A has a slight pause somewhere in the middle of it’s ramping range; I consider it a de facto Medium setting.
- Whereas the V2 ramps pretty much straight through with no noticeable pauses. Apparently some people were bothered by the slight pause, I use it as a mid-setting.
There were some tint differences between my two with the V2 having a slightly cooler tint, but still nice. Also the V2 driver side is no longer spring by-passed as delivered. Those are the main differences I recall.
I don’t think you can go wrong with either… but if I had to choose only one, I actually prefer the SP32A over the V2.
Ditto what Streamer indicated, I’d forgotten about the lighted switch.

There were 3 models if I remember, 32, 32A, 32A V2. I have the 32 A. It has both ramping and mode groups. The V2 has better ramping, indicator light, better step down but slightly less max lumens. Mine has an impressive beam and it will hold high quite long. V2 should also. Sofirn is a great choice. I have a lot with a SP33 on the way and the new C8F in the future.
You guys are not making it easier for me. 
I like the extra lumens, but better ramping sounds good as well.
Have both, the 32A has lower low for sure and higher max but also has that weird yellow dot in the center of the spot if you are white wall hunting.
V2 of my gold one has slightly nicer beam and just a hair warmer but both are great tints from the factory.
On the 32A with the bypass springs you probably could cook the LED if using a Samsung 30Q and abusing it, mine will pull over 7 amps like nothing if you feed it the right cell. Those purple low ohm cells from a while back or the LG HE2 makes it scream.
So the V2 probably was a smart choice for Sofirn warranty wise.
As far as the ramping differences pretty much what everyone has said. Rarely change to ramp mode as the presets work better for my applications.
Get the Gold one and don’t look back, it’s a very nice flashlight for little money.

Get the GOLD./…I’ll be posting some pics of it soon. I would recommend that Sofirn should have called it “Chameleon” instead of “Gold”. I tell you the Color is Great ! It seems to change in each surrounding you put it in A true Camo- Chameleon. LOL True. Pics to come as I learn my new file types on this Windows contraption.

if got the gold one as well. its very nice. im think about swapping leds with my sp31 v2. i like the single button more but the sp31 has a nicer hotspot with more throw.
Other than the ramping UI, The V1 version is pushed harder than than the V2 (reliability reasons is what I was told by Sofirn). 1500 lumen for the first version, 1300 for V2.
Between the two in side by side comparison, V1 gets hot faster and is slightly brighter. Obvious reasons…
I’ll just cover the beam pattern for the SP32A v1.0, SP32A v2.0 and the Convoy S2+ with XM-L2 and Convoy S2+ XPL-Hi
(note that Convoys are available in different color temperature “tints” and also power level)
(Sofirn’s LEDs have a range of 5350-5750K so there may be some slight variation between samples)
The shots are taken with the same camera setting (shutter speed: 1/10th second, ISO:800, aperture: f/2.8 and white balance: ‘daylight’)
Batteries used were fully charged (they should be at least 4.10v) and shots taken within the first several seconds of powering up the flashlight (before any thermal stepdown…)

Both SP32A v1 and v2.0 use SMO (smooth reflectors), however I find theI find the v2.0’s SMO reflector even smoother than v1’s, the effect seems to be that the yellowish corona is more visible on the v2.0 (both use the same XP-L2, but from my observation, the yellow corona from v2.0 is more visible than for v1…)
s2+ with xpl hi has a great hotspot for a tube light.
There are actually two versions of the 32A. Like with the C8F 21700, Sofirn updated the driver during production to improve the ramping speed, but those being sold now probably have the newer, faster driver.
As for the choice between the 32A and 32A v2.0, Sofirn’s goal was to make it a more usable and reliable light.
In addition to niceties like three color choices, the charge indicator, CR123A compatibility, and faster ramping, ATR was added, and the modes were tweaked.
Turbo lost a couple hundred lumens, but added a minute (50%) of run time. The High mode lost even more, but is actually usable for three hours, instead of three minutes.
Yes, the High mode on the older model also had its own stepdown timer (see the Turbo thread where people are arguing over bad automotive analogies), which effectively eliminated two of the five modes.
The v2.0 lost the electronic lockout, but that’s a small sacrifice compared to all the other updates. Not as much of a hot rod, but also less of a toy. For an EDC light, it has the right priorities in mind.
FWIW, the SP32a v2 also has a regulated buck driver and can run off two CR123s, if need be.
You will get all of them. I command it.
The ’32Av2 has some nice tek, DTP, active thermal stepdown, battery-status indicator, lots of good stuff.
The UT20 has the dual switch (lets you do momentary-on), and batstat, and usb charging.
The S2+ is hella moddable, takes any 20mm TIR lens, triples, shorties, you name it.
Don’t think we should even mention the TO46R, E2L, F1, or other tubelights…

You won’t go wrong with the Sofirn SP32A V2.0! I really like the ramping, and like Streamer said… the Gold color is great! I am loving mine…… 
I keep hearing the regulated lights are better. Could you please educate me on this a little. Do you actually get more run time vs a non regulated light or just a even output until battery is depleted? Seems like getting something for nothing.
