AA Fans: New C88 XML @ Intl O

I'm using 1.4A though - but I suppose if that means the Vf is even lower, then even more power is wasted?

Maybe this helps, you can see the mote the voltage is around the LED vf the more the efficiency is higher.

Or this Chinese test done by the EOSlamp manufacturer, for one of his drivers:

I get that part (but thanks for the data!)

but I'm not sure how Vf changes w/ drive current, ie if it is even worse to use 4AA at 1.4A then it is at 2.8A. I guess I could just check the cree datasheet :)

Shouldn't be much difference from 1.4A to 2.8A with 4AA. Should be better with 3AA that is for sure.

The vf is 3.1V at 1500mA according to Cree. However temperature will be very important.

thanks ;)

We've thoroughly derailed this thread.

somebody order this thing already!

OMG, I want one, but cant decide whether to go for this or wait for XB-D/XT-E lights with long runtime OR to wait for ZebraLight refresh.

CANT DECIDE :D!

Now, if this drops to 35, Im buying it!

BTW, whats the battery life on this using Eneloops?

BTW, this might seem like stupid question, but how this throws, will this out throw Sipik SK68 on AA?

Ok, another question - how much in parts would it cost to buy host, driver and the rest of the parts to make something as good as C88? Ok, the body probably wont be as well made and as good looking, but if its possible to do, how much, how good?
Sorry, Im really excited about this light, but 45$ ATM seem bit too high, theres no warranty and even tho one can probably repair anything in light this size(unlike smaller expensive lights) and do so for rather cheap money, I wouldnt mind to assemble one myself If I can do it high quality and for less than 30$ IM IN :D!

Group buy?

Zebralights are not cheaper, they are expensive, check their website: http://www.zebralight.com/

XB-D/XT-E would massively output 800-100 lumens.

This is an incredible bargain at $45 dollars. These were selling for $40 with the XRE and a cheap driver add in $10 for a quality XML emitter and $5 for the Nanjg driver and you are looking at close to $60 bucks.

runtime? I dunno, 20 minutes on high? Twice that or more w/ good 26650 instead? Maybe someone smarter will tell you more accurately.

as for building your own, check out the threads on saik sa-305. $15 host, $8.6 emitter, $5 driver, and you'll probably want a reflector. Figure in your time, the risk of screwing something up, and that it won't be nearly as nice of a host and $45 starts to sound pretty good.

Theory, 2800mAh current draw, 2500mAh available from 3 Eneloops in series, runtime 50min on High.

Sorry, to cause this thread to run off-topic. I know the 7135 drivers are linear and just burn off extra voltage. I meant 4AA with a driver which could make better use of the extra voltage for runtime (or possibly allow better use with alkalines).

Ok, close to one hour seems fine.

Only thing that it could have more modes, something like 5 modes with moonlight etc.

I do know that ZebraLights are pricier, but you get warranty, versatility, high efficiency and versatility(again), IMO there is no other single AA headlamp-flashlight combo that offers as much as ZL H51, BUT as already mentioned, 60$ is not little money for some, me included, tho if it has superb build quality and lasts forever, why not?

Group buy on C88 would be awesomo!

Group BUY!!!!! somebody call intl-outdoors and find out what they will give us off if we order 25 of em.

Amen...I bought the UF version a few weeks ago on Ebay, as I really wanted one...$47 + 14mm XM-L emitter + driver. I've never ever been accused of having good timing :)

nah, my fault

good point. seems to be big enough...

Unbelievable, just as I'm waiting for the third (THIRD!!) time for a properly sized XM-L board to arrive, they go out with this...

But I'm definitely in for a group buy at 30$-35$.

Too many lights make appearance, too little money :D

I bet I would like this form, size and look more than previous AA + XM-L TK41.

Groupbuy sounds scary, don´t do it, otherwise I may have to get one.

@CheapThrills: Buy it, don't like it, sell it to me. Any questions? ;)

Crap, I already spent $65 on lights today, and you guys start flashing pictures and praise for an AA light (my favorite). I need to take a BLF-vacation for a month and let my paypal account cool down to normal operating temperature.
