[♛ FreemeGB] Fireflies PL47 Gen II 4*XP-L/ Nichia/ SST20 Hi CRI 21700 Right Angle Flashlight - ENDED

:+1:

That is pretty impressive.

Has anyone tried the orange Rofis 21700 protected battery?
Also does anyone know the discharge Amps on that battery? I have a 219b coming and I only own the Rofis and Acebeam 21700s

Mate, forget about protected 21700 for this flashlight.

Please see post 1254.

You should be able to use protected 18650 with adapter. Fireflies advised to remove brass insert.

As mentioned though, the light may work rather wimpishly with a protection circuit, if at all. It seems to have been designed for max output and minimum size, therefore if a protection circuit is a requirement, you will need an 18650. In which case you have better options in an 18650 designed light. Especially given the limitation the circuit will likely put on the output of the pl47, i dont see a reason why one would even want the pl47 under those circumstances. It is bigger than many popular 18650 headlamps, in diameter—and a protected battery will likely diminish the output gains you would get with a hotrod. And using an 18650 is going to limit your runtime.

As to fitment, people have just started getting their lights and the reports are still coming in as to what people are finding will fit.

I have been using samsung 50e and 40t 21700 cells, with no fitment issues. But these are not protected cells.

There appears to be only 2 protected 21700 cells thus far. A rofis and an acebeam.

These unfortunately are way too big.

But 18650 protected could fit with adapter without brass plug, according to post 1254.

Hope this helps.

Please keep in mind we all just started receiving lights within the last week or so. People are only now learning what fits. There is only 1 cell listed with the pl47 on their website.

That battery model does not fit any other flashlights or chargers (99%).
Has anyone tried the orange Rofis 21700 protected battery? Also does anyone know the discharge Amps on that battery? I have a 219b coming and I only own the Rofis and Acebeam 21700s
My 219B black anno model came today.

First impressions:
-Unprotected flat-top 18650s work perfectly with the spacer, and strangely, they make contact without it too. Battery rattles in that case but now I know in some weird scenario I can rely on that. NCR18650B, NCR18650GA and 30W tested.
-Tint is amazing as expected. Top of the ramp matches the max brightness of my SC600 MK IV HI (1400) lumens and the turbo is a very noticeable step above that using a NCR18650B.
-NCR20700B is the only 20700/21700 cell I have right now and fits with no rattle, no excess tightening required for contact. Didn’t test turbo on it due to >10A continuous.
-Anduril is absolutely as intuitive as I imagined and a huge step above RampingOS and Narsil. Definitely going to flash it to my Q8 now. I NEED a 3000K or less light to use with the candle mode after trying it and the adjustable hz strobe is so fun! (I might have waved my hand around and looked at… “water” streams under the strobe)
-Milling is harsh but no edges Id be worried about cutting myself on. I HAVE cut myself on $400+ paintball guns so that seems acceptable for the price of this light. Certainly not as ergonomic as a Zebra but fits in my pocket just as well as a SC600.
-Anno is average. I’ve handled the absolute top of the line hardcoat on firearms and both the cheapest wal-mart trash and several hundred dollar custom screen print and multi-color splash anno jobs on $1000+ paintball guns. I would say this is definitely passable for the price. Good texture though, neither slick nor “chalky”.

  • Button is easy to press but the rubber cover seems to be inserted slightly wrong. One half sits lower than the other so its slanted basically. This makes it easier to press the button I think but just looks weird and TRIGGERS my OCD. I don’t want to screw with it and try to align since functionally its more than fine and there is no spare cover included.
-Clip is stiff, hard to clip onto anything but some elbow grease could fix that with bending it out a bit. Haven’t bothered to yet.
-Some knicks similar to the pictures here in the optics of mine. Zero noticeable effect on beam profile.

IMPORTANT POINT
The headband works perfectly for me once the clip is installed in the normal direction. Light is secure, I can adjust vertical angle and simply need to offset the light/holder a bit horizontally on my forehead since the clip angles the head forward more. Light is comfortable to wear in it with an 18650. IDK about bouncing while running if using either 18650 or 21700, haven’t tried it yet because… its really damn cold here.

Bottom line… for the price I paid I am very satisfied. Its the angled head, 21700 compatible, Anduril-flashed, 219B emitter D4 I always wanted. If the MCPCB was easily accessible I’d probably buy more for emitter/driver swaps. We’ll see how the modding goes and if there are some tricks to removing the bezel. No idea if its glued on mine.

It turns every bathroom trip into a disco adventure, no?

Or if you set the party strobe to a slow speed and walk around, it’s like being in a horror movie.

Candle mode is a little weird on the PL47 though, since it really needs a diffuser cone to work properly, and it’s not easy to fit one on the PL47. I think FF should make one available for the ROT66 though; it’d work well as a lantern.

Sort of a modern day Cyclops isn’t it, one big eye that’s subdivided into 4 eyes, an alien Cyclop?

Looking forward to getting mine, for several reasons… first factory installed Anduril, first quad 90 degree , first SST-20’s, first Fireflies light, and first dual layer backlit board….

Some pics too

- Champagne SST20 10W NW 4000K CRI95
Two Scratchs, a bit too warm for me color rendition it’s good but unnatural, good power, belt is free but useless, anduril is perfect, no problem with my 21700, without grease on O ring, magnet Ok, Overall with GB price i like it.

- Black XPL Hi V3 3A 5000K Neutral White
Missing “Hot”, fragile “Fireflies” marking, the most powerful, belt is free but useless, anduril is perfect, no problem with my 21700, without grease on O ring, magnet Ok, Overall with GB price i like it.

- Champagne Nichia 219B-V1 R9080 (with clip)
Best color rendition for me more natural than SST20, a bit more cold than my nichia Rot66, good power, belt is free but useless, anduril is perfect, no problem with my 21700, without grease on O ring, magnet Ok, Overall with GB price i like it.

Vince? Is that one in the center by any chance the SST-20 variant? (in the pic of three shining on the wall)

Also, do you find these useful as a headlamp?

I might have fallen prey to picture gazing before reading. lol Sorry.

I have the high CRI SST-20 due in probably tomorrow, have been wondering if it was going to be too warm for my taste. May gift it to my S-I-L for Christmas as it is looking like I probably won’t like the 20’s for my own use.

Salut Vincent,

Thanks for sharing information and photos.
Based on the images, it appears as if the SST20 is significantly throwier than the 219b. Would love to hear your comments about the beam between the two.

Thanks

I dont remember the actual numbers but yes SST-20 has significantly smaller die than 219B or C and will be throwier.

Yes :+1:

I’ve tested with my smartphone, high/turbo mode at 1m :

XPL Hi V3 3A 5000K : ~11 500 / ~29 000 lux
SST20 10W NW 4000K CRI95 : ~9 800 / ~21 000 lux
Nichia 219B-V1 R9080 : ~4 900 / ~9 000 lux

I’m curious if anyone in Canada has a working tracking number. I was giving a Deutche Post tracking number on Nov 18 so I assume they are consolidating shipments in Germany, but there is no tracking data. It’s registered mail so there will be nothing available on the Canadian end.

Nope, absolutely nothing.

Before you decide to give it away, try to use it outdoors a bit. If you just shine it on a white wall, it might look too warm if the light fixtures in your house are CW. However, at nighttime outdoors, I find my E21A 4000k and 219B 4500k resemble sunlight the most. Colors are much more saturated too. CW light looks more like light from a cloudy day.
