Short Review of Sofirn SP33 v2 with XHP50.2

Bummer that you got a bad battery. Do both ends look used or just the negative? It would be strange if it’s just the one end.

The negative end’s got the most visible scratches to it, but holding a light at an angle to the positive end also reveals some light scratches. If it was only the positive end, I probably wouldn’t think much of it - could’ve gotten shaken around inside the light during transport. But since the negative end was shipped with a paper disc over top, the fact that it looks scraped up makes the cell all the more suspect…

I checked my 2 more closely today….

  • Fit n’ finish on both is very good
  • Reflectors seem well done, both are what I would call Medium Orange Peel
  • I really like the size of this single 26650 light. The size is a big plus as is the relatively cheap price for this quality light.
  • Both have a greenish halo around the hot spot & that same greenish spot in the middle of the hot spot. Somewhat ugly if you get right down to it, especially indoors… outdoors is not so bad or as noticeable. To me anyway…
  • The switches on both of mine are somewhat finicky. Sometimes they will cycle through L > M > H and sometimes they won’t. It is almost as if the driver has to warm up a bit after sitting a while??? I’ll have to check it out some more.
One unit is much worse than the other. This may well require attention…. we shall see though. Edit: This was ‘operator error’. The ‘short clicks’ need to be fast & crisp.
  • The double click to Turbo must be extremely fast to work. This is not a complaint, just an observation.
  • One unit was ordered as a ‘26650 Kit’. While I have not tested the capacity of the battery yet, it seems to be a decent battery.
  • Both have Serial Numbers right under the warning word ‘HOT’ on the head.

That ‘be’ all for now….

I got my 2nd SP33 for unbelievable sale in my country Shoppe.TH Sofirn store (SP33 and SP10A for 20 $ :disappointed: ) so I sliced dome for some throw and warmer tint

Left Sliced dome vs Right stock one

!!

It much better to my eye and it lost only 7% of brightness from ceiling bounce app

Hello!

My Sofirn SP33 arrived on 24th Dec. Sofirn needed from 11.11. to 26.11. to give it to post. Not very good.

My first impression was: good light, well machined, fits very good in my hand.

My second impression: Disappointment. Really just disappointment.
Why? The light is far away from that what I was awaiting from a 2500Lumen light.

The beam is fine beside of the awful yellowish center and spill. The rest is coolwhite, at least more cool than my BLF A6 3d which is rated with 5000K (and is my favorite color atm). The yellowish center does look like a donut hole. Not what I expected.

But the really disappointment to me:
The light is too gloomy! When comparing to the BLF A6 (both on Turbo) I would call them same brightness on about 15-20m distance. When laying one beam on the other I can only distinguish them from the beam color.

This is really disappointing to me, where are the ~900Lm gone?

I really wanted a light which is significantly brighter than the BLF A6.

Is your light going to turbo? It does the low, med, high, then double click to turbo?

I measured Turbo at 2200 lumen. Way more than a single xpl can achieve.

I think the A6 is maybe 1400lm with a good high drain cell? So there is not a huge difference. The A6 will get weaker as the battery drains. Plus it will get hot really fast. The SP33 has the advantage of a more powerful led that is run at a lower output. It maintains turbo all the way down to 3.70 volt, plus runs much cooler.

BTW, the xhp50.2 and 70.2 all have that yellow corona. There’s not much you can do about it, although DB Custom says that slicing and dicing it can make it look better. I suppose you could put in a xhp50 to get a nicer tint, but it will likely have a donut hole hotspot (dark in the middle).

Also, all shipping from China this time of year is much slower due to their holidays.

/\…… What Jason said & what I posted in your other thread, quoted below.

Oh yeah…. you would be hard pressed to blame the 15 day delay between order & posting on Sofirn. Most likely this delay lies with AliExpress. They are most always slow to get things out & this super busy time of year only makes it worse.

I ordered my SP33 from Sofirn’s Aliexpress store Nov 14. Got a tracking update Dec 22 showing my order was processed through CHINA, GUANGZHOU.
6 weeks after ordering, my light is still in China.

Ouch…. looks like you lost the ’AliExpress Shipping Lottery’…. :person_facepalming: … :frowning::frowning:

My package was only 7 days from the time of order placement to when the package was actuall accepted by the shipping company. 26 days total from order to delivery for the package containing the SP33’s.

Maybe yours got lost in the mayhem of the China Shipping nightmare. Or maybe I just got lucky with mine. Because honestly, this is the fastest I have ever received anything from AliExpress.

I ordered Sofirn CO1’s on 21 November & they are supposed to be here 29 December according to the USPS, who has them now. That will be 38 days from time order was placed.

Good luck…. there is no figuring this China shipping stuff out??? :person_facepalming:

Yes, yes, it does all what it is claimed to do.

30Q.

Didn’t know that before.

I’m buying from China since more than 14 years, this was one of the slowest shipping I ever remembered.

Maybe, and I know that there is much to do on days like 11.11… But as I said: this was the slowest shipping I’ve ever noticed, first shipping note is from 26.11. while I’ve bought on 11.11… Much too slow.

I tend to agree with Ifowner on this one, it’s not an aliexpress issue, it’s a sofirn issue with how long they took to dispatch 11.11 sale items…

I purchased some liikota chargers literally in the same 11.11 transaction and received them before the SP33 shipping notice even came.

Personally I love the light now that I have it and the only complaint I can lodge [about the light itself] is the glue on the driver but I won’t be buying from sofirn in China again (their amazon store sure, if they stock anything there I want) but I don’t understand why people are defending them on slow dispatch times. Make the guy try to feel less bad, sure. But defend them? I don’t get the angle there…

There are at least 2 parts to the shipping. First is for the flashlight company to box up the order, then it goes through the mail. Since shipping out of China is so complicated, some companies use 3rd party shippers. The factory gives the package to them and then they figure out how to get it out of China. All I know is that it’s a very complicated process.

I’m not surprised it took 2 weeks for the company to box and ship the order. The 11.11 sales are huge. Then another month for the postage is also not surprising.

I ordered stuff on the last 11.11 sale and it took about 2 months. I’ve also ordered stuff away from the holidays and it took 2.5 to 3 months. The average is closer to 2 weeks, though.

I just learned to order and not think about it too much. It’s much less stressful that way.

You do realize Aliexpress is just an overall selling platform like eBay and not an actual store, right? So each store you buy from has their own stock of items, sales people, order boxers, etc… so it’s all random. Stores that sale very little on 11.11 might be able to ship quick. Stores that sell a ton of stuff might take longer to ship. How many employees does the store have? If an item is not in stock or sales out, they may have to wait a bit for more to come off the assembly line. As the customer, we really have no clue what is going on over there. The store might ship it out in just days, but the China post might not register the package until weeks later.

Unless you have a middle man like Neal over there that can see the packages go out, you don’t really know what is going on.

Maybe you can ask Sofirn why it seems they took 2 weeks to ship. Maybe they will answer?

I don’t pay much mind to it.

I’m not trying to start a fight or anything and I am really not defending anyone. I just think there is a lot involved with shipping from China that we as customers have little idea about.

And after reading what JasonWW wrote I’m thinking to place blame is probably short sided on our part. Whether it be me blaming AliExpress or someone else blaming a vendor.

In other words, what Jason said sums it up very nicely.

Crazy number of people living in Shenzhen, where most of our goods come from. Ridiculous mountains of packages pile up at the postal centers, especially this time of year. Glad it’s not ME having to wade through the building sized mounds of boxes and bubble packs…

It is a wonder they get here as quick as they do, or at all…. :person_facepalming:
This…… is crazy.
.

You mean to tell me that my $5 trinket isn’t hand-delivered on a velvet pillow to a waiting private jet to get to me?

I AM SHOCKED!!! SHOCKED I TELL YOU!!!

I think I spotted my package from Teacher's post in the image below, it's the blue one in the middle............ approx. eta, about July 2020

Yeah, I’m having issues with AliExpress right now. They’re saying orders completed that I haven’t received and tracking numbers that are worthless.
