[Available again! - BLF special edition light] new Sofirn AAA twisty high CRI 5mm LED

I ordered one 3200k C01 on November 25th and the light arrived to Vietnam on December 23rd. Well, at least it did arrive before Christmas. The clip on my C01 is defenitely a weak one, it can be bent easily so the only reason why i keep it on to stop the light from rolling all over the place. Such a shame because C01 is a great light and to my suprise, the fit & finish is better than i expected from a 7$ light ! Also wonder that can Sofirn send me a replacement clip for the C01,

Thanks for the info mk23. Sorry to hear you got weak clips. Mine probably will be too. :frowning:

Hopefully Sofirn will fix you up with replacements, good luck. :+1:

Warm white also ordered on Nov 23/24 arrived home last week and has been fun. No issues with the clips either so I guess it’s luck of the draw. A little disappointed though that it’s not practical to use outdoors as that’s my most used scenario.

Unfortunately I got weak ones.

In for two or three !

Number of modes? (please, only two modes, 10-100 %)
Support Li-ión? (please, yes yes yes  )

Thanks and congratulations, Sofirn :+1:

:frowning: . Sorry to hear that caplang. Hopefully Sofirn will send you some proper clips. Good luck…. :+1:

Well, its good you are learning more about what is a realistic expectation for a 10 lumen floody Yuji LED. Maybe be glad you did not pay $48 for one. Consider it an inexpensive education.

These little Yujis are plenty bright for inside a Tent, or inside a dark room.

For outdoor needs, my guess is you need a light that is brighter. Bear in mind it will use batteries faster.

Did you ever try a Fenix E01 outdoors… its not very good for that either. They cost a bit more, but they do have a tiny hotspot that reaches slightly further. fwiw, They dont come with pocket clips. And they dont come in High CRI. I do not recommend the Fenix E01.

The next AAA light I would recommend for you to try is a Lumintop Tool with N219b:

They do come with a reversible pocket clip, they do have a hotspot that throws farther. And they do have 3 modes of different brightness levels. They have a nice tail switch button too, its one of my favorite AAA lights, highly recommended.

If you think you need tailstanding, theres a version with flat tail too, comes from Massdrop
mine are copper, theres also brass and titanium options

Great to see this new concept light! The SST-20 should be a very well suited LED for a small light like this.

Several of us are hoping to see the blue and red anodized version of the standard C01 soon, too. Any update on those?

Got three C01 today and all clips are pretty stiff.

Hi Jon, the Fenix E01 is my current EDC and daily messing about light! I was expecting something similar in high CRI warm white but the floodiness of the Yuji is just impractical for outdoors, I can’t even look at certain things under the hood of a car due to the diffusion so unfortunately for me, even though I really wanted to love the C01, it’s going to be a shelf queen. Also, every time one loosens/tightens the E01, there is this feeling of amazing build quality that simply doesn’t come across in the C01. Not saying it’s badly made at all, though.

Cheers!

I mean the emitters used in these two lights are in a completely different league of output and profile/beam. This light was always intended as something closer to the Photon, as modding that and other keychain lights woith Yuji 5mm emitters is what inspired this AFAIK.

Sounds like the SST-20 version might be more up your alley but if you need more light, single AAA might not be the way to go…

a red sst20 would be nice :+1:

My first two arrived yesterday. Originally ordered on 23 Nov.

Both clips are as flexible as olympic gymnasts.

Sorry to hear that. :frowning:
I ordered 21 November & mine should be here today. According to the USPS they are “Out for Delivery”.
It will be interesting to see what I get in the ’Clip Lottery’.

My CO1’s arrived today, 36 days after order was placed.

Impressive, well built little light!!!
Fit n’ finish is excellent on the ones I received. :+1:

And indeed I was 100% on the “Clip Lottery”… 9 for 9!!! .

All 9 clips are total crap…… :person_facepalming:
They bend like they are made of lead….

Sofirn, any chance of C01 Pro with Osram 96 CRI LEDs?

My lights arrived yesterday in the UK.

The clips are trash, but this is only a minor annoyance as there was some debate in development as to whether a clip would even be included or might cost extra.

Everything else about the lights is as I expected when I placed the order. I love the light quality - the high CRI and the almost even field (slight hotspot on the 5600, barely noticeable on the 3200, you won’t notice either if you’re not pointing it at a white wall) make it very pleasant.

The output level is interesting - it’s perhaps a little brighter and floodier than I was expecting. I was considering gifting one to a relative who needs something for reading in church but it’s too bright for that - much more than a mini maglite or the ‘low’ on my other AAA lights. Of course we’ve discussed how it’s not enough to light up a dark forest track or for search and rescue at sea. Between those extremes, however - indoor use, something to keep in the car, or for outdoor tasks such as map reading or whatever - it’s just what I want. Enough light to do the job when needed, and no risk of retinal injury.

I was looking for low-cost lights to keep in bags, jacket pockets and the car and provide decent illumination at times when I would otherwise be using my phone or the tiny light on my keychain Swiss Army knife.

If reliability and durability are as intended (and I won’t be using them as hard as some of you have been already) then this project is a triumph. Congratulations to all involved (except the muppet who was in charge of QC on the clips).

Really like the quality of mine. Like the cylinder shape too.

That is just too funny!
youre feeling the O ring!

if you put the worn down Oring from your Amazing Built E01 on your Amazing Built C01, you will get the same Amazing Feeling!

here is a guy that thinks his Fenix is worn out (the O ring gets looser with age):
Back when the Fenix E01 came out as the keychain light equivalent of sliced bread, I bought a black one and it was so nice to look at I couldn’t bear to carry it on my keys. It hung around in my gear for a year before I finally got the nerve to put it on my keys during my freshman year of college back in 2009. Today, that poor light is now nearly pure silver with a mirror finish as the anodizing has worn off. At least every few months, the head comes loose and I end up with the head and battery in a pants pocket. The batteries never seem to last whenever I carry it, even when I use lithium cells. But it’s trying, so I kept it around even as they released an array of nicer options in the years since.

Today, I once again changed the dead battery…and low and behold it still has a nice beam. While I’m sick of it as a keychain light because the head keeps twisting to and fro, either draining the battery or losing it entirely, I’d like to give it an active retirement. Where would be a good, sensible place for a dead-simple AAA tube light that isn’t in my daily rotation of on-body gear? I’m debating leaving it clipped to the top loop of my backpacking tent where it can maybe see use if my headlamp ever goes dead, or possibly lashing it to something with a larnyard like those pens at the bank. I’d love for it to just break out of warranty so I can move on, but it looks like this little guy just has to be stubborn.
FWIW, my C01 has the same “feature”, the head came off in my pocket yesterday, and I did not even have to wait for the O ring to age. This proves that the C01 and E01 have the same Amazing Quality!.. LOL!!!.

another example of the Amazing Quality of the Fenix E01

And of course the Sofirn C01 has the same Amazing Quality:

No Orings were harmed in the making of those videos… :person_facepalming:

What a great post! I like your attitude, and agree with everything you said about the barely visible little hotspot :-). Slightly surprised the light is too bright for church, but, I have not tried, so will respect your experience.

My clips are very stiff, the first thing I did was remove them… I feel like a traitor, and slightly guilty for making Sofirn include them…

Enjoy your High CRI!
Merry New Year!

Jon, I’m not dissing the C01 at all, just that the threads and o-ring on my 7-year-old ECD’d E01 ‘feel’ better. I never said one is better than the other at all.
