Eastward YJ J09 - Came today !

No no, your quote was fine and perfectly understandable, newbie74 is just saying it in a different way, ie. "For the price, this light finally has a worthwhile emitter"

Pity DX screwed up and sent out the wrong light, however the 3-mode IS listed as an XP-G on the website.

Perhaps I was too subtle.

Fran82, what I meant was: We finally have an Eastward XPG. But will it continue shipping with an XPG emitter? Or will it revert to XPE as (I believe) some earlier ones? It is a new and different question...

If they have a 4 mode, no strobe, XPG it's a sure buy in my opinion. But I'm not buying it because I don't know what they will ship...

Ah! Ok, sorry

I bought one of the original 3-mode ones. It has an XP-E but is the brightest on an AA NiMH of anything I own. I don't have the junk switch problems but then I bought it, like many of my lights, around the time it was announced by DX. I do wonder about dropping in an R5 I happen to have lying around, but the R5's I have are not mounted on anything, they are just in the packaging they come in off a reel, so I'd have to get the XP-E out and somehow get the R5 mounted on the star - once I'd got past the glue. I've never done reflow soldering. Arenat's post here does give me some ideas though.

My Eastward YJ J09 arrived and it has 3 modes high-"not so high, but almost the same"-strobe and an xp-e emitter (I can see the dots). Brightness is lower than my P32, but I don't have old's switch problems. I like the tint and the beam quality, but almost 20 $ for a pseudo single mode is definitely too much in my books. In times like these, I feel the urge to sell all my budget lights and get one expensive light that does what I expect.

Okay, well I'm kind of glad I avoided this whole stupidity then. Probably still look in to the Mr Lite - just got a KC-05 and I'm fairly impressed thus far.

The problem is , that i have variable output every time I switch on the light , now this is not really noticeable to the naked eye , only to my light meter [ lightbox ]

And once the switch is shorted out , making the light into a twisty , my output goes to a very nice 250L ...

So less switch , I get on average almost 100 more lumens output ...

I also think this has something to do with the driver , as it seems very sensitive to resistance [ like my multimeter ] ...

I have a nice laundry list of issues ... and hopefully I will have the review posted today ...

Ey, the replacement switches are http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5588~r.43033281

250 lumens on an Eneloop is incredible. What a pity that DealExtreme and Eastward have been so unscrupulous with this whole deal. This is yet another nail in DealExtreme's coffin, in my opinion.

OK, mine just arrived.

Works great, really bright, XP-G emitter, and... High, High, and Strobe modes. Back to pulling the ropes of the DX ticket system....

5 pack , might have to order one [ pack ] , there might be one good clicky in the bunch , I hope ...

+ Ive seen far better ones on ebay , just need to order the right size .. Thanks fran82

I have them used for replace the one on the TF F23. Works perfect. No difference from the stock one, only a little longer (1mm)

Is it me or they cropped the pictures. :D

Does anyone have the original its worth a laugh.

That's ashame no one has got the 4 mode light. I am still waiting for mine, it should be here soon. Clicky issues can sometimes be cured with a shot of good quality plastic safe electronic contact cleaner. My F23 needed a shot of cleaner and now it's perfect! I hope current shipments will at the very least have the xp-g emitter.

My eastward arrived the other day and it has exactly what was described ..XPE-r3 4 mode

That's right >>>> 4 mode ...reminds me of the blf except it actually works( One of My Blf's is defective )..Twice as bright as the BLF and a beautiful smooth floody beam .It is exactly what I had hoped for the blf . the modes are stupid just like the blf .. low low nice mid at about 40% and a sweet high .pretty bright 160? ...Color is perfectly fine very close to the blf .. it's a very good tint .I would have expected more throw from a xpe .It acts more like an xpg .big hot spot and not a single ring ... it is exactly what you'd want from a small every day carry..I really really like it.

I was worried after hearing reports of people getting 3 mode strobes ...I'm really sick of nuking the neighbors with strobes just to switch modes at night . It's like having to set off a fire alarm just to change channels on your walkman . Isn't there anyone smart enough to design a driver that doesn't have strobe on it and has an interesting user interface ??

whee... 4 mode

Great observation. I wonder how you ended up with the 4-mode and everyone else got the regular version? So you're saying the two Lows are too close together?

Cuz i been going to church.....and god really really likes me

Yeah the modes are just like the BLF > Low > Low again Med and a nice High ... 2 lows ...it's ok ... you just wonder why it's there ...Maybe the answer is 5%.....35%......65%....100%

I think the idea was to get a really low Moonlight mode of less tha a lumen for up close light. Then a more usable Low of a few lumens.

Got mine today. As expected it is 3 mode blinky version Frown I will request RMA from DX and I suggest we all do, so they know how unexceptable this is!!

Mine is a true XP-G with great tint and is bright but the low isn't low enough and strobe is slow. If they insist on strobe at least make it have strobe effect and not just blink. The F23 stobe is the slowest I find acceptable. I have used it once to run off a few dogs lol.
