Anyone modified a Q8 or SP36 to accept a lanyard?

I got some of these and they work great. These came from AliExpress, but you can find them other places also. They have different styles too. I like these because the D-ring where the lanyard attaches swivels.

Banggood has these but they are most likely too long, I believe there have been some threads from the past with links and ideas regarding lanyards and pouches, the original thread for the Q8 ,I can’t seem to find ATM, while really long has a ton of ideas.

Tripod Screw

HERE is another style on Banggood that will work.

Try Amazon also. Do a search for tripod screws 1/4 . They have several different styles.

eBay has a bunch too. Do a search for tripod screws 1/4. HERE is an example of one of them. If you don’t want to use the ‘split ring’ you can remove it from the screw.

I mentioned it in another thread that you could tie a length of paracord round the head beneath the switch with a constrictor knot. They hold pretty tight and you could take the loose ends and add a toggle clamp to make it adjustable.

Check youtube for a tutorial.

I added one of these constrictor knots to my Zebralight headlamp so I could hang it around my neck and light up the area in front of me when it isn’t in the head band. It oughta work pretty well for your SP36. What a nice light it is!

I used the tripod screw to mount a lanyard on my Q8. Works good but you’ll probably have to grind down the threaded end of the screw a bit to make it sit flush. The threaded hole in the Q8 is very shallow.

Less’n a buk each, quite nice. That’s what I’m using on my Q8 when it’s not in its “holster”.

Nice thing about it is that it’s attached right about at its balance point.

That, or remove the rubber “washer” from the D-ring and stick in the appropriately sized washer to act as a spacer, then replace the rubber.

I’d rather not go a-grindin’ unless I absolutely have to.

I almost can’t imagine carrying a Q8 around with a lanyard. I picture my arm stretching an additional inch within a week.

If the D-ring is big enough, stick a camera-strap onto it.

There are only 4 threads in the Q8’s hole. If you put a stock screw in, the bald head bottoms out and you don’t even catch all 4 threads. If you grind the screw back, you have 4 full threads reaching to the bottom of the hole. That was my thinking anyway.

Yeah, for a more “permanent” solution I’d probably do that.

Thanks for all the suggestions, except for my headlamps this SP36 is my first nice hand held high lumen light.

I have not gotten used to hiking with something in my hand yet, always feel like I will drop it so this will help.

I am going to figure out a holster too, see what’s available on-line or maybe modify a neoprene belt clip holster.

I've become fond of wrapping lights in paracord And am fairly sure you could add either a lanyard or make one with paracord . My first BLF Q8 got wrapped so fast I never really got to notice the flat spots or how the knurling felt . Nice thing is you can't go wrong .. just undo it and start again .

This sounds interesting Boaz… :+1:
Could we get a couple of pictures please??

Yes, please post some pics.

You guys have me thinking more about paracord options. There are a couple recessed milled circumference rings on the SP 36 that might work with a loop of cord and then using a knot, (PBWilson) splice or a braid to create an anchor point or extend a lanyard.

All the paracord I have is 550 or 750 (4-5 mm) which won’t drop down into the slots. The groove on the head is about 2.5 mm wide and the less recessed groove near the base (my preference) is 1.7 mm. It looks like 325 and 275 cord are around 2 mm and could be used for the top groove and for the bottom I could use 95 cord (1.74 mm) or maybe microcord (1.18) might work but probably too thin.

Maybe I will put in an order to Paracord Planet of Sgt Knots for a few shorter lengths of all of them and see if they work.

I would really like to see the wrap Boaz did and I just might wrap the hole thing and tie a lanyard off of that.

Use the self sticks that contain ball joint . Take apart and drill hole into ball boint. Run key chain ring through. Thread the 1/4 threaded end into flashlight. Attach lanyard.

Those could be found at 99 cents store BUT will cost 1.99 though

picture please? No idea what that describes. Sounds useful.

He is talking about something similiar to this… except it is on the end of a cheap ‘selfie stick’.

Thank you I am on my way to the local Chinese store to see what I can find .
