I just got a couple â itâs the no-name driver, but has the 3 levels and hidden strobe.
One of them works fine; the other is intermittent, skips brightness levels, flickers up and down.
No wonder they were on sale.

Mine has sometimes disease too. Sometimes it works right sometimes it donât. You never know what you are getting with it. Itâs like playing the brightness lottery. You know it will light up, youâre just really not sure of the outcome. It has been relegated to a bathroom emergency light. Iâd give it away if I wouldnât feel so guilty about it.
got 3 last week. opened them up to do the pencil trick today. took 10 minutes for all 3 lights. Happy with the outcome. All lose memory after 3 seconds and return to firefly. before that with next mode memory as they came, they were basically unusable and a PITA. Now an instant favorite.
not sure if a 8$ light is acceptable if it has to be modded to work as it should⌠but now mine is good.
it is probably frustrating for a lot of non knowing people to get the brightness-lottery whenever they turn these on. I would never ever bought these lights if I had not read that I can hack them with a pencil to make them work like the original design.
I made a little hook out of paperclip, fished the spring out from the A01 battery tube, dabbed a little conductive lubricant on the wide end of it and pushed it back in place. That seems to have resolved the flickering problem. Probably if Iâd looked Iâd have found a sharp cut end on the spring that was making intermittent contact with the base of the battery tube.
Itâs the cheap little corner-cutting parts that screw up the product.
No, I sure didnât. It just really wasnât that important to me. I bought it mostly because the wife liked the color. She swiped up a BLF348 instead. So it doesnât really get used anyway.
did you âtry the pencil modâ:Astrolux A01 next mode memory removal - Album on Imgur?
I greatly appreciate the pointer, very helpful.
Thatâs a good price - where did you order them from?
Are they Nichia 219b (or c?) and are they âalways start on lowâ?
I regret not buying more from the first batch, Iâd sure like to get my hands on a few more.
As others have stated, they are next mode. Too bad, great light and perfect for my use otherwise⌠but the âNMMâ completely ruins it for me. I prefer M-L-H but can work with other similar interfaces as long as its no memory.
Just did the pencil fix on one of the two I just got. Perfect behavior now.
Iâd like a word with the subcontractor who provided the wrong resistor to the builder (or the purchasing agent who found a great price on âalmost close enoughâ parts).

Yay!
thats great to hear
And done the second one â harder as the wires were shorter, so I had to carefully push the pencil graphite into the tiny gap to hit the right spot. Nevertheless, itâs working properly.
I got 3 and 4 on order now. magic little good looking lights.
I just turn it on. Not the right beam?. Just click it till it is. Simple.
Have yet to have any intermittent power.
My Kids love them too.
The near perfect torch for walkabout work, Fit in pocket/purse.
and about the most well proportioned on the market.
Similar to the S-R1. They Just ââfeelâ right.
I been using one since march 2018 in my keychain, many scratches from drops and keys, but i never got flickers. BTW i didnât bother âmoddingâ the capacitor because eventually it gets discharged(maybe minutes later or even hours) because the next time i use it starts in moon!
Just ordered one of these, looks like an interesting little torch (especially for so little money!).
One question for those who already have one of these, do you have any thermal issues with running a 10440 in this guy? I love my BLF 348 but it just gets too hot too fast if you use a 10440 rather than an AAA.

Hmm, havenât tried it but generally I didnât think 5mm LEDs did well being over driven?

I have a copper one. Gets hot a bit but never even slightly uncomfortable.
BTW recently I noticed that it has a low voltage protection.
At 700 mV, even with LiIon.
Guess how I found outâŚ.
shame the copper version is sold out would like oneâŚ
I bought 2 of these first (Astrolux) Batch Grey.
MAGICâŚâŚ Just opened the one on my keys Soshine 10440.
Theyâve Been on these since new. NO probâs so far.
I got a coupla each, BLF 348 and Singfire They running on a mix of
10440. Ni-Cads and Duracell.
NONE give a problem. and I find minimal difference in output.
No matter which one I switch on.
Just ordered another 3 too. Yellow. Blue. and Red.
Different one on each keyring. So i know which keys I picking up hey.
House. Boat or car.
Does anyone know if you can get replacement glass for these? If so, what size and from where?
Thanks!
Dunno the size, but I got planar glass from FT and AX recently. Eg, needed 31mm, decided to chance 32mm, and it fit perfectly.
