Infinitely Variable Brightness 1 x AA Headlamp 1050Lumens

Great to hear that it’s constant current. How do they achieve this with a ramping UI?

Your assumption of my never having a headlamp has failed you. I have headlamps. Not this particular one but, I have a few. I don’t have a AA/14500 headlamp. Might use them more often if they didn’t feel like I actually strapped a 18650 light to my forehead. So my sentence of, “I don’t even need a headlamp” did in no way convey that I never had or currently have one.

Just ordered mine Today…it will be here Today…i will post an Unboxing Tonight.

Just got mine along with some Eneloops but I’m going to run a 14500 in it.
SST-20 95CRI looks similar to the ROT66 SST-66 95….

The 3 blinks at the top of the ramp and the 2 blinks at the bottom are kind of annoying. But maybe it won’t be as I really put it to use later.

The internet doesn’t express emotion very well….it was a joke  ….we ‘all’ say that we “don’t even need”… :innocent: (sorry for the confusion)

Every question deserves an answer “IMO”…

…looking forward to both of your thoughts. I like the ramping on my TH20 after getting used to it. Easier to explain to somebody borrowing it as well.

The first thing I did after unboxing my H40 today was weight it on my kitchen scale. The flashlight (sans battery) weighted 37 grams, and the headband weighted 45 grams - for a total of 85 grams.

The headband is very beefy and hold the flashlight well. I've only worn the assembly a couple of minutes, but the flashlight seems almost unnoticeable on my forehead - which is going to work well for me.

I’ve removed some bulk from the whole setup. I just removed the top headband strap. Doesn’t seem necessary for such a small light.

Yeah it seemed odd…glad you cant take it off.

The XPL HD is a nasty tint…just like the Thrunite…SMH, ON Turbo its not to bad…but high and below is nasty.

I agree but If I had to pick one ..

I'd let my eyes adjust to light rather than pick a light my brain has to try to adjust to ...but yeah ...both.

I like the look of it .Now I need to stop looking .

Sorry to hear that. Hope that the turbo output makes up for it. I must have lucked out on the Thrunite TH20 and chose a different LED (if there was a choice) as It isn’t bad. Anything else that you don’t like?

…any feelings on how it throws, tint, low mode, etc. (thanks).

Yeah it blows, might get the SST20 Version.

(Brainsick)“…Yeah it blows, might get the SST20 Version…”

I’m unsure that the SST20 version is any big deal to the budget community at large given little to no LED specific video that I can find describing that light in detail to date. There must be a good number of single AA higher CRI/throwy headlamps out there with infinitely adjustable current generation LEDs fitting protected batteries from a well known manufacturer for $30 delivered.

Heres my Crappy Unboxing.

I enjoyed your review, and subscribed to your channel. Thanks for the frank assessment about the XP-L HD tint.

I must say that the 4000K tint on the H40 with SST-20 LED is pretty good. It is warm and appealing but not quite as rosy as the Enogear SS AA/14500 IMO. However, the H40 does not have the same level of obvious PWM as the SS AA/14500. (My method of measuring PWM is rather primitive - I just wave the flashlight in front of my eyes. I noticed no PWM with the H40 using this method, but it is obvious with the SS AA/14500.) Edit. My PWM assessments were done using the lowest available flashlight modes.

The OP lens on the H40 offers a surprising amount of throw in Turbo mode. The beam has a tight spot with a large area of spill. In UltraLow and Low modes the beam with the H40 is more homogeneous without spill. So far I have only used a 14500 battery, but will eventually try a Ni-MH.

I very much appreciate the video along with the commentary from both of you. If the output is impressive when the XPL-HD is tested outdoors and Al’s assessment is agreeable to most then these seem to be 2 of the 3 lights to beat in a fairly broad and admittedly undefined category of higher output/throw AA/14500/NiMH protected cell headlamps/EDC torches at $30 (whew).
