need help picking right driver Bridgelux

hey everyone
im new to LED and need some professional help.
please see attached images,i have this LED by Bridgelux, model is bridgelux bxra-56c1000-ae4
i want to connect a battery and DIY on an old flashlight shell body, but i am not sure what drive to use and what voltage.
i tried to connect it directly to 12v and it did not light up, i tried 16v and it did nto lightup and i tried 24V battery and again no luck
do i need a module or a driver to get this guy going? and most likely a heat sink as well?
any help would be amazing, thanks alot


the glider, this COB LED from datasheet has nominal 27.3V at 350mA for 1150lm of light output (5600K).

Yes you will need a driver. What sort of power source do you plan to run this from? If you use a battery, you will need a constant current boost driver. Alternatively you can run this from mains with a dedicated constant current LED driver. we need a bit more details from you.

thank you so much for the reply,so im planning on running this on my mountain bike, using a lipo battery, i have 12v to 32v 3000mAh, i can get any voltage battery really with any Mah, long as i can run this light…
im not to familiar with drivers…

As said in the datasheet, I would limit the max current to 700mA with a good heatsink.

And limit the max voltage to 27,3V, or when the heatsink gets too hot.

for the layman like myself, can you guys point me to the driver, current booster or what i would use with a Lipo battery to get this thing going…
if i were to use a 12v battery, what voltage booster would i need, and is a driver the same as a booster?

Your choice of LED is not a common one in the flashlight hobby.

You can buy a convoy s2+,18650,charger and a 2fish block to hold the flashlight to you bike and probably be way a head in the end.

well i have so many 18650 batteries, and chargers, im just trying to see what i can do with this LED i have, sorta learn a thing or two while im at it,i have many other cree flashlights, high lumans, just trying to do a hands on with some parts i have here and learn something,
so this LED wont fit any drivers?

Sorry I didn’t know this was for a learning experience. I know there are some buck driver that go to 18 volts. I don’t know any that go higher. Hopefully someone else knows something and can get you on the right track.

If you do get something going be sure to post about it.

Edit- Maybe start a thread asking for info on a 28 volt driver?

I currently use this one for driving an LED array, and it is quite good for the purpose.

so this would work directly connecting to lipo battery? what voltage battery wold i use and schematics?

make sure you use protected cells or BMS battery pack for those DC-DC boost drivers as they would discharge your batteries in the red zone

yes i have digital volt meter plugs in the balance port spits out reading realtime and beeps if voltage drops below 3.6 per cell.
so my question would be using the booster above, what voltage battery would i need to use with this setup?

i guess i can use any voltage from 5V-48V as their site states

another quick question if i may, when it says 350mA, does this mean i would have to use a 350mAh battery?
im thinking of using a 12volt 3000mAh lip battery with the drive booster mentioned above, would this work?

350ma is the current that the led needs. Constant current to prevent thermal runaway.

3000mah refers to the capacity/stored energy in the battery

ok update
i got the driver, set everything up, the light only turns on when i press hard on the led die,what is the issue here lol
is this normal, am i missing something.

Your right, that was funny. What made you decide to press on the LED ?

i have no clue, just thought the leads were loose, so i pressed and it lit up…i have two of these LEDs and both did the same thing…so strange or maybe im missing something?
