1. They aren’t getting anywhere near 2400 lumens. Even when heavily overdriven, 2400 lumens is the best case scenario at turn on with a full very high drain cell, and without counting optical loss, and temperature increase of the LED.
2. Candela/throw numbers seems a bit high for a domed SST-40 light, even massively overdriven.
In Convoy L2 which has about 5mm smaller head:
SST-40 N4 BA 9.5A 2226 lumens 172400 cd 830,4 m
Maybe the cd reading can be real because of bigger head but the 2400 lumens not. Maybe 2100-2200. I used 18 AWG wires in that L2 and all springs bypassed.
In these new lights the numbers are always inflated. When I bought my MF02 they stated 3000 lumens and 600+kCd. In reality more like 2100lm and 430kCd. Still an awesome light for the price.
Ok…all this “overstating” talk has me curious. I have an original run U-torch UT02, stock. Would it be safe to assume that the FT-03 will outperform it significantly? That’s my only goal. I’ll be honest, the UT02 does really well out to about 200 yards…maybe 250…but past that, it’s just “visible”.
I’m personally not going to concern myself too much if the FT03 can outperform that by a decent margin…for the price.
