Fireflies E07 preview

I would not recommend the 30T for day to day use. I only use it for testing consistency to compare with other lights.

Generally I aim for about 5 lm as the muggle mode floor. Any lower than that, and people start asking “is this thing on?”. However, on my E07 it looks like the muggle floor is about 9 lumens. So yeah, it should probably be a bit lower.

Following in the footsteps of others, I’ve swapped emitters to LH351D 5000K W6. This is easily one of my favorites now and have to agree that moonlight looks delicious!

(This is a little blown out, but a good representation of the wall of light the LH315D | 30T combo produces)

Cool mod… where is the best place to get those LH351D 5000K W6?

I actually like the 70 CRI 5000K W6 better than the 80 CRI 5000K U6, just seems whiter to me and that’s what I like. AAAND, more powerful.

DigiKey has had them, not sure if they still do… pretty cheap as well. (they show some 720 in stock as of a few seconds ago)

Dale, you were the inspiration behind this swap, so thanks for showing me the light.

I got 35 of them from DigiKey recently.

I just got a gray one last month. The fins are squared off and you can catch your skin on them pretty easily. Meh whatever. I’d be more concerned with how the driver thermal steps down from turbo in under 10 seconds due to the lack of thermal paste that’s been discussed. Fins don’t do much good if it overheats at the mcpcb and driver that quickly don’tcha think. Now we’re talking major design and buld flaw on yet another Fireflies torch.

You bet jdh00, really rocks now in output too doesn’t it?

Getting em like that, in a quantity, brings the price down to below $2 each, can’t resist when I’m at their site and got 30 last time myself. Really liking these Samsung emitters, funny, that, as I was going to resist trying them at first. lol

I just a few minutes ago ordered a fairly pricey chunk of Tellurium Copper… in part to make a finned heat sink extension for my E07, seems to need it these days…

I’m having a lot of issues where I keep squeezing the o-ring out of the rear on mine, it gets pinch between tail cap and the body. Looking at the O-ring groove it doesn’t look like it’s machine very well it doesn’t look like a typical light would be cut. There’s also pretty bad galling in the groove.
I’ll get my real camera and take a pic later but in the mean time, Dale would you mind giving your professional opinion on yours?

Mine has a semi-slim clear o-ring that fits perfectly, no bind no pinch. I don’t remember if it came that way or if I changed it, to be honest, but since the head end also has a nicely fitted clear o-ring I’m going to have to assume this is the way it came. The groove does seem to be pretty minimal under the o-ring, hadn’t noticed it as I didn’t remove the o-ring before. Mine has the o-ring groove cut in a rounded profile that matches the o-ring, looks smooth and well cut though.

Does it look like this?

Dale & jdh00 - Your LH351D emitter swap looks a great idea. What is the output level of the LH351D vs the stock XPL-HI? I understand it that they are pretty close in output (unlike the SST-20 that seem way behind in lumens) - but don’t know what the result is in the real world. I like floody more than throwy so the swap is very tempting….

So…ordered mine from Nielsgadgets about 12 days ago, paid for the express shipping…
My Paypal account has been charged (indicating order processed by Neil’s website), but i haven’t even got a “shipped” notice yet.
Guess I’m not going to get it in “7-9 days”.
:frowning:

You hit the Chinese holiday bout perfect. Just got an Ali order shipped tonight - they are just getting back to work.

The Samsung LH351D in W6 power bin is more like the XP-L2 in output than it is the standard XP-L emitter. Without the undesirable qualities of the 2.

I am curious to learn how the driver would detect excess heat and step down in a situation where this same heat isn’t reaching the cooling fins…?

Hold the head, at the fins, and engage Turbo… how long til you can’t hold these “useless fins”?

TK said the heat travels via the power wires earlier in this thread. Shit gets hot, bezel and fins, and steps down in 10 seconds from polar vortex cold. Fire it up again you’re looking at 5 seconds. It’s wack

Most of the heat is transferred through contact between the thick copper MCPCB and emitter shelf (even if only the edge of the MCPCB is in contact). The negative lead can carry thermal energy to the driver but of course the driver itself is in contact with the head in proximity to the fins, so either way, the fins are getting to do their job.

Married? Have a Gold wedding band? Touch the band at the top with a piece of ice, even carefully using only a tiny contact point, amazing how quickly the inside of the band gets ice cold….

Well dang.
Looks like they came off vacation long enough to charge my PayPal last Sunday, though, lol.
Do people normally get a notice when shipped? I seem to remember when I bought my Emisar lights, I never got any shipped or tracking notice and it just showed up in my mailbox one day.
That was directly from Hank, though, and not Nielsgadgets.
