I just got some new material in .

For those interested that means I now have 8 different diffuser materials I'm offering .... and a few more in the works.

Sure, need details when you have them.

- materials available are :
#1- The original Dc-fix single sided adhesive . Selfbuilt on CPF measured it at only 3% loss..Great stuff *****
#2- A single sided. non adhesive twice as thick as dc fix ****
#3- Thickest ..double sided ,thicker than a playing card can be used instead of a lens.I’ve seen it actually knock out green in some (some) beams..*** (very limited amounts left )
#4- Fairly rigid. double sided ,non-adhesive,about the thickness of a playing card, can be used to make removable lens cap type diffusers****
#5- a non adhesive thin material that flattens out the beam . can be positioned horizontally or vertically . Can be used as a bike light to spread out the beam left and right .. cutting off top and bottom of the beam that may blind oncoming traffic.***
#6- a non adhesive double sided pattern that is about twice as thick as Dc fix .****
#7 - Non adhesive double sided very fine frosting similar to #2 but more flexible .works great 4 stars****
NEW -> #4A ,4B,4C,4D,4E all new materials all non adhesive thickness of a playing card .****
Diffuser film rated 1-5 stars *****
I respond to PMs' with what current film I have available and the list will always change a bit.

Will you be updating your first post with these options? I think otherwise it’ll be “lost in the shuffle.” Also, what are the sheet sizes and costs of these other options?

I’m sold.

Boaz was nice enough to send me a “sampler” of various types of film, some sticky and some not.

All the LuxPro lights I got have G3s in there, which results in piss-yellow coronas around the hotspot. Really annoying.

Wellp, I tried a piece of #2 (nonsticky), which is pretty heavily frosted but not too “grainy”, which is about perfect for the small reflector on the 2×AA LP that I got. Popped the glass, trimmed the piece using plain ol’ scissors using the glass as a template, “rounded” it a bit more once the rough cutt (haha) was done, and popped it between the front glass and reflector.

Nice!

Killed the throw and made it nice and floody, which to me is way more useful in a small light like this. In fact, the more I’m playing with it, the more I like it!

And no more piss-yellow corona turning my stomach anymore, just a nice pretty well-balanced white, even with the come-with emitter.

Just got some classic d-c-fix sent out from boaz, plus a sampler he threw in. Quick turnaround and great service. Looking forward to putting it on the Sofirn Q8. I saw a video recently which showed the Q8's beam looking great with diffusion film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mi3hLBouZeY. Looking forward to trying it on a few lights.

Actually, I kinda like the tint/beam of the BLF Q8 as-is, as it does have some decent throw but is still somewhat floody. Mine has nothing like the piss-yellow corona (henceforth “PYC”) as you see in the video, though.

Now, the Sofirn Q8 and Airpro DC7, which are both more CW and throwier, would both benefit from the ’Fix to smooth out the beam. If I want a thrower, I’d trot out my L2 or even one of my C8s.

Finally did my 3rd/last LuxPro, and finally got out from G3 Hell. Nice buttery smooth beam vs PYC.

The BLF Q8 is a great light and the beam shape generally doesn't need fixed ....unless you want to use it as a Lantern .In that case diffuser film makes the light a very nice long lasting ,super tailstanding beautiful lantern without the normal obnoxious glare that blinds you . I think the beam with diffuser film is much nicer too as it blends the colors and gets rid of the tint shifting thru out the beam.

I've been talking about starting a thread on how to make simple pop on /pop off flat diffusers like filters on a camera lens .It makes lights like the Q8 much more versatile.

Pm’d & paid, thank you

Boaz sent me a couple of sheets of dc-fix and a few samples of other materials a few weeks ago, and I finally had a chance to mess around with them. I am trying to decide between a couple flavors of Zebralight AA headlamp: H53w (neutral white), H53c (high CRI), and H53fc (floody, high CRI), so I had the opportunity to compare a headlamp with a frosted lens with the same lamp with clear lens + d-c fix. The frosted/floody version has a little bit of a hotspot. The clear lens + dc fix has a more pronounced hotspot, but it’s definitely an improvement over the clear lens. If I hadn’t had the floody version to compare, I would have been pretty satisfied with the clear lens + dc fix. I had good results with the neutral lamp + dc fix too. —The difference between frosted and clear + dc fix was most noticeable when using the headlamp as a reading light, the frosted hotspot is easy to ignore, the dc fix one is more conspicuous. For that reason I will probably go with the floody version.

Of the samples Boaz included, I liked the 4G, rigid, double-sided, non-adhesive a lot. I just held it in front of the headlamp—didn’t trim it down to fit the glass—and I liked the results, esp. on the neutral version. If I had access to a 3D printer (and some know-how) I would try it out in something like this .

#2, #2A or # 7

and the thicker #4's have more diffusion

#2 's and #7 is a tighter frosting like the frosted lens on the zebralight .

Subbed so I remember to PM and get some. This stuff looks amazing.

Hey, this may sound like a silly question, but I’m a bit confused by the way “single sided” and “double sided” are used in the context of this list… because they’re mentioned independent of adhesive. Since it’s a sheet, there are “2 sides”… but adhesive can be one side, both sides, or no sides. Yet:

“A single sided. non adhesive”
“Non adhesive double sided”

Can you clarify? Thanks!

Anybody tried dcfix on a xpl or sst20 FW3A to make it more floody or have less rainbow or artifacts in the beam?
