WTB: Jetbeam RRT01 – Any place to buy it?! + [RRT01 2019 discussion]

Just got mine today. Boy does it suck. I don’t think mine is working properly. From the hard off detent, you get about 60% of the ring travel with no light, then when it does come out it flickers horribly. I do not remember the original RRT01 being like this. I take mine has a problem? Also sorry about portrait mode… this video was quick and dirty.

Wow, that needs to be returned. My old RRT-01 has a solid “off ”detent, then just a tiny bit of travel before the almost imperceptible low output begins. Very smooth.
BTW, I’ve really been enjoying your YT reviews.

… what do you want for $80

Ok that’s what I thought. I sent HK Equipment on eBay a message with a link to the video. Let’s see what they have to say. Thanks man! I hope I get around to reviewing this one!

I’m a simple bro… a working light. Also I paid $70

Hum, those detents are really “marked” while rotating, aren’t they? Nothing like the old model that goes smoothly :zipper_mouth_face:

I hope the vendor makes it right for you. It is such a super simple operation. No double clicks, long clicks, etc. to memorize. I don’t think I want to go back to a ” morse code” multi-level light. Looking forward to your thoughts on a properly operating RRT-01.

Reminds me of my Sunwayman V10R after I accidentally put in the battery the wrong way once. Even though that lasted for just a second before I noticed, it never worked right again.

Result: For the first 60–70 or so of the ring’s travel the light would be in moonlight mode, starting very low and gradually getting brighter. Then over a tiny distance, maybe 1-2mm of turn the light would rapidly ramp from around 1% output to 100%. The transition was so quick that it looked like it simply jumped from moon to max, but if you took a lot of care to turn the ring extremely slowly at the transition point you could see that it actually did ramp up and wasn’t instant.

Yeah, mine doesn’t do any of that nonsense. It should definitely go back for a replacement.

Mine starts so low you can’t see it till you get right up on the lens, and it just gradually increases to max output, which you don’t have to go into the max detent to achieve.

Mine too, definitely send it back. Something is not right with the driver.

Long time off of BLF for me,I bought the new rrt-01 and I’m looking for 18350 recommendations for this light. I hope I didn’t make a mistake buying this light, I’m a sucker for infinitely variable flashlights.

Take a look at this thread

It mentions the currently available best 18350s !

Thanks MascaratumB, good read on the 18350’s . I believe because of physical reverse polarity protection, RTT-01 needs button tops . I know sometimes certain cells won’t fit in these smaller lights and I wondered if anyone had encountered fitment issues.

you are correct, however, this one works in my RRT-01

Im very happy with it
bear in mind it is UNprotected, so you will need to be responsible about checking battery voltage.

more info here

and more info in these posts about voltages, lumen levels, and Unprotected 18350 IMR cells in RRT-01:
I just started using an unprotected 1200mAh IMR

I have correlated some voltages to lumen levels
a CR123 cell below 2.9v, cannot achieve 100 lumens maximum
a CR123 cell, below 3.1v cannot achieve 200 lumens maximum
and the IMR, above 3.9v, can achieve over 400 lumens maximum

visual data

note that for the IMR, I had to switch the scale on the light meter by 10x (yellow arrows), so the 43.7 corresponds to 437 lumens. In all cases, the rotary dial is at Maximum.

This is with an N219b 4500k 9080 LED mod in my RRT-01. My light meter is calibrated to my 200 lumen HDS.

Conclusion, when my RRT-01 w IMR battery drops to 25% of initial brightness, it is not yet overdischarged, and still safe to recharge.

i have been using the unprotected Aspire/Vapcell 18350 cells and have been really happy with the performance of these cells. After any use, I charge them and test voltages. As a very simple rule of thumb I treat voltage readings as follows for li-on.

Resting voltages and capacity for li-ion cells:

4.2V – 100%
4.1V – 87%
4.0V – 75%
3.9V – 55%
3.8V – 30%
3.5V – 0%

I haven’t had any issues with battery fitment as of yet. Purple Efest, Red Efest, and AW are the ones I have that fit fine. I had to solder blob the flat tops but other than that I haven’t had any issues. They are all unprotected. I don’t check voltage at all really. If it gets heavy use during a day I will recharge the cell, or once every few weeks otherwise. Haven’t found any 16340’s that wont fit. I have a ton of button top protected cells and a bunch of those cells with the charging port built into them. All of them fit fine though, I don’t use them. The 16340 format has outlived it’s usefulness to me.

Many thanks for the help guys. Now the waiting game until it ships, Battery Junction is awaiting stock.

ah, sorry, did not realize I gave you a link for a backordered item
worth waiting for…

my justifications on using unprotected IMR:

IF my RRT-01 gets noticeably dim between recharges, I take it as a low battery warning. Ive tested that behavior with a voltmeter and it has never been below 3.4v by the time I notice.

I can see the light is about half as bright, and I can tell Im having to turn the dial twice as far to get the expected brightness, when the battery is about half empty.

I feel reasonably safe using unprotected IMR chemistry. I have not had any overdischarge situations, have not left the light on and fallen asleep. I also test my battery voltage regularly, so Ive learned how much typical usage I can get, before needing to recharge.

I love having the 1200mAh cell in the RRT-01… double the capacity of my protected 16340 cells…

a couple more observations of 18350 IMR vs 16340 ICR in my RRT-01

The IMR will give me a maximum lumen output that is double the output I get with an ICR

I also just observed that the IMR flickers on maximum, when the cell is at 3.6v, I can tell the light is trying to go to a higher but the discharge level of the battery cannot maintain the brightness it could with a full charge.

What’s the current best (cheapest, most reliable) place to order the 2019 RT01? I checked out HKEquipment but their eBay store is often out of stock or don’t list it. Battery Junction has it but for $80 and I see people mentioning buying it closer to $70. Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you.

Battery Junction has it. Shoot them an email or phone call and see what they can do for you. I have had success getting a decent discount in the past. Mention BLF as well.

Coupon code JETBEAM4U took off 10%, hopefully still valid.
