Isn’t the current extension tube interest list for the Q8 and not the lantern? If we’re talking about tracking LANTERN extension tubes it’s simple enough for me to capture it in the same Oracle table I’m using for the lantern. A web app would be ideal but my home system isn’t set up for that. However a thread that is only used for expressing interest in one would be simple enough for me to monitor and then to insert the user data into my table.
A separate thread would be the way to go in my opinion.
This lantern is based on the Sofirn Q8 design, at least the body and head began there. Obviously there are some significant changes, but the tube extension tube for the Q8 should be compatible with the lantern.

Having the option for a battery expansion tube sounds good, but maybe we should also consider the option to make (replacement) battery tubes for larger size batteries like 26650s or 21700s. They would also enhance the runtime significantly but are smaller and lighter than a whole second tube/battery carrier and would maybe also give the lantern a better stand than the standart (or even the longer) version.
And @The Miller: I don’t think that a crank or small solar panel on top would make any sense on a lantern like this. With a battery capacity that big it would take hours of cranking or weeks in the sun to noticeably charge the batteries. A large external (usb) solar panel makes much more sense.

I think we are years past that point. You are talking about trying to spool up a whole new production line. The benefit of this project is it uses an existing platform. Besides, once you are in 4× 18650 territory running as low a current as this will run, the differences really aren’t worth it. You’re going to be hard pressed to ever run out the batteries as it is. Something 4× 26650 would be super annoying to lug around as well.

That thread is targeted for the Q8 which I assume is being monitored and the interest list maintained by the OP (BlueSwordM). I’m willing to maintain an extension tube list for the lantern (since I would get one myself) but as I don’t have any interest in one for the Q8 I don’t look at that thread, and have no plans too.
I will add those who express an interest in an extension tube in this thread to my database but anyone who did so in BlueSwordM’s thread with the expectation that it will be for the lantern will have to do so in this thread. Is everyone 100% sure that the extensions work for both the Q8 and lantern?

Your idea is great, but I’m afraid the compatibility is an issue, since the threads are slightly different between BLF Q8 and Sofirn Q8, even new batch and old batch are different.
Furthermore, the BLF lantern is still being designed, I don’t know what a design it will be.

If Sofirn builds the lantern with the head body & tail cap threads the same as their Q8, then the Q8 extension tubes should work just fine without having to design & build a new one. Just order the Sofirn Q8 extension tubes.

Let’s go with that approach. Anyone interested in an extension tube can post their interest in the other thread which is maintained by BlueSwordM (assuming he’s the one currently doing so).

Besides the awesome lantern itself, this project has also drawn in new blood. Look at how many expressions of interest come from users with <10 posts that are recent members (myself included). Lurkers are joining BLF in droves just like they used to wait in line at iPhone launches. That’s an achievement to be proud of and a real service to the forum itself.
Respect!
I did notice how some new members joined because of interest in the lantern project alone. I hope we can produce this into production soon, as were just awaiting for some word back form Barry & the factory after the new year holidays there.
Pretty sure this is what got me to join many years ago….
You can see all your past posts by clicking on your name. Same for any member. Here is your first post. It was a different Group Buy, but it wasn’t long before you posted in this one.
Anyone who has expressed an interest in a lantern should verify that their BLF user name is correct in the Interest list by user names link. When the lanterns are ready for purchase the pm’s will be automatically generated based upon the user name in that file so if your name is incorrect then you won’t be getting a pm
This is a one time only check so if your name is correct now then it will be correct going forward. In other words you only need to check once. Note that embedded spaces are valid characters so for example a name having one embedded space is not the same as a name having 2 embedded spaces.
Different letter cases in the user name doesn’t matter. Eg. Userxxx is the same as uSERXXX for the purposes of the pm’s.
If a name needs to be corrected send me a pm and don’t just post it in this thread because it could very well be missed.
DO NOT send me a pm saying that your name is fine.
Thanks

So wait, I’ve heard a few different things now, kind of conflicting, do we have an official way to express interest in extended tubes that doesn’t involve filling this thread with noise?

I can’t reach the page at the moment.
That’s interesting. I can access it using Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Do you have java scripts turned off? It has to be enabled to display the file in the link.

I’m interested. Is it too late? What’s the price range? I can’t seem to fix one.
That’s great!
You’re not too late.
The price is roughly $30 or $40, maybe, hopefully. It has not been finalized.
We’re glad to have you here!
In the future, if you look at the top left of any thread page here, you will see a button that says “search within thread”, you can get your answers much faster that way. In fact, I couldn’t remember the price, so I used it to find this answer for you by searching for “price”.
I saw this forum while researching mods for the Thorfire Q8 I just purchased as a work light. It hasn’t arrived yet, but I was looking for ways to make it a good area light for some construction type work. This looks to be even closer to what I’ve been looking for.
Put me down for 2 lanterns please!
P.S. Looks like you’ve done some great work, thank you!
EDIT: Increased the qty to 2 because I feel like I’d regret it otherwise
I believe that there is already a thread for this tube mentioned by BlueSwordM.
I made the same mistake and propogated it. Those that would like to show interest in the extension tube should go to this thread and post their interest.
This lantern is based on the Sofirn Q8 design, at least the body and head began there. Obviously there are some significant changes, but the tube extension tube for the Q8 should be compatible with the lantern.

I want an extension tube too!
I’m on the list for 3 lanterns (#s 219, 220, 212).
Please put me on the list for 3 extension tubes as well.
Thank you!!

Not trying to be rude, just an honest question.
May I ask the CNY season was over any word from Sofirn ?
Were waiting for information & updates back from them. As soon as we get some i will post an update.
