I haven’t had any issues with battery fitment as of yet. Purple Efest, Red Efest, and AW are the ones I have that fit fine. I had to solder blob the flat tops but other than that I haven’t had any issues. They are all unprotected. I don’t check voltage at all really. If it gets heavy use during a day I will recharge the cell, or once every few weeks otherwise. Haven’t found any 16340’s that wont fit. I have a ton of button top protected cells and a bunch of those cells with the charging port built into them. All of them fit fine though, I don’t use them. The 16340 format has outlived it’s usefulness to me.
ah, sorry, did not realize I gave you a link for a backordered item
worth waiting for…
my justifications on using unprotected IMR:
IF my RRT-01 gets noticeably dim between recharges, I take it as a low battery warning. Ive tested that behavior with a voltmeter and it has never been below 3.4v by the time I notice.
I can see the light is about half as bright, and I can tell Im having to turn the dial twice as far to get the expected brightness, when the battery is about half empty.
I feel reasonably safe using unprotected IMR chemistry. I have not had any overdischarge situations, have not left the light on and fallen asleep. I also test my battery voltage regularly, so Ive learned how much typical usage I can get, before needing to recharge.
I love having the 1200mAh cell in the RRT-01… double the capacity of my protected 16340 cells…
a couple more observations of 18350 IMR vs 16340 ICR in my RRT-01
The IMR will give me a maximum lumen output that is double the output I get with an ICR
I also just observed that the IMR flickers on maximum, when the cell is at 3.6v, I can tell the light is trying to go to a higher but the discharge level of the battery cannot maintain the brightness it could with a full charge.
What’s the current best (cheapest, most reliable) place to order the 2019 RT01? I checked out HKEquipment but their eBay store is often out of stock or don’t list it. Battery Junction has it but for $80 and I see people mentioning buying it closer to $70. Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you.
Battery Junction has it. Shoot them an email or phone call and see what they can do for you. I have had success getting a decent discount in the past. Mention BLF as well.
same here, no muggles w my IMR
and fwiw, the max lumens w my Keepower 18350 IMR is double what I get w ICR 16340
as a rough estimate, when my IMR is about half empty, at about 3.6v, its output is similar in lumens on maximum, to a fully charged 16340, at about 4.1v
I ordered mine from Battery Junction after this thread brought it to my attention. They showed it not available yet, I ordered it anyway. Ordered on the 1-28 and arrived at my door 2-5. So maybe yours will show up a little early too.
Once you own a rotary light it’s hard to go back to anything else.
The 2019 RRT-01 appears to be really large compared to the original. Does anyone have both? I’ve got a Niteye Eye-12 ” AA ” battery tube heading my way, seller says it has a bad switch. Hopefully I’ll be able to repair /replace the switch and increase my 01’s battery compatibility.
I don’t have the original but I have seen pics of the original and the new one does look to be bigger. I will say this is one hefty chunk of a flashlight. It’s not a feather weight or a disappear in your pocket type light. That being said it has a really quality feel to it. It looks and feels like it could survive a serious beating. I don’t know how much it weighs and I don’t really care to weigh it. It rides in my pocket just fine. The ring on mine works perfectly and the stated output seems about right, again I don’t really care to measure it but to my eye it looks plenty bright. I swapped the emitter in mine so it’s now to my liking.
The XPL that was in it was too cold white for me. I don’t use 16340’s so I use 18350’s in mine and the run times are just fine for my purpose. If it had a 14500 tube for it I doubt I would get it or use it. I got one for my V11R and it just made it too long so I gave it away. I have an abundance of 18350’s so running out of power for the light isn’t a concern of mine. I also if needed, have entirely way too many 16340’s if I get super desperate.
It’s a good light. If you are a variable ring fan, you will like it. I don’t use my lights to hunt walls, art, food, or anything else. They get used as tools because, well, that is what they are. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
I agree, the pic shows the new one is fatter. I only have the original
My Original RRT-01 Weight: 49 grams w pocket clip, empty
the weight with battery, depends what kind of battery I use, my 18350 is 25 grams, so my carry weight for the old model is 74 grams including battery.

says the new RRT-01 weights 75 grams empty
that tells me that the new model weighs 26 grams more than the old model.
I like to use my tools to hunt white walls, and I weigh them
.
I do not plan to buy the new RRT-01 because I am fortunate to have the original.
the new model is
fatter
heavier, (empty weight is 53% heavier)
the ball track has hash marks, it is not smooth like the Original model
but, the old model is NLA
so, I think the new version gives those less fortunate, an opportunity to enjoy a magnetic rotary UI and 18350 power, which I think is really cool!
