Zebralight SC64c LE w/High CRI Nichia 219B R9080 $150

Please send me a PM and I’ll add you to the list. I’ve been trying to purchase more lights to mod for a few weeks now, but it’s very difficult to get in touch with ZL and they don’t have enough available on their site. I’m starting to suspect they are discontinuing the SC64c in favour of the LE version, but they are the same light with a different LED so either works fine for this mod. I just need to be able to buy them :person_facepalming:

Just tell me this won't work for a Luxeon V and I can stop worrying about how I can't afford it.

I have a crappy update. I’ve been trying to secure another supply of lights to mod from Zebralight, but the SC64c is about to be discontinued and has limited availability; while the LE version will work fine, it’s perpetually backordered, and they have no idea when I might expect to receive an order at this point.

I’ve ordered Zebralights from nkon before, so I contacted them and registered to be notified when they had stock of the new LE. Today they received 20 units, and I tried to order 10. Transaction declined. Tried another card, transaction declined. Tried PayPal, transaction declined. Then I spent 45 minutes on hold with my bank trying to get a security block lifted on the transaction while I watched it slowly sell out. And to top it off I accidentally hung up when they finally got back on the line.

So that was my day. I’m trying to find out if nkon will receive more stock any time soon or if Zebralight can give me a solid answer on when an order I place now will actually ship.

Dang , that sounds like a hassle. Well , hope you have some better luck in the future . :+1:

Damn. So if I acquired a suitable host, could I just send it to you?

I’m dealing with ZL right now regarding a very off-centered emitter in my SC64c LE. This will be my second time trying to get my order right with them, at this point might be willing to just send it off to you for the 219B treatment….

Round 2 with the bank’s security department…

There’s a chance one of my orders went through partially, but I have to wait until tomorrow to hear from nkon.

You sir, are a saint for dealing with this.

Thanks for your efforts! Can’t wait to hear about the next batch

Things are looking up! I have 6 of the new LEs on the way as of this afternoon, and I’m told the lead time is now much more reasonable, so I’ll be ordering more in the next few days. I’m going to start contacting people on the wait list, so look out for a PM

I also wanted to say if your order hasn’t arrived yet and you didn’t receive a tracking number for a tracked service, it’s because PayPal apparently doesn’t bother including it in the shipping emails, which I only recently learned. It also won’t let me attach a tracking number to a shipped invoice because it “already exists”. Please get in touch if you’d like your tracking number!

Great news, thanks for the update!

Bob, you are most excellent for all of your trials and tribulations on our behalf. Fingers crossed I make the cut! :+1:

edit: DOH should have checked my PMs, replied :DDDDDDD

My prediction: All of Bob_McBob’s order attempts went through and he gets 50 SC64 LE’s. :sunglasses:

It’s interesting to learn indirectly via Bob’s trouble ordering them that the LE is apparently seeing very strong demand. That’s a good message to Zebralight that there is more to high CRI than a datasheet claiming a “2-step Macadam Ellipse.”

Maybe, maybe the will do their homework.
But after receiving this response I don’t think so. 0.03lm translates to 0.08lm, that’s a huge difference.

:+1: :+1:

Invoices all sent out for the new batch of lights

Update: I am currently building lights. My new method is to build one light at a time from start to finish, generally one or two per day at most. I do them in the order I received inquiries and sent invoices, and I will PM you when your number is up and try to send a couple teaser photos as well. I’m being more methodical about getting them done now so all current orders should be cleared in the next 1 1/2 weeks or so. Just watch out for a PM

Also, I have a handful of LEs in stock to mod that are unspoken for. They are a fair bit easier to acquire now Zebralight is finished transitioning from the original XP-L2 model.

Here’s an interesting option I’ve been wanting to try for a while. This is a dedomed 5000K Samsung LH351D “dog fart” (SPHWHTL3 DA0GF4RTS 6). Nothing fancy, just a razor blade slice without any polishing.

The stock SC64c LE looks pretty decent on H1. I’ve tested quite a few, and they usually sit in the range of Duv 0.0004-0.0008 with CRI ~9070. Lower outputs get increasingly green with slightly higher CRI. Good examples are usually around 0.0033 at L1 (fairly green), while the worst one was 0.0061 (very green).

Djozz’s testing has shown that slicing the LH351D tends to lower CCT and Duv and create a pleasantly rosy tint. The “dog farts” seem to behave a little differently in that they lose a lot of CCT, have more CCT variation, but also end up quite rosy on low modes. In the SC64c, H1 is is a very nice Duv –0.0005 at CRI 9151, and by L1 it’s –0.0031 and CRI 9675. Because the “dog farts” are a higher flux bin, H1 output is about 690 lumens vs. 745 lumens for a stock LE even with the dedoming loss. This isn’t an ultra rosy sw45k, but it has a great tint at any level and maintains most of the stock output. Because it’s a dedomed LED, throw increases from 123m to 165m, the hot spot is smaller, the big blobby corona typical of LH351D is greatly reduced, and the spill is less purple. If a customer desired, I could trim the dome to the edge of the die to increase throw even more at the expense of corona and spill.

I’m interested to know what everyone thinks of this option. Is the SC64c DF something you would like to be able to purchase?

Now I know you didn’t made up the “dog fart” terms. It’s actually the real part number….
All this time I thought it was you :person_facepalming:
Bring it down lower the BBL Bob, shave closer to the phosphor layer :stuck_out_tongue:

Very cool results with the slicing of the Samsung LED.
I have read this LED is fairly floody. How does the sliced version compare to the 219b in terms of beam profile?
