Are the threads from a Convoy S2+ compatible with the Convoy S2?
(Independent of the thread length)
I would like to assemble/modify a 18350 Host with the deep reflector for an OSRAM KW CSLNM1.TG (1mm2)

Oh man, you did what I had planned to do
Thanks for creating the thread!
I also have the same doubt about which S2+ 18350 tubes are the compatible with the Convoys S2 (black or grey) !
Here is some info, but it does not report to all the possibilities: http://budgetlightforum.com/comment/1369265#comment-1369265
If any member having different 18350 tubes and different Convoys S2 can tell anything on this, it would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I did that mod with a shorty S8 (+ lighted tail
), and I’m almost sure I used the S2+ 18350 tube for that.
link to djozz tests
Stooopid me, I couldn’t remember who did it, but it was you djozz
Now I remember!!
The thing is that not all 18350 tubes fit the S2. And despite I like the S8, I’d prefer the S2.
In case it doesn’t work (the tubes in the S2), I’ve been measuring and I’ll do it with a SMO reflector and a small pill both from S2 in a S2+ host. With a Led4Power driver configured for 5A!

I just verified the S2 head fits the S2+ short tube and the S2+ head fit the S2 long tube — The tail cap of the grey S2 worked on the short tube—I have a Black S2 that the tail cap won’t work on the short tube—for some reason the black S2 has a tail cap like the S6—- If I remember correctly one of the pills won’t work in the other —not sure— I had some triple pills machined and I remember the machinist telling me the pill thread pitch was different between the long and short versions
What a great idea on the 18350/deep reflector/OSRAM KW CSLNM1.TG Zelda.
Really looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
Thanks for your input on this
About the pill, I hope the S2 pill fits well in the S2+, in case the tubes don’t match the threads…

Sounds like a wonderful pocket thrower.
Maybe in a S6… but is there a copper pill available?

Thanks for all the answers! I will keep you guys in the loop.
@Ryzbor: I haven’t saw a short copper version of the the pill.
Here’s a pic of S2+ with short pill/long reflector —- as you can see the S2+ head is aout 1/8” too short of accepting the battery tube completely—the S2 head is 1/8” longer —— you might be able to shorten the thread length but I’m not sure how that will affect the short tube with a 18350 cell —most of the time it’s already on the short side — you might be able to gain some by trimming/sanding the pill — both the pill and the reflector have a recessed space for the LED board
A quick update: Simon told me that at least the threads are not compatible.
(I ordered a grey S2 and a grey S2+ 18350 tube.)
I have a grey S2 and green & blue S2+ lights using 18350 tubes and everything fits on everything.
Chris
I had already asked Simon and that was is answer
(Sorry, it was posted in another thread )
Please say something about that combination (gray – gray) when you get it!
I have 3 “types” of tubes from the S2+: black, desert tan and blue/grey (from the “mini” S2+ 18350).
When you get the results, in case the gray short tube doesn’t fit the S2 host, I can buy other tubes besides the ones I have and say which fit and which don’t and let people know about it.
Chris, the gray S2 is matched with a gray 18350 tube?
The S2+ we know they are interchangeable, but it was shown in another thread that the gray 18350 tube didn’t fit the gray S2 host, but that the “silver” 18350 tube was fitting that!
Maybe this has to do with different batches of hosts/short tubes and different places where they are bought? (example, my S2+ tan bought in Gearbest has a different anodizing from the one I bought from Simon)

Unfortunately, I already canceled the grey 18350 tube from the order.
(I have a green 18350 tube for testing.)
All parts from a grey S2+ are interchangeable and make proper contact with the green, blue and orange S2+ parts.
The grey S2+ has just a bit smaller bore as the color ones. (18.75mm vs. 18.9mm)
I noted this in Post #5 — I guess a picture is worth 35 more Post about whether they fit or not
I know you did mate, and I was not doubting you, but conflicting information that the gray tube wouldn’t fit, I was trying to ascertain if it was an isolated case! Sorry if I sounded otherwise

And thanks for the photo
I’ll be ordering from Simon soon having this info in hands
Thanks again

Yesterday I received my S2 gray and a short grey tube! I confirm the gray, black and desert tan shorty tubes fit
However the anodizing colour is slightly different from the flashlight.
Here are some photos! You can see that the shorty tube is more blueish (like the Convoy S2+ on the right)

BTW, Simon wrongly sent me a OP reflector. Still, I moded the light with a Led4power LD-A4 driver (configured to 4A) and an Osram white flat! The beam looks more defined in the photos that in reality, but is still nice! I’m still thinking about buying the SMO reflector or not.

I received the S2 host and did following:
- Replaced OP with SMO reflector (with only 5mm opening)
- Replaced spring from switch with stronger spring
- Brass contact for driver (no spring)
- led4power LD-A4 driver, set to 4.5A
- OSRAM KW CSLNM1.TG (1mm2)
- 18350 tube from a green S2+
- Keeppower IMR 18350 750mAh Battery
This small thing puts a stunning amount of light with a intesive small hotspot!
Gets warm/hot pretty quick too
I’m reading 23500lx from the S2 with Osram, from a S2+ with SMO and XP-L HI with 4.5A I get only 10700lx.
Edit: Be aware that a protected 18350 maybe not fit with this parts! You need a shorter spring.
