Wow, this turned to be a real BLF special, not just a slightly better S70S, as the original K70 was intended. I'm very impressed how Sofirn listened to us on this one. I know it's taken time, but look'n at the performance and UI, seems like a winner, best 2 26650 cell stock light out there.
Details I'd be concerned about are PWM rates, parasitic drain, efficiency, etc. If this is a somewhat new FET design, not sure if they have lower output secondary channels, etc., like we do in our BLF drivers. Not sure if anyone knows this stuff yet, or again, I'm just missing it.
A lot of time was also spent designing it for good heat dissapation.
Unfortunately, we don’t have real specific details on the driver design. I don’t think the average buyer needs those details, but I know certain BLF members want to know. The problem is I’m communicating through Tracey and it’s very hard for her to translate this information to and from their engineers.
I was really hoping we would get a sample light to run through its paces, get real specs, get driver pictures, beam shots, inspect for any issues, etc… but I’m not sure that will happen.
This isn’t really a true BLF light (like someone here designing the driver), it’s more a Sofirn light with BLF influence and suggestions.
Well, at least they are listing it as the "BLF SP70" for now, and like you said, there's a lot of BLF influence. Yea, sure would have been nice to get a sample or two out there...
The last I heard is that the BLF price would be much lower than $72, but I’m still waiting to see what Sofirn has decided.
I also don’t know how they would give certain people the discount price. Aliexpress and Amazon does not use coupon codes, afaik. It might be similar to the Sofirn Q8 where you put it in your cart then contact them with a “code word” to get the discount price. I’m sure they will say once they have it all worked out.
You can preorder on aliexpress now, the sale price is US $61.59 for flashlight alone, but you add it into cart, leave a note of your BLF ID,
we will lower the price to USD$50. Orders will be shipped as soon as possilbe!
NOTE:
1. the light is supposed to has 2 versions: one is sofirn SP70 for muggles, the other is sofirn SP70 - BLF Edition for flasholics. Sofirn SP70 is released first
2. the light officially gives out 5500LM via normal 5500mAh 26650 batteries, while it gives almost 7000LM via HD 26650 batteries and more than 7000LM via 21700 batteries, you need to purchase the batteries seperately.
3. sofirn officailly suggest 5500mAh 26650 batteries for muggles. While flasholics can choose to use HD 26650 batteries which fit nicely, and 2* 21700 batteries can fit but really really tight, not good for the batteries and springs.
4. For those who are located in USA and Germany, we suggest you wait for amazon availability, same price and faster shipping.
5. A sample of Sofirn SP70 will be sent to Jason when the first batch is fulfilled. Then we can talk about a real BLF Edition. Maybe use smooth reflector, add retaining ring or move a bigger step forward for more leds and more powerful etc. It’s possible but not sure.
When you consider what is costs to build something similar, assuming you have the skills and don’t consider the time you spend doing it, I think it’s a really good price. I wasn’t even sure they could build and sell it at $50 and make a profit.
It looks like it will have a 6000K-6500K at first, then later Sofirn will get in the 5350K-5700K.
