FW3A, a TLF/BLF EDC flashlight - SST-20 available, coupon codes public

Can’t way to try the firmware!

My D4 with SST and SC64LE with Samsung emitters are similar in actual use. Trade-off: Samsung is prettier, SST has better throw.

No indication yet. “SST20 4000K 95CRI” is the extent of the details I’ve heard.

I’m glad to hear about the SST-20, both because it should avoid further delays with a high-CRI option, and because I think it’s a better beam shape for most use cases than the LH351D in a triple (though I’m quite fond of the latter in a reflector).

Now… how many of these do I need?

Well, it is BLF, not all will wait. My emitter of choice isn't even offered (Luxeon V ) but I'm sure going to make it.

My emitter choices are long since ordered and arrived and ready to install as soon as the lights get here

SST-20 is perfectly fine with me. I’m glad they’re moving forward. I’ve got some 4000K LH351D’s on hand to try if I don’t like the SST-20.

Relevant info for those who like to mod:

AED still has 5000K LH351D, 90 CRI emitters available. Djozz and Bob McBob have both verified that when dedomed, the Samsungs get warmer , throwier, and the Duv decreases (goes from slightly green to neutral or even slightly rosy).

Output does decrease, but the LH351D should still have an advantage, especially at high currents. If Djozz’s measured 19% lumen loss is typical, then adjusting the figures in the datasheets for common bins yields (emitter lumens, not OTF):

CCT 700mA 3000mA
LH351D S2 5000K sliced ~4300K 215 lumens 692 lumens
SST-20 J4 4000K 4000K 193 lumens 556 lumens

The SST-20 should still have a bit better CRI and R9, and perhaps also slightly better throw.

Yesterday I installed SST20 4000K 95 CRI in my modded Sipik 58 zoomie with LED Lenser style optic and electronic switch, and also in my Jetbeam TCR-01 triple.

This emitter is growing on me. I quite like it actually.

I’m saving nichia SW 45K since already too long especially and only for a couple of FW3A

And will order E21A triple MCPCB from virence when it will be ready.
CRI70 is something from the past for me, even with the “best” tint.

yea i guess, if i had skills i would swap emitters myself but i cant do that so im stuck for now…

219C 4070E. Consider me jealous.

I do plan to put some 219B sw45k in one of these.

I had to look back at the datasheet to understand why anybody would be jealous of a 7-step binned emitter…

It made sense once I saw what slice of the pie that is.

I thought such binning in a 219C was a unicorn that existed only as a theoretical position on the datasheet.

Honestly all I care about is having a cheaper option than X-PL HI, since that will offset the cost of buying something to replace the emitters with if I don’t like them. Have no real interest in the X-PL HI so not looking forward to paying anything additional for them (unless they decide to offer a 4000 or 4500K bin… ).

I’m okay with waiting for additional options.

This 219C is nice but 219B SW45 and SW40 are clear winners for me, but I don’t like the idea to have my eyes and brain “shaped” by and “shaped” to the 219B. Before the E21A series, this 219C was (and still is) a good option. R9050 type shows its limit compared to R9080 though.

Please put me on the list for 1 of these. XPL HI sounds right up my alley. Thank you.

Is this a real thing? I would love for this to be true…

Clemence has indicated he has plans to maken a E21A triple board:

I don’t think the E21A is well suited for a FET driver, but it could be an option to remove the FET from the driver, and you’d still have a nice 2.8A, floody, pocketable light with excellent tint and Anduril UI. The ramp would top out after about 2.2 seconds instead of 2.5 seconds.

Ah, sounds good. I’ve a Q8 with the sst20’s I quite like, and to me and to most people I’ve talked to, they are a bit yellow at lower currents, and very nice at higher. Not green in the opinion of most people, (though TK says lemongrass). For 4000k being above the BBL means being yellow. I’m pretty okay with them, although I might like the extra output of the lh351d, so I’ll probably just get these instead of waiting and let the D4 be the one to be super high output. They should be comparable throw, while being high cri - a perfect option for those who were on the fence, and who won’t mind the tint. I’d still like 219b in one though.

I’m glad the optics are on the way. It seems we are one step closer. Will there be final prototypes sent out for review before production? Beating the dead horse, I will say again, it could save a lot of problems in the long run.

The FET can be disabled in firmware without having to modify the driver.

No longer need my reservation, #1972. Picked up a used SC64W recently so been using that.
