TC66C-a powerful Type-C USB tester

nobody wants to talk about it

I’m in the market for one of those adjustable DC power supplies with a case. Any deals for those?

Stupid question: How can I use this nice device with USB-A ports (both in and out)? Can I use adapters (USB-A to USB-C, microUSB to USB-C) or is it not recommended to use adapters? Will adapters have any influence on the results measured by this device? Thanks for your feedback!

Good question. I’d like to know the answer, too.

Using any kind of cables/adapters can certainly increase resistance and impact readings. If you want to avoid having to use those, for USB-A, look at the UM25C:

Ah okay, thank you Pete7874! :+1:
Actually, I already have the UM24 that I like very much.

RD Technology also sell adjustable DC power supplies but you need buy case in their store and build up by yourself, It is 328 festival so you can buy that at a inexpensive price, just have a look at RD technology or other stores, buy the one fits you. :sunglasses:

you can use adapters but it will influence the accuracy of the result because of its resistance, the Micro-USB port of TC66C is used for independently charging, so this device is designed for Type-c port. hope it helps you :student:

Where is the PC software?

The instructions refer you to this location:

But when you go to this location, there is only an .apk file there which is not a Windows executable.

Same thing here.

I’ve also bought the TC66C.

I’m looking forward to testing it.

Ah ok, thank you.

So, do you work at RDTech?

Are there any products being made/in the product pipeline?

they give me a product , then I test it and write an article so that I can get this beta TC66C for free, you can just have a look at their eshop, they have their own factory.

they said they will upload PC software in two days, you can use it when you get your item. I use beta version :person_facepalming:

What is the “CC drop down” they talk about in the description?

“For CC drop-down:PD stipulate that type-c interface has no output by default. When there is a drop down on the CC line (pin in the Type-c interface), PD charger thinks that the load is connected and then starts the 5V output. Therefore, it is normal for the tester to plug directly into the PD charger and not light. if CC drop down is enabled in the setting of TC66, when you plug TC66, it will automatically brighten the screen after it is set as enabled, but it may affect the normal charging process. If protocol detection and trigger are to be carried out, CC drop down must be enabled, and the back end shall not be connected with any load. If it is set to be off, the charging of PD charger will not brighten the screen, and the charging process will not be affected. Please first plug the tester into the charger and then insert the load.”
this is written in their Introduction

Sounds very confusing. So what if you want to trigger a specific protocol and apply load using that specific protocol, for example PD 20 volt?

at first,we should make sure that charger support that protocol, then you set the protocol you need, when finished setting, connect it to your load

Right, but what about CC drop-down in this case? Should it be enabled or disabled?

enable

Function01: independently charged
“we can see there is a Micro-USB port on TC66©, it is used for independently charged so that TC66© will not consume system power, and we can have more accurate measurement calue. On the other side, when TC66© is independently charged,we can measure voltage from 0.005V.”
quoted from post detail of TC66C :innocent:
they update everyday, and you guys can click “follow” at eshop of RD to get coupons(this is an advertisement :money_mouth_face: )

When are they going to start shipping these devices?

For now, they still seem to be testing them. Aliexpress will cancel the order if it’s not shipped out within X number of days.
