Sofirn SP70 Alone $50, PM for AMZ US CODE(LIMITED)

’If’ those are Genuine Liitokala 26650’s like many of us have bought over the past couple of years …. they will be just fine.
But as Jason mentioned, many of these Ali Stores sell fake & sub-par batteries. :person_facepalming: . :frowning:

And as Jason mentioned, you’ll either have to solder b(. )( .)b them or use something like the Jaxman Battery Connector….

……
I use the battery connector myself & really like it. I bought a bunch of them a few years ago for about a buck apiece, IIRC.
I do notice the price since then has soared…… :open_mouth: . :person_facepalming: . Wow… :frowning:

I queried whether my SP70 had been shipped as I had a tracking number etc, and Sofirn said the item was not yet in stock. So engage patience mode.

The cut-away drawing shows the ratio of depth to width of a targeted reflector. This looks even deeper than the photo’s suggest but for the sake of argument lets say they made it just like the drawing. The ideal proportions to attain throw are a near 1:1 ratio, so ideally if the reflector is 90mm in diameter it should also be 90mm deep or very near that… but extrapolating data from that cutaway indicates a depth of only 64mm. Very shallow for a reflector targeting throw… time will tell, of course…

I believe the inner edge of the reflectors diameter is about 77mm, not 90. 90mm is the head diameter.
This was discussed long ago. The reflector is fairly short for it’s diameter. I showed them where they can extend the head, but they weren’t interested in doing that. So we just have to live with it. :weary:

The SP70 is more a general purpose light, not specifically designed for throw, even though it does throw pretty far.

I think when they decided on OP reflector they abandoned the whole maximizing throw idea. As it is configured the head is probably larger than necessary but maybe that will lead to more modding potential down the road, idk

A flashlight with a 90mm head size should be meant for throw, or do not bother making the head so big. You could trade maximum possible throw for increased output by choosing the XHP70.2, that is fine, but you can not just reduce the maximum possible throw by using an inferior reflector and get nothing in return. It makes the flashlight very unattractive.

I still hope that once the actual flashlights show up and can be tried and measured, that the reflector and throw is just fine.

Yeah, I'm also very interested to see if parts are glued on the non-BLF Special version.

Of course, if they're willing to put a BLF Special Edition logo on it, I may wait anyway.

It was a pretty terrible marketing decision to even mention a BLF special edition. It sounds like it’s just an idea right now and if this initial one doesn’t sell you can be assured they will not bother making any other edition.

Dam, I just got an L2 and a L6 XHP70.2 , barely checked them out. Expensive lights for a poor boy. I thought I was all set with throwers for the rest of this lifetime . This should have more than twice the throw of a 70.2 L6 according to the product descriptions? I can’t wait to see reviews.

I’ve not heard of any bugs.

I wouldn’t call the L6 a thrower.

Doesn’t the new L6 70.2 come with a SMO instead the original OP version? It must have some decent throw?

I worded that wrong. I didn’t hear of any bugs either. I’m waiting for reviews before I buy one just in case.

I know what you mean, but L6 has a really long throw compared to any of my other lights.

About getting a discount on HD battery shipping costs when ordering the SP70, Aliexpress suggested I order a SP70 kit and they can send HD 26650 batteries with it instead of the regular non-HD batteries.

I wonder if this is going to open up the possibility if a shipping error on their part (shipping the regular non-HD batteries).

It might, but if they suggested it; take a chance & go for it. :+1:

The Aliexpress supplier was “qidong yang”. Since there are several suppliers within the Sofirn store, how do we know if the battery supplier will coordinate the total purchase with the SP70 supplier?

I don’t know. Is it the Sofirn Store on AliExpress that told you to do that??

If so and you want the HD 26650’s… I guess you’ll just have to trust their suggestion & trust them with working out the details. :+1:

It was a supplier from the Aliexpress Sofirn store. I was under the belief that the Aliexpress Sofirn Store has several suppliers - this is why the same Sofirn battery can have different prices WITHIN the Sofirn Store. Different suppliers, different prices.

The supplier also said i should pay full price first and they will adjust the price AFTER I pay. Is this how the deal is done?

I thought someone here on BLF previously mentioned that the supplier is supposed to quote the exact discount price via a message to you and somehow they arrange for you to pay that discount price, not full price and an adjustment AFTERWARDS.

Correction: they said make an “awaiting payment order”, they will adjust the price. What is an “awaiting payment order”?

It seems the Aliexpress method of giving a discount is not straightforward and is spooking me from making the purchase.

When we buy batteries from the Sofirn Store, do they usually provide a plastic case to go with them (even if they don’t mention a plastic case)?
I assume not but just asking….

BTW, does BLF have any Aliexpress promo codes?

Just buy the kit like they told you & place the order like we told you & wait for the email requesting you to pay the adjusted price.

It actually is pretty straight forward after you have done it & see how it works. Don’t let it “spook you”… just go for it. It will all work out just fine. :+1:

If you order the ‘kit’ the batteries will most likely ship inside the light. There will be no plastic battery box.

If you buy batteries separately I don’t know if they ship in a plastic case or not. Never bought batteries from AE.

Not sure about A “BLF AliExpress Code”.

Sofirn offers us codes from time to time here on BLF for certain lights.

Edit: For instance……

Special code for BLFers from Sofirn

Just had a message that my SP70 is shipped. Got a different tracking number to the first one and this tracking number is recognised by various websites. And my HD batteries are also shipped
