ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

My trusty HX Outdoors has served me well. Great knives and exceptional value. I am very fond of my lasted stone washed HX.

Ah, yes … TWO sun(s)

Can I get some thoughts on the following knives please?

Ganzo G727M - BK Foldable Knife with Axis Lock and Clip
LAND 9103 Frame Lock Pocket Folding Knife
Gocomma Quick Open Folding Knife

Note that these aren’t for self defence or anything (I feel perfectly safe in my area), more to use as a tool for when I need a knife. Pops up a lot at work, but would probably be EDC too (although would have to check appropriate laws…)

Thanks!

I find that the ESEE 3 is a 3 finger knife and its a tough squeeze to get 4 on the ESEE 4. Once you move up to the 5 its a little better. But if I were wearing gloves I just can’t seem to get grip that I find secure enough on most of the smaller ESEEs.

But everyone has different hands and I am sure that many people find that the ESEEs have plenty large enough handles.

I can give personal experience feedback on one of them.

No feedback

Looks like a Chris Reeve Sebenza knockoff

This one, the GoComma; I can give you personal experience feedback!!

I give this knife a 99 out of 100. The missing “one point” is for a so-so clipwitat needs a bit of TLC & slight tweeking to fit the thicker pocket of blue jeans.

The blade is hollow ground & came hair popping sharp. The blade is advertised as D2 steel. At this point I have no idea if it really is or not. BUT… wharever steel it is, it will hold an edge.

With my first one I have cut at least 200 feet of various thickness cardboard, some rope, hacked on a pine 2x4, hacked on a dry hickory stick, cut summer sausage & done some whittling…. it will still shave hair. I have not sharpened it since I got it. The reason for all the things I just mentioned, especially the cardboard cutting & hacking; is to see how long it will hold an edge & just what it takes to dull it.

Quite frankly…. I am shocked & amazed at this preformance from a $10 knife!! But it is what it is.

I was so amazed at this first one I got ‘a couple months ago’ I ordered 17 more. To sell a few, have a couple of spares, & gift the rest.

6 have already arrived & seems to be the same quality. Fit n’ finish is spot on, and blade is centered. I have not had a chance to do much cut testing with the just arrived ones yet… but initial testing seems to be on par with the first one. :+1:

Sorry if I rambled.

I highly recommend this GoComma…

Here is what I wrote about it on BF….

Thanks! I think the main issue now is shipping and importation into Australia - they’re pretty strict on that kind of thing, IIRC. GearBest are more than happy to ship stuff, but I don’t really want to order things then have them stopped at the border and destroyed.

My pleasure…… :+1:

I understand. I don’t know if there is a blade length restriction… but this one is just a tiny bit over 3 inches.

Blade length
77 mm = 3.031496063 inch = 3 1/32 inch

Personally, I find this size blade; in the 2 7/8 - 3 1/8 inch range to be the perfect size for a pocket knife.

Good luck on the import problem/uncertainty.

Soooooo, if I understand you correctly, you kindasorta like that knife, right?

  :person_facepalming: . That did sound like a commercial didn’t it?

But yeah…. I do like it. At $10 it is a no brainer & from what I have seen “so far” it stacks up darn good against some of my knives that cost MUCH more.

I am still shocked & amazed by that……

The land knives are also excellent, I have the G-10 version with liner lock of that one, and the Ruike P801 which is almost the same as the one you listed, pretty sure they come from same factory/manufacturer. You really can’t go wrong with these knives, only issue I had is they like to put thick slightly stinky grease on the pivots, and sometimes loctite on scale screws so it’s not easy to disassemble if you want to clean the grease off the bearings and replace with oil.

Is THIS ONE the ‘Land’ you are referring to Blackbeard? I have one of these that should be here tomorrow.

LAND 910 Plus Liner Lock

It says it has a 12C27 stainless steel blade and G10 handles.
12C27 is a Swedish stainless by Sandvik. It is a decent steel too.
Does yours hold an edge pretty good??

I have not seen the ’Ruike P801’ you mentioned… I’ll have to find it & check it out.

1 - looks like a copy of a Ontario Rat 2. I’d get that if you can. It’s a good knife especially in D2, and won’t cost much more than the copy.

2- the 12C27 makes it worth it. Its a nice steel. Not super hard, but holds a reasonable edge and gets wicked sharp.

3- From all accounts…and I do mean ALL….an excellent knife for the money, even if it ha gone up in price.

Yeah thats the one, it’s a little heavy, but has great action and very sharp, seems to be holding it’s edge pretty good, thumb stud open. The Ruike is a bit more money and is a flipper(Fenix owns Ruike but I think Sanrenmu makes all these)

@ Blackbeard. … Thanks for the mention of Ruike Knives, I checked out their Web Site & they have some interesting knives. :+1:

I did find this info on the website interesting. It seems for inquiries & service support the email address is Fenix Light…. see below, copied from Ruike website & pasted here:

here is mine:

Ok… thanks for the info Blackbeard. You posted while I was typing & that explains why the Fenix Light email address I found.

:+1: …. Two good looking knifes!!

No problem Teacher, these are both great budget knives, I will probably order one of those Gocommas this week

The 910 Land will be here tomorrow & I’ll probably spring for a Ruike like yours above.

I think you’ll be pleased with the GoComma, I know I am. About an hour ago they were $9.99. They were bumping $16 for a couple of days last week.
