Sofirn SP70 Alone $50, PM for AMZ US CODE(LIMITED)

L-P, more like…

Ooh, mine will arrive tomorrow courtesy of the Amazon van.

... I haven't gotten around to buying my second pair of 26650s though, so I won't have side-by-side comparisons.

Haha…very nice! Annabelle looks even scarier illuminated by the SP70. :+1:

Ssome beamshot comparisons for Convoy L6 and Sofirn SP70 - videos taken at different times, but from the same distance: around 120 meters ground distance (based on Google Maps) for flashlight to opposite building - possibly around 150 meters or so, considering diagonal distance)

Sofirn SP70 (XHP70.2, "5500" lumens, stock OP reflector)

SP70 seems to have similar throw to the Sofirn Q8, but SP70 looks brighter and more focused

Has anyone tried the SP70 with the Sofirn HD 25A 26650 batteries? Any lumen/cd output numbers?

Aliexpress now has the option of purchasing the SP70 with the HD batteries/charger. Nice. The option adds $15 to the price. If you don’t want the charger, its cheaper to separately buy two HDs at about $13.50 for both.

I should be getting my SP70 in the next few days. They couldn’t send it express because it’s got batteries. I think they are the HD batteries plus they sent the SMO reflector. So I’ll be testing all these soon.

SMO reflector Is it going to be an option too? If so, I’m gonna wait on my purchase until I see your test although the original photo of the SMO beamshot was a bit ringy. At this point I will probably just stick with the stock OP reflector but your review will be interesting nonetheless.

I hope the HD batteries turn out decent. I already bought some from the Aliexpress Sofirn store along with a few C8T lights - received them in California in less than 2 weeks. Pretty fast shipping and comparable to regular Amazon shipping times.

I think they sent the Prototype SMO reflector that they used for testing.

When my 26650s arrive, I will do a comparison with my L6 as well.

I'm happy with everything except the tail switch function. I think I may need to mod it because of this...

Has anyone had the side switch apart yet? If not, I'll get to it eventually.

Decent SP70 video with beamshots:

I just ordered mine from US amazon.BTW, Thank you for the code…chiming in to say I have my hand up for a smo reflecter as-well

I remember back when I got the L6 it was said that 2 cells in series must both be protected

So butting up 2 unprotected 26650s is now ok with this SP70?

Yes.

Just rotate the cells on every charge cycle for equal wear.

My SP70 seems to heat slower on turbo than my L6. I also can't really visually tell when/if it steps down.

That was bogus then just as it is now. Protected cells are for newbies who do not check cell voltage before charging or capacity after recharging.

If you are a more experienced user, you will check these things to make sure both cells are healthy. You also want to marry the cells so they are always used together. This allows them to wear at the same rate.

Once you get above 10A or so most protected cells will not even give full output to might trip the protection circuit. Some protected cells just limit all current to 10A. So unprotected high drain is what you need for the highest amperage and output.

BTW, the stock L6 is limited to about 5A-6A so protected cells work just fine.

There is no need for this. You are thinking the cell closest to the head gets warmer?

Once you recharge the cells you put them back in randomly, right?

Stock or modded L6? The SP70 was designed to heat up slower due to the extra mass.

The amps seem to drop slowly as it gets really hot. I don’t think it does a sudden drop. I need to do more testing.

Yes.

In a series setup, the cell closest to the head generation will get slightly hotter.

Swapping the cells when putting them back in can help with small capacity degradation.

Thanks for the clarification guys!

In my sig, fet+1 and XHP70.2
