I went to bed at midnight last night. My Spidey sensors must’ve felt a disturbance in the force because I woke up around 4am (about an hour after PM’s started) and found my message
Thanks TK. Do you still not have a donation account set up?
You mean your Spidey sense’s, there Luke Vader Darth Skywalker
Thanks Kawi. My senses are a bit funny this morning
For future emitters, will there be another preorder/discount or should we buy now like the opportunity will not arise again?
I’m not sure. I asked Neal, and he’s still figuring out the details for that.
However, he says the SST-20 version will be $30 for people in the group buy. He just hasn’t figured out when it will be available to purchase, or how exactly the process will work.
Is the inner black sleeve electrical signal meant to be isolated from the body?
That sleeeve carries the switch signal?
Is it only isolated by the black ano finish? What happens if the ano is scratched and it makes electrical contact to the body?
For future emitters, will there be another preorder/discount or should we buy now like the opportunity will not arise again?
Is the light ON or OFF?
That probably depends how the switch works. But how about either scenario? Will electroncis be damaged? Is there a fire risk since the 18650 has to be unprotected to fit?
I’ve just never seen electronics isolated only by an ano layer. Maybe they are both negative signals so it will just turn the light on or off when the switch circuit is closed to ground?
I’m also a bit surprised the two tint choices are 3000k and 5000k 70CRI. I was really hoping for a 4000k 90CRI but I’ll still buy one to use as a host for LH351D.
I don’t have an FW3A, but I have modded a Sipik 58 a couple times to use a very similar connection scheme for a tailcap switch.
Short answer: If the anno is damaged and there is a direct short from the inner sleeve to the exterior body tube, the effect is the same as holding the button down permanently. Meaning the light would ramp up to max ramp and stay there.
On the up side there really isn’t any reason to remove the inner sleeve. So there shouldn’t be a lot of rubbing or friction. Chances of it getting damaged and shorting assuming it works out of the box are probably pretty low.
I finally made a donation thing. The link is in my signature where it says “Patreon”.
To be clear though, it’s a donation thing for me. I don’t know how to contact a lot of the original team, so I haven’t attempted to set up a team donation system.
What happens if the ano is scratched and it makes electrical contact to the body?
You discover the wonders of kapton tape.
Is there enough room?
Just enough room for one layer of kapton tape.
I have a strip of tape around the inner tube in all my earlier FW3A prototypes, because it was required to make the light reliable. However, I haven’t had any of those issues with the new production sample. It looks like the issues there were finally fixed.
You did good setting that up TK…..
that’s just what you and folks that want to contribute needed……
Thanks. It’s super weird for me though. I’ve never been good at accepting praise or gifts… but it’s easier if I think of it as help.
I see many post thanking ToyKeeper for all her work on this and many other projects here at BLF. Awhile back someone suggested she set something up so folks could help support her work considering what her work has meant to them. Recently, after being asked about it repeatedly, she finally set up an account with Patreon where folks can show their appreciation with donations for her contributions past and future. I suspect there are probably many that don’t know about this and Im confident self promoting is one of the few things TK is not good at.
Im not sure about anyone else, but I find it easy to take all she does for granted………… unless I think about it.
Please think about it, check the link out and turn anyone else on to it that may also be interested in showing their appreciation….. Really there should be a ‘Sticky’ for this ……. Why do I feel like she is fixin to backhand me?
What number is up? I’m going to be in the middle of the night probably.
You can do the math & get (real) close. You can take off a bit of time for multiple orders receiving only one PM notice. The lower your number the less time you deduct.(edit: no longer necessary)
The Math
Your list number x 95 seconds = ___________ seconds
__________ seconds ÷ 3600 seconds = ______ hours
The GROUPBUY went live at 14:00 Central time.
EDIT: Use your number on THISNEWLIST provided by TK & you can calculate a fairly exact time your PM will come to you.

It’s not the interest list number though, since the PM list has duplicates removed. So to clear up any questions about what number people are on the PM list, I put a copy here:

Will $50 be the standard price after the group buy?
This will probably be the list price. I imagine there will be coupon codes eventually which will make it cheaper, but not as cheap as the Group Buy price.

So there is no guarantee that there will be HI-cri leds ever in this light and no guarantee that the codes will or won’t expire while we are waiting?
I don’t know what the final sst-20 version CRI will be.
Codes alway expire eventually. No worries, though. Either this code will still be active or they will send out new codes to people on the list when the sst-20 version is ready.

The interest list number was all we had access to when I posted that.
That is why I said it would get you “close” & that the time would have to be adjusted for the fact that only one PM was sent to those with multiple light orders.
With your PM list available now “The Math” can be almost exact. Thanks for posting that….

I’d like an SST-20 when it becomes available. Can I get in for a second?
I’m okay with donating to just you if everyone else has abandoned ship

(I forgot to take myself off the list before starting the script, oops)
It’s currently at 261 of 1544. You are 311 of 1544. So… coming up within a couple hours?
I was told there would be no math.
