Yes please honor this long development and all involved by not sharing the group code even if its not user specific it would really hurt for those that been on the list for a long time so hopefully we wont have issues like that.

Getting close to the end of the first list, I was just over 1500 in line and just ordered.

Thanks Neal, BLF, and the whole FW3A team!

I don’t think there is a real problem. Just make sure if the components fall out of the tailcap when you take it off, you know how & which order to put them back in.

I imagined it would be for that reason, thanks.

Got my notification, thanks for the hard work FW3A team, and a big thumbs up to TK for keeping this running smoothly.

For 2 of my requested 4, had to go with both a 3D and a 7A. Couldn’t decide! Now to wait for the next round.

What is the problem if I disassemble from the tail?

You will get a little puzzle to reassemble. Wink
You will miss this fun if you enter from the head.

Slim margins at the time of email receipt reduced my quantity to one, but by golly the order went in before my first sip of morning brain juice (coffee).

i ordered the 3D version, not really the sweetest choice for me but still ok. I have 7A and it is just too yellow for my taste, i wish there was a slightly warmer choice than the 3D but i guess that is where the SST20 version comes in.

Now the part where everyone loves Big Smile , the waiting game begins.

I am going to wait for the SST-20. I only got on the list for 1 anyway and it doesn’t feel right to order an XP-L I won’t use. It will be damn hard to wait but I’ll do it. Never been so excited for a flashlight before.

I know it was said a little ways back, the thread is hot and everything gets buried fast, but ToyKeeper? Cool white eliminates a target downrange better than warm white. I’ve got pictures proving it with both emitters in a GT hitting a water tower at 1.9 miles, in a light rain. I’ve got pictures both looking down the beam and from the side at a closer range (I drove to within a few hundred yards of the tower and shot photo’s from off line right, very plain to see that the cool white was putting more light with higher resolution on the tower.

Your test was biased on so many level that it made me “cringe” and in science an example is never considered as a proof or a demonstration.
“I can prove that a bullet isn’t lethal”…by shooting a part of the body without arteries and vital organs.

On earth ground, the lower the angle between the observer and the beamlight, the higher the rayleigh back-scattering. This applies to molecules (air), not particles (dust).

Source (link edited).

Which means that if you are holding the flashlight in your hand, you will have more Rayleigh back-scatterring than someone that is far away on your side. You will have less back-scattering when your are taking a picture on the side of the lightbeam than if you are close to it.
The farther on the side you will be, the better for your demonstration.

The rayleigh back-scattering intensity is greater with short wavelengths (blue) than for higher wavelengths (red), then a CW LED has more rayleigh back-scattering than a WW LED.
It also depends of the spectrum wavelengths absolute and relative intensities.

DB Custom wrote:
At long distances high CRI is really irrelevant…

CW LED has more blue light absolute intensity than WW LED, but with a higher CRI at same CCT, the red wavelengths of a high CRI LED have more intensity than a med CRI LED = more throwy red.

Also keep in mind that when you are holding a flashlight in your hand, the receptor is your eye which doesn’t respond the same to a given spectrum than the receptor of a camera.

Your experiment was very interesting though but have too much relative parameters/variables to draw a firm conclusion like you did.

yes in Dale’s experiment the flashlight was held eight feet to the side of the camera so that the camera was not looking down the beam shot. I found that holding my arm straight out to my side causes a lot less scatter and “reflection“of the light (cool neutral and warm). Sometimes holding it straight arm above my head works better also because you are spilling less light directly in front of you on the ground. Also other objects in the spill or beam between you and the target are going to reflect light back to your eyesight. The warmer it is the less all of that scatter and objects in the spill interfere with your ability to see down range. It’s very easy for people to experiment themselves with the flashlight held at arm’s length off to the side or overhead especially in different atmospheric conditions. Headlights make this even more apparent because the light is right next to your eyes. A cool white headlight on a misty or foggy night is just plain miserable. I’ve seen this in cars/trucks also where are the higher up the seating position is above the headlights the less glare you get. Edit. I’m using scatter reflection and glare somewhat interchangeably here. Not entirely sure I should be doing that. Second edit. The other thing about those Water tower pictures is what is missing. What’s missing is anything in the spill.I don’t know if that’s because the pictures were cropped or the camera was zoomed in or he was up on one high water tower looking at the other one so there was nothing in the spill zone. But objects in the spill is/are going to interfere with your ability to see down range with human eyes. So there are problems with the camera experiment.
