Charger 26650...

Nice "strutting" of skills Could you give us your thoughts on the charger?

Looks like you have a lot of money tied up in that charger....

Next order you place with IOS, they have this single bay charger that will handle 26650 for a good price. I have one on order.

http://www.adafruit.com/products/280

Adjustable charge rate of 100-1200ma, full cc/cv control, thermal protection, input voltage of 5-12VDC. This is what I will be using with 26650's, the bigger the cell, the more important to have a safe charge protocol.

Ive got one of these coming for a friend, ill test it out and if it works OK ill give it to him and post my results on BLF

TrustFire Li-ion Battery Charger For 26650/25500/26700/18650/16340 (US Plug)

From a quick bit of research on a few sites it runs on 110 to 240 volt 50 to 60 HZ comes with a USA power cord but the cord is separate from the charger and easily swapped out for an AU or EU cord from a laptop power supply or old printer, DVD or stereo power cord i have a few spares so its not big deal for me and they are cheap.

It will only charge at 1.5 amps so only really only suited for charging big cells like the 26650/25500/26700 batteries and maybe high end 18650,s like redilast, aw's and Panasonic's 3100's as an example. but 1.5 amp is good for a 4000 + mAh 26650 li-ion cell.

Here is how i charge my 26650's with my Icharger 106b+ i can charge 1 through to 6 at a time and i balance charge them like my lipo,s and 18650,s, but i only have 3 x 26650,s right now with more on the way.

DArn it, I have a hyperion EOS0606i that I intend using, however I have no idea how to find the correct pin outs for the balance cable, so I'm stuck charging 1 battery at a time

Well you will need hyperion balance leads if thats what you intest on doing ? but hyperions leads are rare or not cheap, what i would do is buy one of these

Then just buy the cheap JST-XH balance leads from 2s to 6s depending on how many you want to charge at one time and pick your magnets or battery holders, for 4 or more batteries at one time you want the long leads.

Appreciate your detailed reply mate, I had already bookmarked and pinched all the photos out of your balance charging thread the other thread has some good info, in terms of the black balance leads, where do they attach between cells? To the magnet or on the cells themselves?

Have the hyperion balance adapter here, never even thought about changing it and buying the JST-XH leads makes it much easier than trying to find pin-outs!

yeah to the magnets then the magents go inbetween the cells and hold them together, i used 8 x 8 rea eath magnets they solder ok with a 70 watt solder iron, just dont let them bang to hard together as they will chip,

Yeah just plug the jst-xh leads straight in, they are more common and cheaper too.

I graphed the charging algo here:

Overall, it's a decent charger but never seems to stop charging so definitely not a safe one (even if the residual charge rate is very low). Not recommended for novices and even advanced hobbyists should use with care.

So they are just like most cheap chargers that ovewr charge by the looks and i quess the safest option would be to use the protected trustfire 26650 batteries or balance charge them like i do

The Xtar WP2 II charges the King Kong unprotected 26650 just fine with the addition of a magnet on top to make contact. Mine cuts off charging at 4.19v each time.

The Xtar WP2 II i gave to a family friend cuts out around 4.22 not bad also depends on the cell, some of the other trustfires and solaforce chargers are around 4.23 and my old mans imax b6 over charger's.

Ill test the TR-005 when it gets here and see if its with in a safe range before i hand it over as the above test is not to bad to me as a midrange user and it could of just been a one off.

HG-106LIX Lithium Battery Charger For 26650/18650 - $4.00 http://www.cnqualitygoods.com/goods.php?id=1546

18650 / 26650 1A Rapid Charger Kit - $8.50 http://www.cnqualitygoods.com/goods.php?id=1331

The 2nd one looks suspiciously similar to the ML-102 sold by IOS. Bit more expensive, but it apparently includes a wall-wart?

The second one is a Miller ML-103 which has a power supply port instead of the mini USB port. It comes with a power supply.

Im testing a TR-005 26650 battery charger all seam good sofar after days testing. Ill do a thread once im done.

Ive done a reveiw of the 1.5 amp Tr-005 26650 charger here:

https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/8049

Another option, if it is 1 amp per bay it would be good, if it is 1 amp in total (0.5 amp a bay) it still would be a lot quicker to use the single bay charger i reviewed and linked above.

TrustFire Dual Channel Li-ion Battery Charger For 26650/25500/26700/18650/16340 - TR006 (US Plug)

At lest it too has a common power cord easy for us Aussie's to swap out, same for the guys in Europe And it looks like it has a female plug on the side for 12 volt cigarette lighter.

So approximately what's the charge time of a 26650 5000mAh @1A and @1.5A?

Aprox 5 hours @ 1.5 amp, but this will depend on how low you have drained the cell.
