2AA LedLenser P6 clone? -edit: Stay away

Hi my name is AAx3 and I have a problem ... oh wait, sorry, wrong forum... starting over...

Sipik_sk68clone, 2AA_LedLenserP6?clone, 2AA_MiniMaglite.

Hi everybody, I got this 2x AA clone of what appears to be a LedLenser P6 clone, and which was supposed to be a CREE 3-Mode zoomy with Hi/Low/Strobe. Turns out it is only Single Mode, Not CREE, and light output is lower than the Led in my keychain button cell. Can you tell from the picture what type of LED it is? I've seen lots of pictures here and in CPF, and this looks like one of the non-cree "high power led's", doesn't look like a luxeon or osram golden dragon(in original LedLenser), but the pathetic light output is that of a 50year old LED, which leads me to believe the driver is burnt.

edit: Appears to be a scam from a US ebay seller with several names, listing this as CREE/3-Modes under various listings for $8-$20. My $2 "Police" light is brighter on 1AA.

Maybe it's just a direct drive light? With 2.4V from two NiMH's you can't expect any good output, probably it's targeted at 1.5V alkalines?

I didn't know enough about drivers to suspect this might be the case. I've used 2 new energizer alkalines and 2 charged eneloops, same weak "moonlight". So after your comment, I used a wire to connect 3 eneloops and voila, light became almost as bright as my other 1 AA sk68 clone. Now the main question is, why would the manufacturer put a light that takes 3.6v and a direct drive driver in a 2AA flashlight that won't even work on 2 new alkalines? Could it be what I originally suspected, that the driver is toast? like I said earlier, I still don't want to disassemble the driver from the pill untill I get all my other orders in, so I don't have pictures of the driver innards yet.

Going back to original question, does anyone know anything about this LED pictured? and since I now know it works only on 3x AA, and there are no extenders for the third AA battery, it occurred to me maybe I can graft my other de-domed/de-led sipik sk68's boost driver into this flashlight. problem is, the sk68 driver appears to be 15.5mm and the ledlenser clone's driver is about 14.5mm, and I wouldn't know what would be safe to file off. :) or maybe the better option would be to graft the ledlenser's smaller LED star into the dedomed sk68 to get a 2nd working sk68.

I started out looking for a cree dropin for my couple of mini maglites, and ended up ordering a few niteize (disappointed) and later thought for the price of a terralux cree dropin, I can get a couple of ultrafire c3's, so I ordered a couple, and then a few sipik sk68 clones, then the ledlenser clone, then a few other AA 3mode zoomies, then a couple of 18650 3mode zoomies, etc etc, most of which are still swimming across the pacific as I sit here wondering what have I got myself into. :)

I don't know if there is anything to ID, besides that it might be a standard Chinese emitter. It doesn't resemble any high power branded emitter that I know of... so don't hold your breath waiting for exact specifications.

^ At first I thought the "standard chinese emitter" was taken to mean the antique 5mm LEDs in the coin-size keychain lights, as opposed to the CREE-type high-power-LEDs like CREE/Osram/SSC/Luxeon/Nichia etc. But today I received another sk68 clone and a "Police" 2AA to use as the extension tube, and I finally see what you mean. This "Police" extension tube's LED is the exact same LED as the one in the LedLenser clone, however, it is much much brighter then the one pictured in my first post, so it must be a problem with the first driver pictured. Question kindof solved, and learned something new, this "standard chinese emitter" sits in between the 5mm LEDs and the CREE-type LEDs.

On another note, I now have 2 different sk68s and tried them both with the extension tube, and to my surprise, both of them were equally bright on 1AA or 2AA, which shows its boost circuit is really well regulated. So does this mean the sk68 will not benefit from 14500 3.6v if it is so efficient in boosting a 1.2v nimh? BTW, I'm still waiting on some 18650s and 4 more lights from across the pond... must resist the P60 dropin for the minimag... or an XM-L for this LedLenser clone... is it doable? ... I don't want to know... :)

What is this emitter ...?

I'd like a real answer to this question too .

If the emitter with two connections on either side like is in the 2.~4$ ebay light / powerlight etc ...Is commonly called a chinese emitter ...

lets get more specific ..what are they really ?

I have (briefly) experienced the misery of ownership of this light, twice.

The first example fired up with alkaleaks, but was dim. In went the Eneloops, and the light went ANGRY BLUE, then POP !

I fired off an angry missive to the FleaBay vendor, as the description included full support for rechargeable cells. He responded, and sent me another light; this one was 'guaranteed' to work as described.

Click - BLUE - POP !

The dead light joined his fallen brother in the parts bin. I haven't wasted any more time on them.

And yet you have so many dead and worthless lights I wish i had …until i spent money on them …thanks for all your kind offers to ship blown up junklights around the states …I think we all just want one that works and works well .Some of which may never happen until about 3 times what they are worth is spent on them …still they look pretty in the pictures and we all will never be accused of those that do not have hope .

:P i like the looks of it ..i like it in principal

Offer still stands on these. I have newer lights to blow up.
