LED strip

I am looking for a cheap but bright 1m led strip (red or blue) to achieve indirect "mood" lightening behind some shelves. I was looking on ebay and there a generally two tipes of this led strips:

Which are brighter? Also I read some of the led strips lasts up to 5000 hours, which is way too short for my ussage. Can you recomend any good (has to be bright and last at least 30000 hours) that is also cheap - sub 10$?

Thank you!

Just be sure to NOT order anything that plugs to 230VAC without a real valid CE! Otherwise the package will not import. (po domače: te bo jebala tržna inšpekcija z neskladnostjo z EU zakonodajo) In English: The lack of EU conformity will block the import and the goods will go destroyed.

I was thinking something like this should be ok to power 2 x 1m of led strip: http://cgi.ebay.com/12V-5V-AC-Adapter-Power-Supply-HDD-HARD-DISK-DRIVE-IDE-/260491050625?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3ca679fe81

SIcer sem že naročil eno pištolo za lepilo, ki laufa na 230V iz DX, pa ni blo problemov (I already had ordered glue gun from DX that is powered from 230V AC and there where no problems with costums). Maybe I was lucky ...

Probably lucky. I believe that thing will not do the trick. You lack current regulation. Since it is powered at 12VDC that suggest that they are wired 4 in series (4x3V per led reasoning) and then the 4-stack in parallel antoher 6 times.

The thing will require something around 6x 80mA total=480mA (4x20mA per single led). So you better try a regulated 12V 500mA adapter! Otherwise it will smoke pretty soon i think. I'm not much of an expert but i believe there is some truth in my reasoning. Let's ask the real experts which lurks here often. ;)

Foreign language addon: Da ne boš kej skuril. :) Bulše ku zapalit hišni regal. Tiste hot glue gun ti mečejo v hrbet za enak denar v OBI-jih, merkurjih, šparih, leclerk.... :D

You are probably right... How about if I buy 4 strips - 4x0,5A and connect them together - will than the 2A power supply with no ocurrent regulation be ok?

Those 2A are probably regulated and that should work.

Btw! Why don't you get these? http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/3meter-30led-bluecolor-holiday-string-lights-3xaa-p-76

For the little times you need that.

I think these ones are not bright enough (power from 3xAA) + I will probably keep them on all the time + strip almost needs to be adhesive - to stick to the back of the shelfes. Otherwise these ones from manafont are increadibly cheap per m...

Or you can try get for a beer an adapter for T-2 ip-phones from a technician. ;) 12V-1000mA almost free if you have the technicians around. :)

OK so in the end I bought something similar to this: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.23843 ofrom ebay for 6$ just because my mum bought the same lights from local store for something like 15€ and I really like them - pretty bright. Are this lights dimmable of 220V?

Lol this guy here: http://hdhl.de/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=11&Itemid=14 went a little crazy with those cristmas lights :)

Beware, that mine from lightake were denied the import for safety reasons. Remember where are you from. :)

Foreign language addon: Jih maš v merkatorju po 9 eur in je boljše kot se jebat s carino, žal... bil tudi na tržnem inšpektoratu in so me hoteli še zezat za morebitno delo na črno... ne priporočam.

Our costums really sucks! To pa je bedno, sicer čisto razumem zakaj naj bi bile nevarne - laufa direktno iz 230V.
