Westinghouse 3.2v AA LifePo4

There was talk about these cells on the other side......so i picked up a pack from Walmart- 10 bones for a pack of 4. Found them in the garden section where they keep the solar lights. They seem to work well with single celled lights and it makes my RiverRock 1watt brighter as if it had new life. I used to have an AW cell in there but for long runs the light would get warm quick. The pic is not mine, snipped from the other side, for more info on the cell there is talk about it on the other side. http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=263630#post3297738

This might be a cheaper alternative to getting cells online.

Thanks for the tip! Those aren't LSD cells though?

The self discharge of lithium cells is pretty low, these lithium iron phosphate cells, unlike the more common lithium cobalt cells, don't explode if overcharged. You do have to watch the voltage though, some lithium chargers won't cope with a cell which is fully charged at 3.6V instead of 4.2. These seem to be designed for use in solar charged garden lights which may involve massive overcharging. Conventional lithium cobalt cells would quite rapidly go boom under such treatment.

These are lower in total capacity (in watt hours) than an Eneloop by about 25% but are much lighter and have a higher voltage - the trade off then is the usual brightness vs. runtime. However these are much safer than the lithium cobalt cells which have several amusing ways of showing their distress.

Well you guys know how the other side can be.....all this talk about something so one must feel that they must get it. Since it was a battery i figured it was something that i could use, less of a want if you guys understand. And Mr. Admin, were you able to find a charger and batts or is the hunt for them still on.

I'm still looking, I'm just behind on everything since my internet went down for 5 days. I think I'll probably get:

Thats a good choice right there....and the charger stops charging so i take it theres no trickle charging, and you really cant do any better then Eneloops. I have had my set for years and they have been abused, used, dropped, abused some more and they keep going. If i remember correctly the last time i did an R/A i got into the upper 1800-1900 mah.

That charger will take up to 16 hours to charge a fully discharged pair of Eneloops - it looks like it is a charge in pairs charger. Quick I'd say it isn't but as long as it doesn't cook your cells it'll be fine. If the cells become too hot to touch, they are being damaged by the charger. The first couple of charges I'd keep a close eye on the cell temperatures just in case. Looks like a gentle charger but I'd stick it on a timer so it cuts off after 16 hours just to be on the safe side. Leaving cells on a charger "so they are always ready to go" is a good way to kill them.

Oh, and avoid BTY branded stuff. http://dansdata.blogsome.com/2010/03/01/dont-buy-bty-batteries/

Yes it is going to take a long time........200mah for the output. I was taking a look at those cells because of the price, sure glad i didnt get them.
