[♛ FreemeGB] ASTROLUX FT03 XHP50.2 (3V) 4300lm 735m 26650/ 21700/ 18650 Flashlight - SHIPPED!

interested in 1 or 2 NW.

Keen!

In for one FT03 XHP50.2.

Let’s see if I understand correctly, the XHP50.2 may have around similar lumens as the SST40, but will have a bit more floody (but smoother) beam pattern than the SST40. Also XHP50.2 may (or may not) have a nicer tint than the SST40?

SST40 at low brightness levels will look a bit yellow/greenish.
XHP50.2 beam tends to have a hotspot that’s cooler and a corona/spill area that’s somewhat warmer.

thank you freeme for my dream

i will collect 50.2 cool white

The 50.2 is over double the lumens of what the SST40 can do because it’s a bigger led.
SST40 die is 2mm x 2mm = 4mm2
Xhp50.2 die is 2.94mm x 2.94mm = 8.64mm2.

The smaller die size of the SST40 means it has a narrower beam angle which makes a smaller hot spot and has longer throw.

The 50.2 has much more lumens (making the spill light brighter), but the extra brightness does not compensate enough to give similar throw. It has less throw distance.

The tint on the 50.2 and 70.2 are always a bit wierd due to their flip chip design. Their coronas are always yellow compared to the hot spot.

The older xhp50 had the same color hot spot and corona which looked nicer, but they had a pronounced donut hole beam pattern in SMO reflectors.

So the 50.2 has the weird yellow corona, but at least the hot spot looks smoother with a SMO reflector. It’s the better trade off. I don’t notice the yellow corona much any more.

I can’t comment on the SST40 tint. I don’t have one.

Will the runtime be the same as the SST40 version?

No, worse runtime.

I don’t know, this is a question of efficiency. If we pick a specific brightness level, like 500 lumen, I’m not sure which will run longer. The 50.2 is 4 x XP-G3 so maybe they will run more efficiently.

On Turbo, the bigger 50.2 will suck up the juice much faster.

About when is the 50.2 going to be available?

I should have asked which will be more efficient at 1000 Lumen.

Interested for NW

Just a rough answer, the SST40 might pull 3.5A at 1000 lumen OTF, while the 50.2 might pull 3A. So it looks like the 50.2 will be a bit more efficient at 1000 lumen.

One thing to consider, the SST-40 will probably look brighter at 1000 lumen than the 50.2 at 1000 lumen because the light will be focused to a smaller hotspot and look more intense. The 50.2 will spread it’s 1000 lumens over a bigger area making it look less intense.

I noticed this when dealing with similar sized lights using the 50.2 and the 70.2. I like 1000 lumen when walking around with the 70.2, but the 50.2 looks just as bright at 600 lumen. It’s about the intensity difference. Since I don’t mind the smaller hotspot, I tend to use the 50.2 at the lower level and get the benefits of less heat and longer battery life.

Thank you for the explanation. By the looks of it, I think I will wait for the 50.2 version rather than getting the SST40 now. Quick question about the throw difference though. What’s the % in throw difference ?

The 50.2 will have 33% less throw than the sst40.

There is a video a page back showing this.

Do you mean both lights maxed out?
The SST-40 should throw farther.

Do you mean with both lights at 1000 lumen? The SST-40 will throw further for sure.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. It shows both lights maxed out.

SST-40 = 900 meters
50.2 = 730 meters

In you go by distance and not candela, the 50.2 has about 19% less throw. Or the SST-40 has about 23% more throw.

Keep in mind these throw numbers vary based on the battery used and how they are measured.

Thank you!

i prefer
left hand SST40
right hand XHP50.2 3v
win-win hahaha
