this new light fits nicely in one hand

Looks like a Sofirn SC31 with the short 18350 battery tube from Sofirn SP40. :-)

Is this really a new light Barry? ;-)

Maybe I should try to play LEGO with some SP32A V2, SP31 V2 and SC31 lights.

You got it! SC31’s head, 18350 tube from SP40, SP32A V2’s tail. Then you have a rechargeable powerful EDC light!

‘powerful’ - i would not say that with 18350… but that’s just me…

i get annoyed how the 18650 gets better and better, but the 16340 and 18350 seem mired in 5 year old designs
half the size, 1/4 the energy

wle

Both the 18350 and 16340 got significantly better last year (among others,Vapcell is selling them). Although they still do not have the power density of major brand 18650’s there is movement!

I would buy one of those!

OOOHH… I like it!

It doesn’t bother me at all that it’s configured from parts of other Sofirn lights. Sell it! :face_with_monocle: :+1:

Vapcell mentioned in HKJ's review thread of their 16340:

So maybe the future isn't quite so bleak for 16340 and even moreso 18350.

What technology do you see getting better and better with the 18650? I’ve seen the 18350 get better with the 1100mAh cells from Aspire, Vapcell, Keepower, etc… And where ever Vapcell is getting the 800mAh 16340’s is a nice improvement as well. I’ve not seen much if any improvement with the 18650 cell over the last several years.

The button design of the SC31 is unattractive

It is not my favourite either. It works well though, the feel is good and it is a solid way to design a side switch.

I kind of like it.

I like it. It’s got a Fallout look to it.

Looks okay, but function is what hooks me.

How would it operate?

What would be the outputs and run times?

What? 18350 can get 1100mAh?

It lose runtime for easier to carry. Almost the same cost as SC31 now.

I don’t know people think it worth. But I prefer a smaller 900-1000LM EDC light in pocket and use once a while, 1-3 minutes illumination a time. And I can recharge it any time.

How do you think?

I’d like this light. At a reasonable price (~20$) and with the right UI (click ON, click OFF, not long click) - I’m sold!

Much prefer a smaller light albeit less runtime; but as you said, quick top up w/ onboard charging.

My go to light has just 3 modes at 60, 180 and 320 lumens. Does what is needed when up close work, and then some when outside walking about. It’s custom made 14500 light w/ LH351D - 5000º K

Yes.

@Barry, make this light with the LH351D 90CRI.

And yes, there are 1100mAh 18350s now.

I like the short SC31 too but I like it better if the short battery tube is fully knurled instead of just a small section.

Barry, if this implies that a new batch of SC31 is made, can you do a small change in the user interface? : when the light is off, a long press goes to the lowest mode (instead of breathing switch light). For the breathing switch: triple click on/off with memory.

This would be better for many people here.

A good UI and eventually a shorter overal body would be great!
I use my SP32A with a convoy short tube and the UI (not starting in moonlight mode but still having memory function as the SP10A/B) is the only thing that makes me not use it as much as I’d like!
So, make a right choice and shorter body and you’ll have a nice light!
EDIT: make it triple!

I actually changed the LED in my sc31 to an sst-20. It’s OK but I think I’m going to put a Luxion v2 in it next. They usually work pretty well where an XPG is used. I like the warmer tints anyway. Great little light with the 18350 tube. Really wish more 18500 lights were out there. I have a lot of 18500’s that are going to waste away.

Barry, how about making some 18500 universal tubes for the SC31, SP32 and SP31? I have about 15 of these lights all together and would buy a few. I think the 18500 makes for a great length for a lot of these types of lights for EDC. Plus you typically get a little better run times with the little bit of extra capacity.
