BLF Interest List: EX3 High Current Beryllium Copper Silver Plated springs - Still selling my springs :)

No problem then.

Will add you to the list.

List has been updated:

We are at:

751 large BeCu springs
650 small BeCu springs

Are you still ordering springs this week or are you going to wait for more participants?

Already ordered the springs.

The springs should start being manufactured this Monday.

I think two things are different for this GB:

1. I’ve already sold a lot of springs by now. So, I’ve saturated a large part of the market already probably. I’ve sold over 8000 springs, so, you can guess what happened.

2. Since the springs are quite a bit more expensive now, people are waiting for me to have the springs to take the risk and pledge in a certain amount.
I mean, they are over 50% more expensive than the 1st gen spring.

I’ve ordered the springs anyway even if we are only 1/2 there to 1500pcs each.

I need to push my skills to the max to prove the worth of these springs.

I also think the enthusiast part of the market has already been filled.

Not everybody can actually solder springs, or wants to.

Unlike LEDs, the improvement isn’t instantaneous, so reflowing new springs vs new LEDs is much less rewarding, even though I think good contacts are still very important.

I’m planning to start light modding services now that I’m experienced enough and have acquired enough materials and supplies now.

Excellent. Thank you for everything.

Sorry guys and gals for the delay, but rather than preparing+shipping multiple orders at once, I decided to prepare every non spring order in one go, and then ship everything in batches.

It makes things easier for me, and way less prone for me to make errors.

So, I’ll start shipping multiple orders this Tuesday, so everything can go as planned as quickly as possible.

No worries. Thanks for the update.

BlueSwordM last Sunday (23rd) you said the springs' manufacturing was due to start right that next Monday, a full week ago in a few hours. Any delays?

By the way, since the table doesn't lists 3500K SST-20s or 2nd generation springs I'll list here my stuff. If there's anything wrong please say so:

10 3rd gen big springs
06 3rd gen small springs
06 2nd gen big springs
04 2nd gen small springs
04 SST-20 4000K FD2
02 SST-20 3500K GA3

16 × gen3 springs: 16 × $0.46 = $7.36
10 × gen2 springs: 10 × $0.39 = $3.90
06 × SST-20 emitters: 6 × $1.55 = $9.30
Shipping and handling: $5
Grand total including a 5% fee namely for PayPal: $25.56 × 1.05 = $26.838 ≈ $26.84

Cheers :-)

There are no delays.

Springs take a long time to manufacture, especially in the quantities I order them in.

These are custom springs, not run of the mill springs.

And now with the multi-layer electroplating, it’s going to be even longer.

LEDs have started shipping.

Great!

oh boy oh boy!

That’s great news Blue, looking forward to trying the SST-20 FD2’s out. :+1:

Just a quick brief question, how much time until the springs fall in your hands BlueSwordM? And how much 'til they start being shipped? O:)

This is not to set you in a rush, it is just to have an idea of when will I be able to count on them, two are already allocated.

Cheers :-)

Well, I don’t know, as I haven’t received the usual pictures yet of the springs.
Will ask though.

Also, I’d like to tell people that full throttle shipping will begin this Friday, as I am currently in training for my new job, and it’s taking away from my precious shipping time. :frowning:

I was only able to ship to Pavlo/BobMcBob/Dlux/iamlucky13. I wanted to ship to more people, but couldn’t, as the post office was coming to a close.

Also, it seems like I’ll have to use a bit more of my engineering skills for the Gen 4 large springs.

I want them to be even more conductive than the Gen 3 large springs, as they’ll be my last update for the large springs before I completely change their design for a much more conductive one.

I’ll keep on making the small springs like before, as I can’t change much about them.

Finally, I hope I’ll be getting some pics of the springs soon. I’m excited for them to come.

TLDR: I need to make my BeCu springs the best of the best.

Nah, not a pure copper one.

It’s not the magical BeCu C17550 60% IACS, or the slightly more conductive 45% ICAS BeCu C17500/C17510.

It’s a different spring design altogether.

You see, close to my job, there is a spring manufacturer.
I decided to pay them a visit, ask some questions, and tell them about my springs.

To say the least, they were impressed that I made such advanced springs as power contacts, and suggested me some ideas+recommendations.

1. Make the copper plating thicker on the large spring, as it can be made a bit thicker than the current thickness without impacting mechanical properties.

2. Keep the inner coil for the top of the spring for the large one. Helps with contact resistance and denting contacts/cells.

3. Use a different design that was genius that I will not be speaking about for now.

4. Use tin plating for the phosphor bronze springs. Lower price, same performance.

5. Gold plating isn’t all that much better than silver due to the rather large surface area of the spring wire, but is still a non-negligible improvement.

6. Finally, the copper spring+steel spring combination is a bad idea. The copper spring will gradually lose height, and become ineffective.

I’m looking forward to seeing what the Gen 4 springs are like!
