Low freq PWM for Low and Medium on both correct?
Yes low frequency PWM on both low & medium modes on the v1 as far as I can tell.
I really like Lumintop flashlights. The tool aaa always comes on in medium mode and that is just too bright to use in the middle of the night if you have a wife or significant other. So I just save the tool aaa’s for emergencies. I have a Lumintop EDC 05 that I use in the middle of the night. I have the one with a natural tint. At 2 lumens on the lowest setting I usually do not bother my wife. I just have not gotten around to see how the Lumintop Tool AA does on evening walks but I will soon.
I received the Tool AA v2.0 from Lumintop for review but I wanted to use it before I wrote my review. However, just to address the ongoing comments here:
1. The AA v2.0 goes L-M-H-T. It even has the strobe function but that’s hidden. You’d require 6 soft clicks of the tailcap clicky to get to Strobe mode.
2. I find the Low mode a little too bright but for things like dog walking, it’s perfect. Wish it had a moonlight mode somehow.
3. It has mode memory and I dislike that function. It’s not just Lumintop. I dislike that function across all my lights.
Checks out with my experience with the TAA 2.0. Always ascending mode distribution, mode memory, hidden strobe (that I still manage to activate regularly :confounded: ), and the Tool AAA’s brighter-than-moonlight lowest mode.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake. This light DOES NOT have mode memory. I just clicked through the modes too quickly previously.
The bright low mode still gets to me but I honestly think this light is made to be Xmas gifts for our non flashaholic friends. They will probably use it as a single mode light and the low mode is pretty darn good for most situations. Also, the diffuser and the magnetic tailcap option is lovely for a car light.
I appreciate the review after 3 years.
I would like to see more such reviews after longterm use.
That’s a strong recommendation, better than the “new flashlight of the week” marketing we are seeing a lot.

Has anyone reviewed this light since they switched to the checkerboard lens? I was going to buy this light (as I have the Lumintop Tool AA) and changed my mind after I saw this change. I would think the light output is going to be completely different after this change and I’m not entirely sure I would like it. Would love to a comparison with this new one and the old one.

imo the TiR Tool has a very nice floody, smooth beam, no hotspot, good for a hatlamp to see things in my hands with a larger field of close range illumination, than the reflector Tool, that has a hotspot plus spill.
If you have not tried any TiR beams, and if you use your light at close range, imo the TiR Tool is worth a try, if you are open to a floody beam with no defined hotspot and spill.
for close range (within arms reach), and when using a light on my hat indoors, I like floody beams because they dont need to be moved around as much as a hotspot beam, that tends to be too bright in the middle, and too dim on the sides.

I picked up a tool aaa on the recent vipon deal, quality light for under $10. For me the tint is a bit cool but very bright for a single aaa. I’ve traditionally key chain carried a preon p1 that is closer to neutral but the tool feels quality and the beam was pretty tight with no pronounced hotspot due to the lens change you’re referring to. Also, I’ve run 10440 in the preon for many many years now without issue, so rolled the dice and I tried 10440 in the lumintop…quite a difference initially (as there should be) but I’m pretty sure I did damage, saw a quick bright flash, now upon click I get intermittent power with either aaa or 10440. It’s a very nice compact piece, I recommend, especially for the muggles, but personally I cant shake the disappointment of having to use traditional cells.

fwiw, I dont use traditional cells in my AAA lights, I use Eneloops, so I enjoy being able to recharge, without fear of flames nor burned muggles fingers 
Im not a fan of cool white low cri LEDs, I see Cool White lights as hosts for LED swaps…
jon_slider, you talked me into it. Just ordered it. That made a lot of sense about the light when used on a hat. Looks like they are no longer selling it with magnetic tail cap addon. At least I didn’t see it anywhere on Amazon. Thanks for the comments.

I dont like magnets on my lights, I do like to put magnets where I want to put a light sometimes. For example, I have a VW Camper and it has several magnets that live on the walls of the van, so I can put a light there when I want to, without having to keep a magnetic light in my pocket.

jon_slider. You did not lead me astray dude! Got the light and love it. It has a nice uniform beam with no hot spot. For searching for spiders in my garage of using it on a hat to work on something, I really like it. When you talked about the uniform beam while using on a hat, you sold me right there. It’s works exactly as you said. This may just be my my new favorite AAA light. If I wouldn’t have read you comments on it, I would have most likely skipped this light cause the checkerboard lens thing made me think weird thoughts about the light, lol. I already had the Lumintop Tool AA light so now I have him and his little brother.

I recently got a AAA Tool via a Vipon 50% coupon applied to my Amazon order. I initially liked the light, even though it starts in medium (I prefer low or having last-mode memory), but I knew the junk clip (in my opinion) had to go since it didn’t allow for deeper carry or thicker pockets. I installed a clip from a Streamlight Stylus Pro, and now the Tool carries deeper in my pocket and secures to thicker pockets. I now love the light! 
BTW, I also got the AA Tool, and I installed on it the clip from an older ThruNite T10, so I also love the AA Tool now.
Does anyone know how long will I run mine if I used 2500mah nimh? Do their charts use the eneloop pro 2500 ones?
How long will it run though in a 1000mah nimh? The batteries used by lumintop were not indicated in their tests. Thanks.
