What did you mod today?

A D4 “white”, that has been de-anodized. Then metal polished, as much as my patience could take

XP-L HI V2-3A 5000K emitters in that shiny little beast.

Sharp!

It’s on Lexel’s updated driver picture that he recently posted. Just pm him for a quote on a 22mm FET+6+1 driver with Anduril. I simply soldered a small phosfor-bronze spring to the driver. When it’s fully compressed it sits a tiny bit higher than the AMC chips. Then I soldered the switch and LED wires and the driver dropped in perfectly. The tube sits on the driver ground ring with space to spare and the cell is basically a hair’s width above the AMC chips that sits on the spring side of the driver. No spacers were required for the cap to close completely. I highly recommend this mod to anyone with a D4. Oh, and I requested that he should preprogram the firmware so that max ramp is already at max AMC current. I tested it and it measured 2.46A at the tail…… So it has a fully regulated ramp that is quite bright depending on which LED’s you use obviously.

Customized a holster for my FW3A. LINK.

Led swap nichia C to nichia B 4500k R9080

Swapped a white flat into a Foybezeled C8+.
Centering is difficult, i still have artifacts.
Also i sanded down the sides of the reflector since it touched the Led wires and tried different sanded down gaskets.
The focus is not optimal yet, i think the gasket needs a bit more sanding.

Measured 180 Kcd at 2,8A

Yeah smaller emitters are more sensitive to every little focus adjustment.

That’s an impressive result, I only managed to get 160kCd with 4.5A in a C8…
At what distance did you measured it ?

My C8 with dedomed XP-G2 S4 2B did 170 kcd so the White Flat may get you 200. But it must be emphasized that these 1mm2 dies are extremely finicky with centering and focussing, i.e. it pays off if you spend an hour or more on sanding/reaming/cutting centering pieces, however insignificant such a tiny piece of plastic seems to be. And even then if a corner of the led forces itself a bit into the plastic during tightening of the bezel, you are off again. Also make sure that the reflector is completely free from touching ledwires, even the silicon mantle, it will force the reflector in one direction, a tiny bit is enough to ruin your focus.

I need a little driver advise please.
I’m planning a build with a light that resembles a maglight in form factor (SA police light). I have a roughly 36mm diameter cavity for a driver and I’m going to try run 2/3 18650’s in parallel (with battery tube mods) with a tailswitch, my plan is to set up 3 or 4 separate triple sst20/xpl-hi’s with 10507 or a similar optic all on a press fit copper “shelf”. I’ve already ground an aluminium spacer and press fitted it to give the head more thermal mass (this created a reasonably level shelf, the copper will work as a spacer with more heat sinking so the optic height is correct, hopefully).
What driver could adequately drive 9 xpl-hi’s pretty hard, I’m not too fussed about fancy UI just 4/5 modes with the tail clicky. I guess I’ll use the tailswitch from an S2+ or BLF A6 I have lying around, if it’s up to the task?
It’s a budget build, the host was salvaged a bit so nothing fancy just want it to have reasonable power.

I’ve measured it at just 3m so that might not be completeley fair, but i was just curious to see what kind of results to expect.

I think i can gain a littlebit more by centering and adjusting the height of the gasket.
Is anyone selling 3030 gaskets except INTL-Outdoor ?

EDIT

Some more delicate wet sanding of the gasket and after an hour of centering i get a nearly perfect spot and i measure 20770 Lx at 3 m and 4130 Lx at 7 m which equals 187 kCd at 3 m and 202 kCd at 7 m which is impressive given the low lumen output.

I don’t think so.

If you have one of those 3535 gaskets that fits in the reflector and has a square hole for the led, you can cut new 3030 corners 45 degrees rotated from the 3535 corners. That is how I solved the 3030 led problem a few times already.

Not today but two days ago.

Put Nichia optisolis from Clemence into this tiny stainless stuff

Nice! Is that an array of 4 x Optisolis or one?

It’s a single LED.
The kit was supposed to be used on Jetbeam Mk1 (Jetusolis).

The beam must be ultra-smooth

I have a few of what I would call “flashlight crumbs” I would like to give to someone in the USA. There are a couple of new drivers I’ve just never used, some medium/large reflectors, and the mcpcb loaded with xhp70.2 that are probly mostly working out of my imalent dx80. Just post your I’ll take it here and then message me your address. All of it it is going together in one box to one person, if that person wants to regift any of it that is their business

Wish I was in the US VoB

I shaved a 3000K LH351D (a LOT, might have even taken a hair off the phosphor on one small section) in a BLF A6.

Here was my old post with the dome on:

That’s awful kind of you, VOB. What kind of drivers are we talking?
