Fully Charged Battery in 30 min? XTAR New Released ST2 Can do that for you

July 4th, 2019. XTAR launched its brand-new ST2 fast charger, capable of charging via the Type-C cable on the go. As the latest 2-slot quick charger of fast charging series, ST2 provides a unique experience of charging 2 Li-ion batteries separately and performs a maximum output of 4,100mA in 2-slot. It only takes 30 minutes to fully charged of a 2000mAh battery.

The LCD screen can display a real-time information of Battery’s Status, Internal Resistance, Charging Current, Battery Voltage, Charged Capacity and Temperature of battery. The specially designed Type-C input is available to support PD2.0 and QC3.0 protocols, compatible with various adapters to ensure endless power supply.

XTAR ST2 battery charger can enable an automatic detection of battery internal resistance and automatic selection of the appropriate charging current for the battery when it is being insert into the slot. It compatible with 3.6V/3.7V Li-ion/IMR/INR/ICR 18650, 20700, 21700, 22650, 26650 batteries. The Built-in high-precision MCU ensure that the cut-off voltage is always within safe limits to extend the lifespan of the batteries, which is safe and worry-free.

The Multiple protections ensure safe charging, built-in protection system can effectively prevent anti-short circuiting and reverse polarity protection, overtime charging protection, over-discharged Li-ion battery activation and over-discharged, combined with XTAR’s original soft-start function, making charging safer.

Bit of a clickbait title considering the #1 factor for healthy charge speed is the battery, not the charger. i can’t imagine 4A being good for a 2000mAh cell

Looks like a nice charger though.

That looks like an Xtar Over Four slim.

Without the mains adapter and USB out ports.

4100mA Charge current and 2000mAh battery does not mean it charges in 30 minutes
at the end of charge the battery gets charged in CV with current going down slowly until termination
you may get 80-90% but not full

It is even faster, Fully Charged in 10 Minutes if you put a 700mAh Crapfire in there.

Is it unintentional coincidence that this charger is being presented on Independence Day? :-D

ROFLMAO!!

I really like seeing flashlights and chargers adopt USB-C. I hope the trend speeds up and we see more devices soon.

Is that smoke I see in the first photo?

OMG!!! :O See that smoke venting out of the battery terminals? }) They probably fried some rewrapped Doolidoodaaa cells with 4.1 amps. :-D

OTOH, maybe they just wanted to advertise this charger to heavy vapers and white smoke just looked like the right thing... 8^)

Did anyone bother to notify Tesla about this?

Perhaps they can make some improvements to it and have it fully re-charge the car in 15 minutes? :person_facepalming:

Tesla model 3’s, when using a super charger or other 250kW charging station already charge at the rediculous rate of 15 miles of range gained back per minute.
10 min of charging will drive you 150 miles!

Charging speed is not determined by output amps but C rating, so this is technically false advertising. Even more so considering the math behind 30 minutes completely skips the CV phase.

and for 100 Testlas charging at the same time you need to build a new medium-sized coal power plant
electrical cars are with today’s battery technology an economical and ecological disaster

In some countries without heavy regulations the power companies will always go for the cheapest way to generate the electricity, along with the waste created by lithium cell production they’re probably not so much greener after all. At least for the time being.

My country gets the power from hydro and on dry seasons there are regulations for turning off the central AC and large luminous signs for small and large business for hours each day. I can’t imagine how would that work if we add a considerable amount of electric cars each capable of drawing the same power as several households. Electric cars are imported 100% tax free and there are already more charging stations than Teslas cars in the city thanks to corporations trying to look “green”. I suppose it won’t take long until the government steps in and add even more free charging stations.

People tend to view electric power as unlimited and sustainable, and everything that looks Smokey bad and harmful, including steam. The media sold it well I guess.

@ will34:
And to think of the infrastructures that’ll have to be beefed up.
There is a push to build with renewables, and that is applaudable. The transport and substations, the delivery of 3 phase 550 / 600 (440 / 480 US) volt to new locations as parking areas and residentials, that will be an undertaking. The grids are built for the present demands; these will need to increase exponentially.
Say hello to brownouts…

And to extend the lifespan of the batteries, charging a 2Ah cell with 4.1A current is probably not such a great idea.

The marketing leaves questions:

4,100 mA in two slots - would that be 2.1 A per slot?
Claim of fast charging a 2000 mAh battery in 30 minutes but (fuzzy) pictured 2600mAh cell*.
Second photo of a 4200mAh cell (presumably a 21700) not in charger with display results - ‘100%’ states nothing of charge rate (can’t make out the rest of LCD).

Xtar makes some good chargers, re-think your marketing.

  • Perhaps they meant charging 2000mAh into a 2600mAh cell takes 30 minutes?

According to specs on their website, it can do 2*4.1A.

They’re probably assuming the cell isn’t fully depleted to begin with, but maybe at some 30% at the start of charging? But without stating it as such, yeah, that’s some shady advertising. I’d expect better from XTAR.
