Tesla model 3’s, when using a super charger or other 250kW charging station already charge at the rediculous rate of 15 miles of range gained back per minute.
10 min of charging will drive you 150 miles!

Charging speed is not determined by output amps but C rating, so this is technically false advertising. Even more so considering the math behind 30 minutes completely skips the CV phase.

and for 100 Testlas charging at the same time you need to build a new medium-sized coal power plant

In some countries without heavy regulations the power companies will always go for the cheapest way to generate the electricity, along with the waste created by lithium cell production they’re probably not so much greener after all. At least for the time being.

My country gets the power from hydro and on dry seasons there are regulations for turning off the central AC and large luminous signs for small and large business for hours each day. I can’t imagine how would that work if we add a considerable amount of electric cars each capable of drawing the same power as several households. Electric cars are imported 100% tax free and there are already more charging stations than Teslas cars in the city thanks to corporations trying to look “green”. I suppose it won’t take long until the government steps in and add even more free charging stations.

People tend to view electric power as unlimited and sustainable, and everything that looks Smokey bad and harmful, including steam. The media sold it well I guess.

And to think of the infrastructures that’ll have to be beefed up.
There is a push to build with renewables, and that is applaudable. The transport and substations, the delivery of 3 phase 550 / 600 (440 / 480 US) volt to new locations as parking areas and residentials, that will be an undertaking. The grids are built for the present demands; these will need to increase exponentially.
Say hello to brownouts…

And to extend the lifespan of the batteries, charging a 2Ah cell with 4.1A current is probably not such a great idea.

The marketing leaves questions:

4,100 mA in two slots - would that be 2.1 A per slot?
Claim of fast charging a 2000 mAh battery in 30 minutes but (fuzzy) pictured 2600mAh cell*.
Second photo of a 4200mAh cell (presumably a 21700) not in charger with display results - ‘100%’ states nothing of charge rate (can’t make out the rest of LCD).

Xtar makes some good chargers, re-think your marketing.

According to specs on their website, it can do 2*4.1A.

They’re probably assuming the cell isn’t fully depleted to begin with, but maybe at some 30% at the start of charging? But without stating it as such, yeah, that’s some shady advertising. I’d expect better from XTAR.

High current also mean increases the battery internal temperature which can probably operating beyond the battery specification charge current. I’ve read that “heating” the battery too hard could potential have done some damage to battery and life cycle.

High current cell aren’t that cheap and you don’t definitly want something tearing off your battery.

That the first case, 2nd is when the charger charge li ion cell beyond 4.20v threshold and stay there for pro long time also one of the reason of why internal battery’s temperature to rise much higher than specs and worst of all, likely to harm battery life cycle.

I’ve also been seen that 3amps charge can push cell temperature up to 40 celcius which is still ok but for me pretty darn high. Now we have 4amp, wonder how that will look like… :smiling_imp:

Why not use even natural gas for that? If you want to use fossil fuels, use one that produces 50% of CO2 and other bad chemicals compared to coal.

Solar panels, biomass recycling, high altitude wind, heat recycling by using molten salts, etc.

We need to be smart, and be efficient.

Because there are few countries with anything like the renewable capacity for charging large numbers of electric vehicles. The UK is already looking at electricity shortages in the future, large EV use will make that worse.

You can see 4.1A indicated on both slots on the LCD display. And they also state “fully charge two 18650 cells in only 30 minutes”.

Yes, you are totally right that’s on the display.
But the display also states 100%.
But at 100% it won’t charge a 4.1A. So I wonder it’s just photoshopped for advertising reasons.

Some chargers just show the selected rate, not the actual current as it gets reduced during CV phase.
