which bin is used in the FT03?

Sorry, I’m not too familiar with Luminus bins.

Here is Djozz’s test on an average bin. This is not the highest bin and it’s also a bare LED on a power supply. Once inside a flashlight you get losses (maybe around 25%) that take that 2500 lumen down quite a bit.

I definitely would not imagine a bin change adding 600 lumen (from 2400 to 3000). Bottom line is that it’s a small led (2mm by 2mm die same as XM-L2 and XPL) and it’s output is limited. I’m curious to see if it’s output is higher than the FT03.

Remember that the FT03 was pushing the led pretty hard with high drain cells. People were concerned a high drain might burn it up. The FT04 has an even stronger battery setup. I think the smart battery to use is 3 high capacity cells like Samsung 35E as opposed to the stronger 30Q.

It’s still early days, though. We don’t know everything that has changed between the FT03 and FT04.

These are 3000 HaikeliteLumens. Easily doable with this LED.

I for sure dont, astrolux has their own design which is fine, now suddenly it looks like a HL light but with astrolux logo? and claims 3000 lumens is also not realistic … this is not good…

As M4D M4X said “the FT04 is a new Haikelight cooperation”

And i believe Astrolux is a Banggood brand that have/had products made by Manker, Mateminco and now Haikelight. So Astrolux changing designs is nothing new!
The 3000 lm is just the typical unrealistic bull

I would argue that the FT04 is worse for batteries you can only use 18650s the FT03 you can use 3 different cells 18650s, 21700, 26650s,. Sure 3 18650s has more capacity but its probably not needed using the SST40 if it was upgraded to the XHP50.2 it would be ideal.

No, it’s not using the same LED.

It’s using the SST-40 P2 LED found in the Amutorch thrower from zeroair’s review.

It’s probably going to be doing 2800 lumens at startup, so about 2500 lumens OTF.

From the pics, it looks like 3P for battery… So I’m not sure how that makes it more “stable” other than slower voltage drain.

From what I’ve gathered over the years:

Mateminco is an actual manufacturer. They do machining, assembly, etc…

Astrolux and Manker have had some of their lights machined (maybe assembled) by Mateminco in the past. I’m not sure who makes the Haikelites. They probably had some machined/assembled by Mateminco as well.

Astrolux, Manker and Haikelite are like the “designers”. They come up with the idea and design, driver type, what led to use, etc…

I think some companies can have the lights machined my Mateminco then assemble the different components themselves. Whatever is cheaper based on the resources they have.

There is a lot of variation and it’s pretty confusing, but it’s why we see such similarities between brands.

Also keep in mind that “Mateminco” is the name the manufacturer uses for themselves. I don’t think we know the actual manufacturers real company name. I’ve never heard it mentioned.

Anyway, I wish Astrolux would consult with BLF to see whats popular and desirable instead of consult with Haikelite. I don’t think Haikelite knows what people want.

Just my opinion on all the above. I wanted to get it off my chest.

Looking at the SST-40 datasheet, the bin structure and minimum flux lumen at 5A is so:

N2 1394
N3 1501
N4 1608
N5 1715
P2 1822

So in theory we should see an average of 200 more lumen, maybe 300 more at most when pushed to 9A-10A over the N4 used in the FT03. So hopefully we will see 2,000-2,100 lumen assuming reflector/lens, etc… efficiency is the same as the FT03.

The problem here is that they say the FT04 does not use a FET driver. They are saying it’s constant current. If true, no way will see 9A-10A. Maybe like 6A-7A at most. Who knows, maybe it will use a FET driver. It’s still early.

Also wondering why the UI has gone from Narsil to, well, garbage - I know obviously if it’s not ATtiny and FET then you’ve gotta make do with what you can, but….

The P2 emitter is the only interesting thing about this, for me. But others may find it better

Ok, now I want Astrolux to release a FT03 version with this super SST-40 LED, but with NW light! :smiling_imp:

It’s just a slightly higher bin. It’s not a difference you will see with your eyes. It will only be a difference that can be measured. No big whoop as far as I’m concerned.

P2 is only in 6500K, so those of us on the NW bandwagon are left behind :frowning:

Short name seems to be Tong Ming:

Dongguan Tongming Photoelectric Technology Co., LTD
Or
Dongguan Tongming Lighting Technology Co., Limited on alibaba.
And
DONG GUAN TONG MING Photoelectric technology Co., LTD

Okay, thanks. I would of bet it was in Shenzhen, but I was off by 50 miles.

Tongming only 50-100 employees. A bit smaller than I imagined.

Okay, so some notes - before I start, please don’t get me wrong; I appreciate everything you do for the community in helping us get great deals, this is just some feedback:

  • It’s frustrating that in the link via the image/s, quite a few things on that list can’t have the deal applied to them, due to already being Promo or on sale already - or the code just not working (ie. MF01S says “Coupon is only used in special collection list and valid on over the specific value.”)
  • “Extra” 30% off implies that it’s an additional 30% off whatever price they’re currently advertising - so if it’s a $100 light at 35% off already, I’d generally expect that to mean another 30% off, so it’d either be $35 (65% total) or $45.5 (100 down to 65, then 30% of the $65 taken off). I guess this comes down to nuances in language, though.

Again - please don’t take this as criticism against you, just observations

Edit:: Ah, just saw you posted the other details!
