ENDED.

Interesting 21700 X

Interested (again) in 21700.
Is there a XHP50.2 version? Did i miss something?

Which would surprise me because IMO I think this is maybe the best thrower out there that is still a managable size, a great compromise!

The reason for potentially not selling well has nothing to do with it’s performance or size. It might have had more to do with it’s somewhat high price. I think Freeme, or someone in the know, said the development costs for this light were quite high which is why the selling price was higher than the competition. Or at least higher than people were expecting. It probably is a great light.

Very interested, PM please

A reminder of why even the FT02 is a flashoholics light although it seems so muggle-friendly:

I recommended and bought an FT02 for a good collegue of mine who is a flashlight enthousiast and certainly is not stupid.

Now after 3 months of regular use (as he is living in a more remote area than Amsterdam, he actually uses his lights quite a lot) I got the light back from him with a broken-off micro-USB socket. The 40T battery that I got for him was at 1.84V.

It is known that micro-USB sockets tend to break off the circuit board when abused, and so did this one, but when inspecting the joint, there was not much solder used for the two main attachments.

And the 4 mA parasitic drain was slowly killing the cell, he did not have a habit of physically locking the light out by screwing the tailcap loose a bit (as it is nowhere recommended in the manual).

I managed to solder the socket back on the board, which was a true miracle by the way as the tiny connections were impossible to reach with my iron, and the heat gun threatened to disintegrate the entire driver before those joints melted. But I got it working again, with the socket a bit firmer in place than before.

I put a clear shrink-wrap around the battery to stop rattle and prevent some wear.

So he will get it back with extra instructions, to be gentle to the micro-USB socket and remind always to loosen the tail cap.

I wonder when it comes back again, with what new damage. :person_facepalming:

Freeme, may I suggest you add the word ENDED to the beginning of the original title instead of replacing the whole title with only one word. It will help a lot when users want to search for something.

Thanks!

I agree. Strange enough, in a search the original title came up so I wrote this post here because it was the most used FT02 thread. Then the thread appeared on the recent post page as “ENDED” :frowning:

New battery, right? Or was it at 2.84v?

No, just charged it up. It has not been at 1.84 V for months, probably just a week. I trust it to be fine.

Usually once lithium cell gets below it’s limit, like 2.5v, it will form crystals or some such in the chemical mix and then it will start to charge funny like going up to 4.1v and staying there and getting hotter and hotter.

I stop using any batteries that over discharge. I also use protected cells for any light I give to someone who doesn’t check cell voltage at each charge (like your friend).

Better to be safe than sorry, just saying.
