Will XHP50.2 3v work in Q8 with standard driver

Just ordered a Sor firm Q8 and I would like to upgrade the LEDs to XHP.2 3v. Is this possible without changing the driver?

Yes, absolutely.

Just make sure to upgrade the springs/bypass the springs to prevent the stock springs from melting.

Can you just reflow them on?

Or would it need a new board?

No, the board is wrong, the 5050 size XHP50.2 will not fit the stock 3535 board.
A replacement Q8 board with 5050 pads (and 4040 pads) can be ordered at lep4power.com. Using the new board also requires clamping down the board/reflector in a different way (will have to look up the link to a how-to), nothing complicated but it helps if you know it.

I know that Sofirn talked about making a Q8 version with XHP50.2 leds. I don’t know if that project has been cancelled.

Not really relevant to the topic, but the KDLITKER C8.2 with XHP50.2 is an excellent light. One of my favourites.

Back on topic, LED4Power sell an appropriate 5050 LED board for the Q8. You’ll need that to use XHP50.2’s in the Q8.

17000+ lumen’s on 20S batteries…

16,000+ lumens on VTC5A’s….

That’s awesome KB1428. Really hope Sofirn comes out with their own. I’d like to own a few.

+1

For a long time there was no news from them. There is a fear that they abandoned this project.

Yeah. Seems they cancled the Q8 with XHP50.2. Like the Q8 extension tubes. I had high hopes for the extension. I wanted to mod my Q8 with 50.2. I already have the LED4Power board here. But i wanted to wait for the tube extension to get enough runtime out of the light.
