Astrolux FT03 XHP50.2 Test

Nah it will be fine! My Littokala cells are just as high drain i think. So far no one has killed a SST40 by over amperage unless it was on the test bench. A bunch of us have killed many by trying to dedome them or even slicing the domes far more dangerous.

This is a beam shot only video. I am surprised how bright the S70 is with a resistor mod.

I bought some 3v XHP50.2 from Aliexpress any one used this seller before? Seems legit the MCPCBs looks like the ones used at Fasttech?
XHP50.2

I’ve been looking into them myself, probably from Cutter. Shame about the cold white on AE though. Planning on converting S11 to eswitch, just need to find appropriate driver….

Hello guys, I am new to this forum. I am into flashlights for some time, so I decided to join this forum to learn something new, and to share my experiences with you…

Speaking of astrolux ft03,I have a question. I bought ft03 with sst40 and decided to dedome it using slicing method. I am not quite satisfied, I liked it more with the dome on. I want to reflow new led. I am in dilemma between sst40 and xhp50.2 . What do you suggest based on your experiences with these leds in this flashlight ?? Thanks in advance

I got the xhp50 yesterday. It rocks. I can not believe the output and the throw.
Better throw than the Convoy L6 or the S70S
More PERCEIVED light than the Q8 or SP36

@Nitewalker, for absolute throw, the new SST-40 5000k dedomed would be your best option.

scosgt and BlueSwordM thank you guys for sharing your experience and opinion :+1:

but it doesnt hold up heat very well or ? atleast the l6 i can run turbo almost nonstop and its not that heavy when i touch the head… i think the ft03 is better have the sst40 version and u get better throw and less heat.

Heat is not the issue. The major issue would be battery drainage the FT03 would last less than half the time of the L6 or S70 at max brightness.

Is the 3v xhp50.2 a direct swap for the sst-40 version of ft03?

Yes it is. Xhp 50.2 also has same footprint as sst 40, so you can even reflow it to the existing mcpcb yourself, if you have sst 40 version

Is there a stateside vendor with competively priced FT03 with XHP50.2 ?

Newbe question: is there such a thing as an XHP70, and if it does exist, what would
The difference be? :innocent:

HSP ftw!

Halal snack pack?

I see HSP and that’s what I think  sorry, getting carried away.

XHP70 and 70.2 definitely exist, and they’d physically fit in the FT03, but the issue is that I believe they’re mostly 12v. There’s apparently 6v variants, though. Compared to the 50.2, it’s the same kind of “wall-of-light” profile, just bigger.

Thanks for your response!
Acronyms bring out the dyslectic in me. :stuck_out_tongue:

No worries! I always just imagine it’s “eXtra Heavy Photons”

Does the 50.2 have the same FET driver as the SST40 version?

Hey mate yea the same driver.

This XHP50.2 is a 3v variant.
