Not a fan of pineapple knurling in general. I agree the looks are fairly bland and generic. That’s not to say shove more fins and what not on it. Personally I think the Emisar D4S is a great example of simple, elegant and practical design.
SMO is my preference regardless of the emitter. I do have XHP50/70 lights that came with the OP reflector to smooth out the beam, but I couldn't stand them, and for which I could find an SMO reflector I've bought one and swapped it and the ones that I haven't found a SMO reflector for, are just sitting either collecting dust or in their boxes. I really don't like the smoothing out of the hot-spot one bit. I like a clean sharp hot-spot, even if it's not the best looking. At best I think I would take a hybrid reflector for such emitters, OP at the base and SMO at the top.
Where did the original images go? All I see now is the one you have labeled as the final design.
I have a feeling that there is something lacking in the final image. I can’t pin down exactly what makes me think this. Maybe the head profile making it look like a lollipop? Was the large knurling smooth or textured?
I’ll probably wind up with one anyway, as I like 21700 powered mid-lumen general purpose lights. I just wish the profile was straighter. Not necessarily BLF A6 style straight, but closer to the Convoy M3.
