Thanks pinkpanda3310 for posting this, you bring up some good points.
On a positive note, I did notice recently that the majority of the participants in a large thread completely ignored the provocative posts of an obvious troll. As a result, he seems to have backed off, because he wasn’t getting a reaction. That’s the way it should work.
It was never a firm rule based on “Rude” hits. Each case is different, but it usually has more to do with the number of times I’ve warned a user via PM, his/her reaction to my warnings, and his/her behavior from that point on. The Report button does continue to help me make more objective moderation decisions by taking into account how many other users also consider a user’s posts to be out of line. So sometimes a user gets more than three warnings, but others also get one or even no warnings, depending on the individual case.
