Thought I'd post a link to my own thread on this light, I don't think I'd seen this one when I started that but it's probably of interest to people following this thread; http://budgetlightforum.com/node/6861
Greetings all. Just signed up after lurking for an extended period. I couldn't resist what I was reading and picked up a TR-J12 from Deal Extreme. It only took a month to get here...
It's quite an impressive light. Makes my old SSC P7 look dim. I wanted to fact check a couple of details from the thread...
From what I understand, the light is the same brightness regardless of the number of batteries installed (two versus three) and the only difference is run time. Is that an accurate assessment?
I'm using a lot of 18650 cells scavenged from old laptop batteries. These are too short to operate unless I add a small magnet. As near as I can tell from the design, there should be no risk of short circuit from the magnet if it's installed between two batteries because of the plastic sleeve (or at the tailcap for that matter). Would that also be an accurate assessment?
From what I can tell with my eyes I can not tell the diffrence in brightness between 2 or 3 cells, but I have not tested this on a light meter.
Regarding magnets it shoul be ok if they are in the middle of the battery tube and not on the driver or tail cap side, my battery spacer is a tad short on the tail cap side and this could move back and forward inside the battery tube.

And certainly be fine if you're using the 18650's with the plastic spacer as it'd insulate the cell from the body of the light anyway!
I bought 3 of these from aliexpress back around Christmas and they came in about 2 weeks. Loved them! so I ordered qty 20 of these from linkdelight for $61.99ea w/ the 2 18650's the shipping came to only $22. I ordered these on Valentines day (2/14) and still haven't shipped. I contacted them many times just to get a tracking number and every time they tell me to wait 3 days and contact again if I haven't received. So on day 30 or at least (3/14) I opened a dispute with paypal. The next morning I check my email and paypal tells me i have a message from link delight in the resolution center. Linkdelight or (Ruby was her name) tells me that they need to confirm my shipping address! (This is 31 days after the order was payed for) So I log into linkdelight.com and look at my order info and my address is 100% correct. Why ask me 31 days later to confirm my shipping address. Still no refund or tracking number.

Did you order them two weeks ago after you received the other two or did you order them on 2/14? Your described chronology is not consistent.
Either way, I hope you get the product. What are you going to do with 20?

The first order was delivered to me about 2 weeks after placing the order from aliexpress. The second order was placed on february 14th 2012. I hope I get them as well or at least a refund. What am I going to do with them? I have a doctor buddy that wants 10 of them and some other friends that want some. The rest I will either sell or hold on to. Maybe give them as gifts.

So I took the torch to the beach and the glass caught some sand around the thread. To clean it you would have to open it up and upon opening it the glass and an o-ring fell out!
So my question is, does the o-ring belong in front of the glass or between the glass and the led?
I've tried both and when shaking it, I hear sounds like its unstable/glass moving. Is this normal? I'm not sure if it was like that before. Mind you I didn't tied it hard in the fear of damaging the thread or o-ring.
TR-J12 at the beach... sounds like you are already a flash addict :)
Lol. I just got the torch and was very careful with it. I covered it with bubble wrap to stop it from collecting sand but encounted strong winds so it didn't help.
My to do list now is to:
1. Upgrade the TR-J12 if possible
2. Fix my old 3D maglite (or mod it somehow)
3. Purchase a thrower! (<$90) - Any recommendations? lol
Has anyone tried this with AA rechargeable (Does it fit without mods)? Does it work?
I too have this question - it's what finally sold me on the 3T6, and it would probably be a dealbreaker for J12 (for me)....
OR RATHER, how low a voltage will the driver take and still turn on the light at a reasonable output?? Will the light fire on a single 18650/26650? (I read through a few pages in this thread but havn't see the "single cell" test mentioned anywhere - SURELY someone has done it....)
SkyRayCrap wouldn't fire at low voltages (protection/out of driver range, I don't remember).
Well I got my J12. But when I tried to screw extension tube on to the main tube the O-ring didn't fit properly and I kind of mangled it. It was really tight, even well lubed. Anyone else have this problem? And does anyone know where I can buy a properly sized replacement o-ring from?
anybody knows linkdelight?

I plan to lathe adapter for J12'head and DRY battery tube
Cause I prefer 3x18650 side by side and It's shorter.
keep us updated on that please! It will be interesting to see what you come up with

Hi,

Umm might common sense but I don't know. Lol.

In front of the glass
Thanks pok. There's still a bit of chattering coming from the glass when shaken but I can live with that as long as it still works.
Starting to become a flash addict. Looking forward in purchasing an UCL lens for this or any other accessories when available!

Bearing shops here in Australia are a good source of cheap o'rings.
