Medium sized throwers

Would the convoy L21 and M21 fit in this category of throwers.
I have a astrolux C8 XPL HI CW 1300 lumens as my only thrower and really like it but was looking for something with even more throw.

Yes, at least the L21A does, since its size it almost identical to the FT03, but with a smaller head.

Here is a side by side comparison both at max and distance to trees is 200m

Left FT03 right L21a

Nice both look great, I’m leaning towards the L21 because I prefer the 21700 tube, but my astrolux c8 threads are so sweet compared to my convoy lights it makes me wonder if I should get the astrolux anyway. My convoys are the cheaper ones, the s2+ and the s3.
When comparing a convoy c8 and astrolux c8 how do the threads compare?? My astrolux c8 has the smoothest threads of any light I’ve had. It’s the only c8 I’ve had though so maybe the convoy c8 threads are the same.

I am not familiar with the astrolux C8, but i prefer the rectangular shaped convoy threads, which are way more durable compared to the cheaper and thinner FT03 threads

You will not see much of a difference between your astrolux c8 vs the m21a.
The l21a is a much better choice. If you want a side switch, the ft03.

So the L21 it is so far, is there any other 21700 thrower out there?? Looking for a thrower that will give me noticeably more than my astrolux c8 which I love by the way.

The L21A comes with XHP35 also since last week, and might throw even better.
My FT03 fits an 21700 as well, but it’s a tight fit

Thanks for mentioning these lights. Looks like L21A is missing, I will add it soon.
As far as I can tell, M21A is just a C8 with 21700 tube, right? If that’s the case, it’s too small for inclusion.

VestureOfBlood posted an amazing video in this thread about the the Acebeam W30.

  • White laser
  • Pencil thin beam rated at 1.5 million candela
  • Small size, single cell, etc. all meet your spec.

Possible downside: little or no spill makes this a special purpose tool. One poster suggested that it may be ideal for certain boating and marine applications, such as spotting marker buoys at distance without generating huge reflections off the surface of the water.

I still don’t really know what to do about LEP throwers.
Some seem to clearly fit this thread but at the same time they are so different from LED ones that I feel they deserve a thread of their own….

Yes, same head and reflector.

You could always include LEP lights in this thread but place them in their own chart below the main one.

I miss the FT03 with XHP50.2 on the List.
Also would be nice if the available tints for each where listed, although it’s a lot of work and not really necessary.

Thanks for pointing this out, I just added it. I have a feeling there are more measurements to be found but I don’t have the time to do the search…

Thank you for this suggestion as well, though I think it would clutter the table.

Actually I’m thinking about what can I remove from the list to make the rows smaller…

You could combine empty/loaded weight into a single column.

Good idea. Will do it later.

My other thought would be to replace the ‘charger’ & ‘type’ columns with a ‘notes’ column. With most of the lights utilizing a reflector and no on board charging, that would be the default. Then you could add anything outside of that in the notes column (Onboard charging, aspheric lens etc).

I will think about it.
I did some formatting changes already, it’s a bit better.
I see that I forgot to add Convoy L21A - that’s TODO.
I added SBT-90 variant of NI40. This thing performs niiice.

I finally added Convoy L21A today.

Sofirn C8G ?

Hi Agro, appreciate your making this table (and also other comparison tables for flashlights which I noticed here in BLF).

Since the list is growing, would you happen to have a spreadsheet version of it online (so can be sorted by KCD, or lumens, or price, etc.)? Thanks!
