WTS/GB: [4000k ARRIVED, Test Report's In] GT-FC40 (a.k.a. XHP70's flattop, 12v 40w sister) 95 CRI, Available in 4000k, 5000k

I will update both lists equally.

One thing to note here is that BSM now dictates when to make bulk order.

Is this because of logistics or some other reason? If you are trying to procure good Chinese LEDs as a side gig you should try to take it on yourself and see how it goes. No issues with BlueSwordM but he is a busy person with lots of projects as it is.

This is a bit different.

The reason I want to partake in this GB is so that I can get some of these delicious FC40s LEDs myself.

It’s to justify a purchase. I have a light waiting for a high CRI mod.

I’ll be done with my SST-20 GB this Wednesday, so not a problem. Not too busy now that it’s almost finished, and I’m back to university, so way less work for me.

And yes, it’s because of logistics, and because I asked to help him out, since I knew it can be difficult to ship large quantities of orders.

Thanks for the clarification rngwn and BlueSwordM. These will be my first 12V emitters, since I skipped playing with XHP’s entirely because I simply haven’t found them interesting enough to be worth what it would cost. In the past, I’ve had 6V MT-G2 and some 9V COBs and 36V COBs and plenty of 3V LEDs of course. I also haven’t ever done anything with high CRI, or with lower CCT than 5000K. I’m looking forward to testing some of these, because they will be three ways different from my “norm”, plus they’re domeless.

I have an important update over the situation

I asked the manufacturer about the tint control. They said that they might not be able to control the tints well enough and can only guarantee <6 SDCM color matching.

6 SDCM technically confines within A4/A5 bin, but that itself is a rather large area so some of you might actually get fairly yellow ones. I asked them if they can group them, which they could. However, I must pay the labeling cost.

The binning will separate the LEDs with <4.5 SDCM from the ones outside. This extra label cost itself is pretty substantial and will render partnership with BSM no longer financially viable for either party, if I keep the price of the “best bin” at $11-$12

If I go through the binning process and sell this myself. I will send the better binned LEDs to the participants and may perhaps sell the rest for the cheaper price of $8.0 - 8.5 to cut loss.

I want to hear your thoughts on this. Whether 6 SDCM is acceptable for you or should I go through the binning process.

The company don’t want to do this, so let’s not.

If you’re willing to bin them and still sell them at $12 each, I can’t think of any downside for us. I would gladly pay less to get the “reject” binned LEDs, so others can get the better binned ones at “regular” price. :innocent:

The only downside is that I will need some people to buy off the rejects too or I lose money. Once binning is complete, I estimated there will be 20–40 rejects.

I want some reassurance that the rejects will sell at around $8.5.

I now created a list for people who are interested for a discount. If you are lucky, you will just get one with CCT shift and only mild tint shift.

Well, since I was going to spend $36 anyway for three of unknown bin originally, then I would be willing to get five of the rejects at $8.50 each for $42.50 at the discount rate if it happens. If you happen to get only 20% rejects, then my five would account for 20 of the better bin. If you can just get a couple more people to do that, you could still proceed with the purchase/sale right?

EDIT: To clarify, I mean to say that I will still buy three of them if you don’t bin them, and we pay $12 each, or I will buy five of the “rejects” if you do bin them, and I can get them for $8.50 each.

Update:

The manufacturer’s management has recently said they really don’t want to do this kind of grading even if I choose to pay extra.

I think it is best not to push them.

You still get A4/A5 bin as discussed earlier.

sounds like a deal killer

Anyway, in the light of how situation goes and now that the order is close to the original buying point 35+ pcs.

I want confirmation that the GB participant are a “firm” order.

I am interested in 2x A4 bin LED’s.

Hurry up!

I’ll take chosen ones.

Firm for me

Still in for 1x 4000K. Tbh it’s not surprising ordering such a small batch would not get you exact binning. I would just randomly ship them and charge everyone the same with the expectation it may not be exact tint but within a range. CRI should be consistent.

Next time just under promise from the start and over deliver

In any case, I will leave this on about 1-2 weeks before round up and order the 4000k (if it hits the threshold, that is). We’re back to the original deal where I promised the tint will land somewhere on the A4 bin.

I will work on 5mm leds in the meantime.

Edit: since Shirnask has dialed back the order amount, I guess we will have to wait.

I’m not sure if it will prove to be profitable for you in the end, but I sure appreciate your efforts getting chinese manufacturers make special high CRI leds and resell them on BLF. It is something that not many have a talent for, or the endurance to try or have the willingness to take the risks.
:+1:

To be fair, I still haven’t got to breakeven point for the previous COB purchases. I will need to be rather conservative when it comes to committing the order.

Any updates?
