Would be interesting to submit say a convoy S2 or an other reasonably priced tube light to the same test at the same time to have a baseline and validate the design choices.
I remember some years back at CPF people were suspecting a particular light with very thin walls would be fragile, someone torture tested it in like manner and it passed with flying colors.
Not much I can do about the host price. I am lucky Larry help with the drawings all for FREE. Otherwise I wouldn’t make a single dime on it if not acatully lose money. The light engine is where I am hoping to make the profit. However I will make them as affordable as I possible can especially the 12 LEDs one since that is one I want as many people to have. Just looking at it would be a joy. The good news is you only have to purchase the host once. It should last a lifetime and upgrades down the road wont be too pricey. Future lego parts are also in the planning to make the light suitable for even more audiences. Also if the light is made from 2011 we might be able to drop the price may be $50. If we go 6061 may be a bit more…But I suspect once we have 7075 in hand it might be worth it just to go all out with this metal. I cant wait to get my hands on it.
I ran over a light which I wont name and it didnt hold up the first run over asphalt with the truck. I decided not make a video on it as putting down another brand isn’t my intention. I am not trying to display what other brand lights cant do. I simply want to shows what mines can. Other brand lights will do many many things mine can’t. They night not pass all my 12 tests so far but they might pass other tests that are more crucial to the decision such as looks and functions that mine will not provide. As a light enthusiast, I honestly treasure and enjoy them all (except for *Fire clones). No point is putting down another to validate my design choices.
The toughest test was likely the “@ depth” and the “Drag It”. I suspect most of my other lights will not pass those tests. Yet, I know mines will not pass the tests that those lights will have for mine…
I watched all the tests and I was impressed. However, JamesB is right: how can I know if other lights would pass the same tests? Also Acebeam, Thrunite, Zebralight, etc. produce lights that seem very robust and resistant. Without the possibility of comparations I can only say that this light is really reliable and of excellent quality and that I would buy it without any doubts. But I cannot say with absolute certainty that it is better than the others lights. On the other hand, this was not Vinh’s intention.
I’m curious how the light engines connect to the host? Is it threaded in? Any pics? I hope the heat transfer will be much better than the P60 that has a big air gap between the pill and the host. Also any chance of copper pills for better heat transfer?
I will have details before launch but as you can see from my Heat Test 2 heat is transfer very well. Light heat up instantly & the readings climb instantly. This is also evident by the 4000L Quad White 2 LED set up indicating that there is very good electrical contacts as well. Multi emitter light engines are solid copper. 12LED light engine gets the most copper…
I don’t think this is 100% MADE IN USA!! I see other pictures of light and you used made in China parts
Not to mention you are using mtnelectronics as a supplier for this light and we all know that mtnelectonic is using made in China electronics!!
I think it’s better to buy Oveready Boss than this one because Oveready Boss is 100% made in USA and Russia and the quality of Oveready is above and beyond anything else in the market
not to mention you are going to ask ridiculous amount of money for it !!!!
It’s not worth it at all
Just think about it for a second if he takes 150-200$ for a light that cost 20$ shipped for just changing the led!!??
how much this one will cost and you know it’s not 100% made in USA
Almost nothing is 100% made in any single country these days. Even Chinese brands like Huawei and OnePlus have components from USA, Korea, Japan, UK, etc. Skylumen is a USA brand and this light is 100% USA design and almost entirely USA made with maybe a few parts from China and this to me makes it special enough. Also made in China does not mean it’s bad. Apple products are made in China yet it’s quality and reliability is second to none. Even Samsung and Sony can’t come close to Apple products in reliability. Some cheapo low tier Chinese manufacturers gives China manufacturing a bad rep but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Use a larger and more reputable shop in China and you get quality to match. Tim Cook said the reason Apple can’t move manufacturing away from China is the skill, precision, and quality of manufacturing China provides. So if the right parts and chosen whether it comes from the USA or China, and Vinh thoroughly tested it, I see no reason to doubt the quality of this light will be top notch.
I’m sure Oveready Boss is good quality but for about the same price, I rather get it from Vinh given the number of Skylumen lights I own and love. Also comparing this SLN to “likely” similar price lights from Oveready’s website, the SLN has more of what I want.
So your bent on truth in advertising ……Would you be happy with… 99% made in the USA (with limited imported components) 100% USA designed/assembled :+1:
I don’t understand I swear to god I don’t understand is it 99% of truth it’s truth???!!!!
Someone’s claiming that his flashlight is 100% made in the USA and NOT 99% and they will be asking for multiple hundreds of dollars for not even 60% made in the USA??!!
I pity Vinh in this regard, imagine he is just presenting/sharing his new flashlight ( and not even selling it a this time) and he gets comments like this, in his own thread at that!
Oh well, talk about not seeing yourself in the mirror! Perhaps he forgot that what’s good for the goose is also good for the gander.
